When I showed my Boomer Nam vet uncle my AK for the first time he told me that the reason it was a better gun than the M14 was because "it could shoot our rounds too"
I dont think he knew 7.62x39 and 7.62x51 were different rounds
Vietnam vets got a fricking comic book in terms of how to maintain and take care of their rifle as well as its specs. I'm not bullshitting you, look it up.
the svd was built from the ground up to be a DMR, the m14 was built as a battle rifle. the only similarity is the DOD of both country then trying to use the rifles for roles they were not meant to like with the soviets trying to make a DMR into a sniper rifle (lol 2MOA "sniper rifle) and the US to make a battle rifle into a DMR. (lol ebr)
Boomers love World War II and israelites.
Those are their Genesis story and Jesus, respectively.
The M14 was designed to use the same tooling as used for building M1 Garands, and the ordinance department stopped early NATO from adopting the intermediate-caliber .222 British version of the FAL by saying that round was too small. Boomers love when their military rifles are also suitable for elk or whatever.
So maybe they see it as somehow part of World War II roots but modern enough to not be relegated to clips. Also, wood.
I FRICKING HATE YOU BONG WORSHIPING moronS SO MUCH IT'S UNREAL
.280 BRITISH WAS ONLY MARGINALLY SMALLER AND LIGHTER THAN .308 AND HAD MUCH WORSE PERFORMANCE
THE ROUND WAS A FRICKED UP AWKWARD MIDDLE GROUND WITH NO FUTURE
The m14 is so fricking cool my guy. No it's not the most accurate, lightest or reliable. But no one cares because is so rad. All these chuds that argue about which battle rifle is best don't get the point.
M14 is like large breasted blonde. Not the smartest and probably can't run very fast with those things flopping around. But goddamn those tiddies.
this posts reeks of an arfcom signature spanning 3 paragraphs, 2 tinyurl links to pictures and or a list of your cars/ham radios and guns and 2 mentions of how much you dislike your wife through inappropriate humor

I will never stop seething over how it only held 8 rounds in that game mode. they should have just put the sks in like they did for the mobile version. and the olympia should have been 200 points like the K98k was in WaW
Because it is the final boss of ban state guns and that's the best thing they can get.

