Apparently the Russian commanders were skeptical of their regular forces’ combat abilities and tried to use special forces guys to fill line infantry roles. The result was they were chewed up by Ukrainian artillery and small arms fire. Now there’s a lack of Russian SF operating in Ukraine because it takes years of training to replace these guys.
