It's just that plumbers get to tackle all sorts of different problems small and large, while electricians do mostly the same routine of pulling cable, sizing a breaker and terminating connections until you get into engineering and design. A plumber might get called to implement an industrial process, a microbrewery, a distillery... Pipes for molten plastic, acids, high temperature gasses...
Unless you're in the 1% who does not do commercial or light to medium residential, you're pulling cable and sizing breakers all day long. The most you'll do is install switchgear in a large condo building. Day in, day out.
I do anything from milli-volts to lightning bolts. Currently installing and commissioning energy management systems in large commercial and industrial environments. You?

You're one of the few actually competent electricians out there. The vast majority are in resi or light commercial and have never touched medium voltage.
Energy management is cool as frick. What vendor?

so glad i came into this thread, i love that picture, it's going into the dream house folder. merry christmas one and all!
Can confirm, Im a pipefiter and kinda welder and im a massive autist. Also pipefitting is way more fun. unless you want to spend your days tightening little gay screws and pulling wire for hours go for plumbing.
What part of the country are you in if US? Obviously you aren’t in a union, so in that case if you aren’t changing companies every 2-3 years you’re missing out on the biggest raises you can expect to ever get. Your boss might even like you enough to match or exceed the raise, just make sure the offer is in writing before you threaten to leave.
If you aren’t in the deep south you either can’t negotiate for yourself worth shit, aren’t that good, or are less than 3 years in the trade and think hacking in a furnace swap out is having experience. I’m not even in a union and will say 100% join the UA if that’s at all an option for you. Scab hvac companies have fricking shit benefits.
Beware anyone planning on entering HVACR field: you will be expected to participate in an on call rotation at most companies regardless of being an installer/service man or commercial/residential. This is usually not negotiable until you are a HIGH up manager or off the tools in sales or something. No matter what commission/overtime/whatever scheme they pitch to you that makes on call seem like a boon, you WILL get fricking sick of it pretty fast. This will totally frick around your marriage or relationship with child/friends/leading a normal life. Just sayin.
anything thats not residential. frick working at peoples homes.
as a fellow sperg this is the best part of my job. you get calls in the middle of the night, drive to bumfrick nowhere, stay the night alone in some basement machine room fiddling with stuff all alone, get it done, drive home, get paid.
we dont do these calls on residential, even if they insist. we know they wont pay up and only complain, claiming its warranty etc. industry and commercial its never an issue.
>HVAC as well. respectable >respectable
lol, you wish. Most people think you're scummy, scammy trash
But it's true that you sit higher on the totem pole than truck drivers and drywall guys lmao
That’s doing residential trade work in a nutshell. Being a motivated residential hvac service tech at a flat rate/sales driven company will net you more money than doing residential plumbing/electrical any day though. You can even do it without being morally corrupt.
An electrician sucked my wiener once. Told him me and my roofer buddies would rob and rape him after finding out he sexually messaged a minor online. He gave in and agreed to suck me off...multiple times that year. Guy was a great wienersucker too and said he was straight. Electricians should also have their mouths used as load dumpers on job sites....when they arent running cable. Guy had a family too and I told him to think about them as he sucked my sac. homosexual electricians lol
Maintenance electrician here, ask me anything. Been doing manufacturing and automation for about ten years now. Haven't bent pipe or pulled wire in about 10 months(learn 2 plc fgts). $44/hr in florida btw. Am union but not ibew because I'm not GAY.
How do I start from zero to where you're at or work in industrial? I'm applying for an apprenticeship, but if I don't get it, will just go to school full time and apply for union work afterwards. Already got a college degree that I can't use
You need to slave away for a few years. Get on as a helper with any electrical contractor. Learn the basics. Teach yourself shit in your free time. After doing that for a while, start applying for maintenance electrician jobs wherever you see them. Some places, you'll never touch plc's because they've got dedicated controls guys doing that. Might be a good thing, you'll get to learn and excel at the industrial side of things. Whatever you do, don't spend your whole life wiring up houses unless you start your own company.
I'll try this. My resume has mostly short term office work that's not relevant to technical hands on skills. A lot of these helper or service tech roles have requirements that I meet, but I think they get turned off by how different my experience to the line of work
How should I show employers that I'm willing to work and not get ghosted after applying?
>Only mention relevant experience.
I have none. Again, all work experience is white collar.
US
Show up in a pair of steel toed work boots and a collared shirt. That'll put you miles above 90 percent of applicants. Do you have tools? Just basic shit, don't buy anything expensive.

