You're not going to do any of that. You're going to panic when you realize you decided to do anything too late because the decline was gradual and slow and by the time you're considering leaving seriously, it will be difficult because of a combination of controls on movement, your property being requisitioned by the government (because you were dumb enough to post about it online and might even pay property taxes like an absolute moron), and other people with the same delusion squatting there, who will kill you if you show up. You won't know if those stories are true, but they'll be used as a justification to keep you living where you are.
Instead of "bugging out", when somebody knocks on the door and hands you your ration booklet, you'll let the cops (who look pretty well-fed) push past you and search your place. They'll break some of your stuff searching for contraband, which you will surrender without a fight. You might feel brave and say something under your breath which will get you sucked punched, knocking out a tooth there's no dental care available to fix anymore.
You'll send 6-8 hours standing in a line to collect your rations once a week and sometimes nothing will be left. A woman will exchange sex for some of your stuff, and you'll get robbed while it's happening. After that you'll either accept your fate as an open-air prisoner or have a nice day. I don't care which you choose.

I can see it now. Feds trying to go to every backwater hole, 60 miles from the nearest hospital stretched way to thin. A 4 man team of undertrained fed gays against billy bob and cletus who have been waiting their whole lives for this moment. They would get picked off before they made it half way up the driveway.
