Some of the decade old ones were actually good. Or at least the ones that are still selling. Outdated hardware, but reliable. Comfy keyboards.
With the newer ones it can be hard to tell. It could be a well-engineered, reliable machine. Or a pile of whatever random junk they could get to the chinashit factory within the production schedule. This is how you kill a brand.
buck 110, rat 1, k55k, spyderco delica/endura, cs recon 1 are all pretty well down among guys that know knives, are all affordable, and offer good value. benchmade isn't cheap, has spotty qc, and haven't done much for the industry (in fact they dragged it back by selling griptilians in 154cm for s30v prices while justifying it with lifetime bench grinder sharpening, and fricking over doug ritter).
recent chinese brands don't have the reputation in the knife world that thinkpads do in the computer world, but they've gotten pretty good. there are more than a few kizer/civivi/cjrb/whatever models that are excellent value with great qc.
Try searching for something that's cheap, durable, and just works.
i don't know shit about knives, anon.
$15 or less folder from a hardware store, preferably stolen
since when are thinkpads cheap? a decade old used ones still cost 200 bucks on ebay.
