Well, most are not true deltas, and generate lift at low angles of attack from traiditonal aerofoils and ligfting bodies. Combined with FBW systems that allow them to run a delta wing sitting just on, or just behind centre of mass means they get essentially the best weight/drag you can manage

If you want a strike plane (rafale), or a lot of missiles without compromising A2A performance (typhoon) all that much, its the go-to config.

Part of the reason the chinese use it for their long-range carrying of anti-ship missiles (J-20)
Of course, now things are moving towards low-RCS design, its no longer as useful.

Eurofighter, Rafale and Gripen are 80s/90s air superiority designs, whem high maneuverability was important, and I guess delta shapes are the most maneuverable

      >and I guess delta shapes are the most maneuverable
True, but only if you end the fight on the first turn. After that, being a giant airbrake begins to cost you.

delta are pretty good if you need to put lots of weapons on the wings. the rafale has 14 hardpoints! the eurofighter has 13.

    compared to non delta aircrafts:

    >f-18 9 hardpoints
    >f-15 9 hardpoints
    >su-35 12 hardpoints
    >mig-35 9 hardpoints

also the bigger wing allows you to bring heavier and wider weaponry.

overall the design has alot of advantages for 4th gen multiroles, but, it's far inferior to any stealth design,

    also rafale ugly af ngl.

I'm not a fan of the eternal frog, but that's just cope. The Rafale is sexy af.

probably the best 4th gen multirole out there.

still aesthetically speaking is shit: the nose, weird angles on the wings, size, wienerpit, intake, the probe all look bad.
also i probably have some weird autism because my favourite aircraft to look at is the beluga

Not a fan of the French but it's easily the best looking fighter

We don't have that whole 'angles are the pathway of demons' thing that the far east does.

delta with canards is the most aerodynamically and structurally efficient layout there is.
because it's not a stable design and needs advanced fly-by-wire, it only got popular in 1980s.

5th gen fighters do not use this layout because it's hard to make it stealthy and stealth is now considered more important than maneuverability.

      >more important than maneuverability.
In recent years computational fluid dynamics leapt in capabilities, much of the lost maneuverability was regained be well placed vortex generators.

because delta wing is superior wing shape
