You'd think people who work in construction would understand that, over time, things wear down and break. That includes your body. The other day I was kneeling on a knee pad and a co-worker came up to me and said I was a homosexual for using one. He said sometimes his knees hurt when he kneels but he "sucks it up and doesn't whine like a b***h". People are truly fascinating.

It's not difficult to understand, we don't want to feel like we've been "missing out" or that we've been "wrong all this time". Why do you think autists online refuse to ever change their opinions on anything

I only wear knee pads because I don't like kneeling in water

I commend, and reccomend use of hearing protection to my workers.

my hearing loss (40%) was caused NOT by my construction carreer, and gun use.

mine was caused by motorcycling. over 500,000 miles ridden. I ALWAYS wore a helmet, but did not know I also needed to wear ear plugs.

it wasn't some obnoxious, straight-pipe Harley, either. it was an ADV bike with stock a muffler.

Do you wear hearing aids? My decibel thresholds are 60ish at speech frequency and I'm debating getting a pair but holy frick they are expensive

        Anonymous

        >expensive

I do not have hearing aids. mostly because they are between $5000 to $8000 dollars for the quality, high tech variety I would want... but, also because I still feel "too young" to be wearing them, just yet.

mostly it's the expense part, though. I have decent medical insurance, but it will not cover anything for hearing aids.

i never had any problems with noise levels during rides. but this could be due to newer helmets, closed visor or that i didn't ride long enough yet

It's not the engine or a loud exhaust, its the wind noise caused by the air going around the helmet that causes hearing damage. Doing 60 the noise in the helmet can be 90 to 100db.

you as a zoomer have in general poor situational awarness and short attention span, you basicly walk around in your own little bubble barely able to react to your surroundings. now add "hearing protection" (lol there is no protection in it you blast music on your airpods so loud you already have irreversible damage) that only enclose you even more inside your own bubble. you become a complete nightmare to be around.
its not just that we need to be able to communicate with you but its a serious health and safety issue, people could shout at you to move and you dont hear it and get smashed by falling shit and your hearing will be like that of metal drumners after 2 years.
its a reason many large construction companies here has a strict policy for no music and mandatory electronic noise cancelling on hearing protection, meaning you still hear normal speak.
t.boomer with full score on my hearing except a dip at certain frequency on my right ear from having a G3 magdumped 3cm from it during military

        >poor situational awarness, short attention span, dont hear whats said
yeah, its a certain type of people that manage to stop dead in their tracks behind a reversing wheel loader completely unaware of whats going on and not able to hear neither the beep-beep-beep alarm or 5 guys shouting at him to move. lets just assign them all a deaf boomer to be their ears and eyes. hearing protection in itself isnt bad, but show me one dude below 25 who doesnt use it to blast music and enclose himself deeper into his own bubble or keep them on all day even when noise is low and people are talking
        >huh?
        >did you say something??
i swear one day i will shoot a kid who say these words.

Putting ear plugs in and taking them out constantly is a pain in the ass especially if you work with shit that isn't super clean, oil/grease/dust on your shit is not fun and makes them not work as well

            Anonymous

Christmas tree buds man, they are brilliant, you can adjust how deep/effective they are without taking them out, you don't touch the bit that goes in your ear, they fit under muffs for loud as frick situations and are washable.

              also i keep them everywhere,
in the car, the shed the toolbox the garage so i always have earplugs ready when i need them.

This is accurate. Add a vape to the situation and good fricking god these kids are a menace to society.

Is this a bait/trolling thing, or are you actually blaming your unsafe workplace on people trying not to go deaf and end up those old homosexuals that scream at people and then accuse them of mumbling because a normal speaking tone is inaudible to geriatric ears? Ideally it should be like a fricking helicopter's earpro system where there's an integrated radio so discourse can be had through that.

zoomers get deaf as well, BL speakers have gotten loud as frick.

also music gets loudness compressed now, meaning the music is always loud, this worsens the hearing (temporarily) and people turn up the music even more,

at most party's music stars out in a acepticle loudness and over the evening it gets painfully loud.

My boss used to say IT WAS A SAFETY HAZARD IS SOMEONE ON SITE COULDN'T HEAR EVERYONE ELSE because they'd get hit by things and the loss of hearing was a trivial SIDE EFFECT OF BEING A BUILDER, my boss used to be in the army and was TOTALLY DEAF IN ONE EAR SO you had to yell at him but if he was facing the other way HE WOULD BE ANGRY AND TELL YOU THAT HE WASN'T FRICKING DEAF.

Now i have tinnitus as a constant companion, like faust its a deal with the devil