GOBBLESS!! TRUE AMERICAN PATRIOTS!
>m14
sounds great on paper, sucks dog balls to use in real life
>boomers
will never use it in real life, therefore only care about how it sounds on paper
>will never use it in real life
That's what we carried in 'Nam, sonny. We would have beat dem commies too if them corrupt politicians in DC didn't insist on that plastic hunk of junk.
>Because it is the final boss of ban state guns and that's the best thing they can get.
funnily enough maryland banned the M1A, BM59, and a bunch of other cold war battle rifles but the scar 17 and ar10 are perfectly legal
pretty accurate >designed off a weapon foreign origin >Ineffective compared to other weapons of its class >beloved by boomers and /k/lets >finnicky >shoddy construction >used even after rendered obselete
My recently deceased neighbor was a Navy and Marine vet who loved the M14. But he was also a 6 foot whatever frick mountain of a man so to him it's issues with weight and recoil probably weren't much of a factor. Seeing a picture of him in the service with an M16, it really does look like a children's toy.
You have to remember that boomers almost never shot guns.
They were in this weird transition zone where people didn't hunt much any more, but recreational shooting hadn't really caught on yet. So they got magazines that said the M14 was a frickin badass gun used by badasses in the military so they bought one, but never actually fired it. There was like 1 range per state back in the boomer heyday and it was in some state park no one knew where.
Now you got ranges all over the place and recreational shooting or competition is big. We play video games or watch youtube to tell us what guns are great, but the big difference is we might actually fire them and find out for real. Of course instead of admitting we made a bad choice we usually just get mad and argue online, but at least we know.
My Dad used it in Vietnam. Says is't the best rifle ever made. Marines got to choose whatever weapon they wanted once they became E-5 in rank. He chose it over the M16 & BAR. He owns two of them now & can consistently hit a target 500 yards right on the bullseye. Old man strength is a thing, but old man marksman strength is a thing too.
Basically it's an M1 Garand but better. Yet it was late and firearms design had improved in ways where it was outclassed in many regards by the competition. These days there is a highly vocal crop of morons out there who hate the M14 with such a passion because their boomer uncles treated it like some mythical weapon crafted by God himself. But they are just-as if not more annoying than said boomer uncles.
Because it's the rifle of Their Generation. The M14 came out after WW2 so most Boomers grew up thinking of the M14 as THE military rifle. Because of that, the M16 is remembered as being less reliable and less powerful than the M14 and by the time the M16 was fully accepted most boomers were stuck in their ways.
Same reason zoomers go crazy of this >muh armor piercing >muh full size cartridge >muh who cares about capacity of weight
Time is a flat circle and Nietzsche was right about eternal return but in the shittiest possible way
I was curious about them and got the tanker as a brush gun, was a lot of fun to shoot and had recoil similar to if not a little less than an AKM, very pleasant. Ended up trading it for a compact AR10 which was better for my needs. One thing I didn’t like was how close the op rod is to a comfortable grip, seems like it could really frick your fingers up if you weren’t mindful of it.
My friend used to have an M1A. Very accurate, recoiled like an AK like said, in general really nice to shoot. Apparently a pain in the ass to clean though. As someone who didn't have to clean it, I can see why boomers like it. >t. millennial
>virgin trying to sound like a blue collared folksy bar regular
I just think they’re neat. Spent my earlier gun collecting years buying AR’s. This is like stepping back in time when shooting it. But then my next two guns I got were ruger Blackhawk and a coach gun. Maybe I’m just entering my fudd stage.
1)Battle rifles are fun
2)It can be a nice marksman rifle if you know what you're doing
3)nobody is expecting to clear an apartment building with one
4)it looks rad
5)YWNGIAFF (You Will Never Get In A FireFight)
Garand could have had magazines, but they fell for the 'they'll waste ammo' bullshit. It was wish fulfillment for Ordinance Fudds, and self-interest in domestic production of native design against the otherwise superior functionality of FAL (in British .280), delaying the inevitable facing 30 rounds of .30 Soviet in Vietnam Jungles-- time's a flat circle, and here we are going back to the future with .277 [i.e. like .276 Pederson] which would've been obviated in the first place by seditious Fuddery of small arms world-historic magnitude if it had never been forced through in the first place, to the gain of strategically significant savings in human/capital development & deployment costs over and against 556/AR & .308.
you tell me, the boomers I know rant about how it sucks compared to the original.
When I showed my Boomer Nam vet uncle my AK for the first time he told me that the reason it was a better gun than the M14 was because "it could shoot our rounds too"

its incredible to me how stupid and firearms illiterate old guys who served are
what the frick was taught in basic training before 1990s
People are stupid. This is a fundamental rule you need to learn. It applies to everyone, including you in the right circumstances.
>what the frick was taught in basic training before 1990s
I imagine it was just lots of incredibly gay hazing
As opposed to all the current gay indoctrination?
Vietnam vets got a fricking comic book in terms of how to maintain and take care of their rifle as well as its specs. I'm not bullshitting you, look it up.
Half the time I hear old guys talking about ammo I'm amazed they haven't managed to blow their faces off yet.
It's cool.
Its the american SVD

no wonder boomers loved it
It's none of those things. You sound like a weak b***h.
Why do yoomers go crazy over it?
Cawwadoodie
I prefer Armalite sr
How did they carry their rifles with such short slings?

Best rifle
Idk but which one of you shitasses is in the Thompson thread trying to say the M14 was better for jungle warfare than a submachinegun
Literal zoomer cooe thread.
Meds
Yes, the zoomers seething about the M14 should take them.
There are obviously better options available now...but its kind of like a 1911, its just works and I'm not gonna ever say no.

I want the non-boomer version of the boomer gun.

It's in three oh hate, and can be used as a club.

What exactly was the benefit of the M14 over the M1, anyway? Just the box magazine?
It combines the BAR and M1 so you don't need to worry about separate logistics for both. Now the average rifleman can be a BAR gunner in a pinch.
