Hitler's generals and industry leaders contradicted him all the time.
The whole reason why the long 50mm gun wasn't the standard armament of panzers before the French campaign already was because his generals and engineers just ignored him after telling him it'simpossible (it wasn't). It took 2 years and him getting oissed at 2 different birthday parades to do something about it but it still only happened after barbarossa had already started it.

Also since people due to corruption were encouraged to over-report how much grain they were producing, China thought it had WAY more grain that it actually did and then exported a giant chunk of it to the Soviets. right before the famine kicked in.

Mao was a massive moron that helped to make a famine even worse by ordering the death of all sparrows and other animals that he saw as eating the crops, completely forgetting that said animals serve a extremally important purpose of keeping insect population down. Queue biblical-level locust infestation in all of China's crops causing hundreds of millions of deaths due to famine. It is the reason why China did a hard u-turn after Mao's death into the current system it is today

            Anonymous

the issue with chickens is that they ruin the ground by picking it apart. Ducks are a lot better for pest removal if you have a field/garden where you grow stuff in.

              Anonymous

this, a sufficient number of chickens in a restricted area will strip the ground bare and exterminate seedlings within weeks

this is especially true if they have no way to eat tree leaves, such as from a covered enclosure or from clipped wings, because it spares the ground cover a little and they're less likely to rip up the ground looking for bugs because they can pick them out of the trees

Ducks also consume snails and slugs

            Anonymous

It's not so much 'organised' as just looking that way. What you've got there is a large group of ducks following each other, with the one at the front just kind of walking whichever way seems best. There's no coordination, or planning, involved. I don't see why chickens couldn't do it, but the closest I've seen to that would be something like the link at the bottom, which is just a lot of them running towards food at the same time

            Anonymous

Ducks don't scratch. They just consume the insects and top of crops, which means the roots tend to be fine.
They also actively eat snails, slugs and so forth while chickens will avoid them like the plague.

    >Sparrows were suspected of consuming approximately 2 kg (4 pounds) of grain per sparrow per year.[3] Sparrow nests were destroyed, eggs were broken, and chicks were killed. Millions of people organized into groups, and hit noisy pots and pans to prevent sparrows from resting in their nests, with the goal of causing them to drop dead from exhaustion.[3][4] In addition to these tactics, citizens also simply shot the birds down from the sky.[5] The campaign depleted the sparrow population, pushing it to near extinction within China.[5]
    >Some sparrows found a refuge in the extraterritorial premises of various diplomatic missions in China. The personnel of the Polish embassy in Beijing denied the Chinese request of entering the premises of the embassy to scare away the sparrows who were hiding there and as a result the embassy was surrounded by people with drums. After two days of constant drumming, the Poles had to use shovels to clear the embassy of dead sparrows.[6]