What part of the US is a big deal, especially if you want industrial. Best places for union are the big blue cities. NYC, boston, Chicago, LA. But I know up here in boston they're infected with the dei shit trying to get girls and Black folk in. Only real free ride is if you're a vet, through helmets to hard hats. Otherwise I would suggest you start frequenting bars where the journeymen drink, you went through college so you should have some normal social skills. If you can befriend some guys who are in and ask them to vouch for you, you'll be all set. The unions are gangs, it's all about who you know.

Might be wrong on this but being an electrician may be easier. If you're an American it's not the case but if you're a Britbong and you're a plumber, you'll not just have to learn plumbing but also gas engineering, a good deal of HVAC and also a fair bit of electrical for wiring heating systems, and some carpentry for fitting boilers and stuff.
Also obviously being a plumber you'll have to deal with worse working conditions, on your knees in tight spaces for what could be an hour or hours, installing boilers outside in the rain, filthy water and oil and sand and cement all over your hands, yada yada.
Only problem with getting into being an electrician is the barrier of entry since every lad interested in trade wants to be an electrician so you'll have a greater deal of competition trying to get an apprenticeship.
Lol, limey tradesmen are dumb cucks, no one gives a shit about underpaid morons who find 16ths and fractions incomprehensible. Go stack bricks.
Op, you'll be fine with either one, both trades are full of antisocial morons like yourself. Plumbers are a bit dumber and meaner, and the sparkies are a bit softer more autistic. Either one you'll be fine.
Both professions have you working with smelly turds, as a plumber at least you can flush them away and don't have to meet them again and again and again until you reconsider and change profession.
electrical, it's easier than plumbing and requires a bit more maths and spergy knowledge about the magic blue smoke and angry pixies.
t. electronic engineer who also did plumbing
Plumbing, unless you can get into big industrial electrical projects.
This tbh, pipe fitter welders especially tend to be massive autists

Thirded Pipefitter/Welder autistic king of the trades.
you might consider HVAC as well. respectable, important, and good income potential.
i make 21 dollars an hour as an experienced installer, not great dude.

i am currently doing a re-education as an electronic engineer and most people in that field are autistic as frick, very sperg friendly environment
Electricians are the laughing stock of the trades. Look how they are built.
An electrician sucked my wiener once. Told him me and my roofer buddies would rob and rape him after finding out he sexually messaged a minor online. It is surprising how many older tradesmen will unironically show you troony porn
Sorry what the frick? Stories?
that literally never happened you weirdo

Frick you my uncle was in IBEW
I'm sorry you have a gay uncle
He was married to a woman though, and he liked Linkin Park
>being married in 2023
>liking Linkin park
Again, I'm sorry you're uncle is gay
You're gay if you think Linkin Park isn't the ultimate straight man's band.
AV chad here, the rest of you guys are underpaid homosexuals
Based. I did this for a while, electrician money or more with no licensing required. Shits all braindead easy too

Plumbing is vast. Thiers service and construction. Electricians have service calls put non compared to plumbs.
Every electrician ive med is an asocial aspie with some sort of passive aggressive insecurity complex.
Now usually plumbing has more work but is way more physical and you can be a boiler tec, construction work in shipyards or pipeline its pretty vast.
electrical, it's easier than plumbing and requires a bit more maths and spergy knowledge about the magic blue smoke and angry pixies.
t. electronic engineer who also did plumbing
Which field is more saturated? Electrical or plumbing?
>zapped
>shidded
Some choice
what about driving one of these?
