You vastly overestimate the potential destructiveness of nuclear reactors. Its not like there's secretly a cluster of tsar bombs at the centre of them or something.

I suspect that at least one US contingency in the event of the Russians using nuclear weapons against Ukraine would be nuclear sharing (i.e. providing the Ukrainians with a nuclear weapon and having their own Air Force conduct the retaliatory strike instead of the USAF) similar to the agreements we already have with Turkey, Germany, and Belgium. They'll be getting F-16s this year so they'll already have the delivery system.
