Why are RC cars so fricking expensive? Pic related is 4wd, powerful, carries 20kg load and is around $105 USD on AliExpress. You could put a cheap body on it to give it a "RC car" look. But the same level of power hobby RC car would probably cost you like $1,200. I was shocked when I saw the prices of RC cars compared to robot car platforms. What gives?
AliExpress
>chang quality
>probably controlled by WIFI so short range
>hard to get replacement parts
RC
>high quality
>VHF radios for good range
>tons of replacement and upgrade parts from any good hobby shop or online
tldr: yi fen qian yi fen huo
Radio control vs. wifi doesn't justify the price difference
it does a little, rc rf isn't like your daddies shit buggy from 20 years ago. Much more robust and reliable these days.
AliExpress
>chang quality
>controlled by whatever you buy
>tons of replacement and upgrade parts since it's all the same shit
RC
>chang quality with bare minimum quality control
>now it went through 5 distributors that each added 50% to the price
>controlled by whatever you buy
>tons of replacement and upgrade parts from any good hobby shop or online at a 1000% markup for stocking niche parts
tl;dr israelites
End goal matters. Are you trying to make a robot or a racing car or scale model? AliExpress is fine for a robot but you're never gonna win a race or make a really nice model with it.
does it go 50mph and will it survive doing a dozen cartwheels down a hill after a failed jump?
Expensive means high quality, its illegal to sell bad things at high prices so the ali express things have to be bad
>scooter driver doesn't get splattered
>driver gets safely evacuated from the cabin
>no fireball
Is this bizarro china?
When rare disasters become common, the next rarity on the list is disasters ending up in a miraculous way
>why is an entirely hobby driven indulgence that doesn't piggyback off of too much expensive
RC cars
>made to go fast or tread on impervious terrain
>hydraulic suspension
>steering
>complete 4WD differentials and transmission
>can't carry loads
Robot platform
>couple of gearbox bolted to a sheet metal enclosure
>slow
>tank steering
>can carry loads
Expect the price of these to skyrocket.
would be scarier on an actual RC car doing 50+ mph
LOL an analog version of this exists since forever
they hung a string to the board and pulled it from a trench
Saw something similar on /k/. It was used to great effect by, possibly scandi, autists, in a wargame.
another ask a dumb question and then answer it in your OP.
not enough volume to have low price.
like those road bicycles only dork rides compared to motorcycles.
