What's up with national forest not allowing 4x4s?

Everywhere around North Central Idaho is ATV only. Got told by a professor at WSU that its because of "foliage and trees. Places like Moab dont have much of that". Thoughts???

Generally 4x4 community have been known for not respecting nature. They have the tools to bring far more people and rubbish into nice areas.

May not be everyone, i have a 4x4 and i would love to drive through national parks.

While that is true, having 4x4 trails means a lot for fire and SAR response times. Having breaks in canopy and ground cover can help slow fire.
To counter the shit heads. Put game cameras up in trees along the paths of concern. Be smart and get light sensitive ones that don't beam out a few watts of IR light. Bubba has a handheld monocular without an IR filter for deer poaching.
Also, I can get a truck into a lot of places no one has been into for years. With an ATV? I got a lot less shit to cut out of my way. With what I could carry on an ATV? Not all that much less equipped than if I loaded down a Jeep.

You absolutely can bring a 4x4 into a national forest, just not in designated ATV trails. Get a motor vehicle use map to see which roads are open and when.
    >why can’t I go down the ATV trails.
Because you’re 12,000lb diesel dually on 44” SuperSwamper Boggers will tear everything up.

That feeling when my street legal 4x4 is smaller than a lot of the side by sides on the market these days that are perfectly legal on those trails.

What street legal 4x4? Because a Tracker/Vitara or a imported Kei truck is not a OHV. The forest cops will frick you if they catch you.

I know, that was my point. Vehicle in my image is legal according to those forest cops, but it is physically larger than my Suzuki Samurai (which is a Kei car). OHV vehicles are becoming behemoths.

They're big but they're still over 1000lbs lighter than a Vitara.

Only 400lbs lighter than a Samurai.

admit it, you'd be more comfortable in a 40$ a night developed campsite where you can drink budweiser with the guy 10 feet away in his winebago
        thats where you belong

            >I'm such an avid outsoorsman I have to take a futuristic motorized metal platform loaded down with all my shit I don't need into the woods on carefully kept paths, and where there are no paths I will make one with my giant knobby tires with thousands of pounds of weight bearing down on them into the soft, fluffy soil which otherwise might have grown wildflowers or edible plants, but now it's a sloppy compacted rut with big nasty tire tread patterns that could be seen by ray charles.

Just admit that you're too fat and weak to handle walking further than the Wally world checkout line.

You can't hack it PrepHole so you have to bring your house with you. Don't forget your helmet moron.

Use avenza and double check, usually it's due to maintenance or lack there of, usually atv gays will groom, pit and frick a trail so vehicles can never get through unless very small

Colorado had a bit of this problem but most trails were good

4x4 overland SxS jeep whatever guys are universally the most hated in the dirt community, then ATVs are next. They rut and unnecessarily widen trails, create traffic, leave shitloads of garbage and are usually terrible operators which cause a danger to others trying to use OHV spaces. There are endless amounts of legal dirt bike single track trails all throughout the national forests where i live which are usually maintained by local moto clubs or random guys who have respect for the next people who want to use it

They get stuck and spin their tires on every obstacle. Go out during or literally right after a rain and frick up service roads. Oh I wanna get a cool pic for the gram better pull in to a field of wildflowers!

I swear that for how insufferable cyclists are on the whole, dirt bikers are the only ones with any sense.

We really try in my area. There’s a belief that our bike registration buys nothing but barbed wire so whatever land we have left we have to gate keep. Teach all the young bucks and the ignorant how important trail conservation is. You have to be an absolute butthole to some people to guarantee even a sliver of public land usage for future generations
