The flare keeps you from inserting too deep and gives you something to hold on to when you pull the mag back out.

engineer here, it's because the flared magwell. without that fillet feature, it would be razor sharp and paper thin on the edge.

      any other suggestion is moronic.

this part does not index the mag
you cannot simultaneously remove the mag and hold the receiver

same reason barrels have those rings on them
      it adds strength

the only strength increase would be from reducing the stress concentrations on the sharp corners and finer radii

so you're saying it WOULD add strength

that's not why barrels have rings, it's to prevent them from swelling. they have a hydrostatic pressure from the weight of the fluid they hold

      >>The flare keeps you from inserting too deep and gives you something to hold on to when you pull

Jesus, you horsefrickers have to make everything about your fetish, don't you? You can't even reply to a thread about ARs without talking about thick, meaty wieners with flared heads, all musky and throbbing, just begging for attention. You people are sick, what with your obsession with horses and their perfect, sexy phalluses that make you want to get on your knees like a good girl and worship every inch with your tongue. Absolutely disgusting.

it's the flare at the base that they're talking about, it's a structural feature of the toys

Looks like a piece of tape or a weird paintjob is covering the upper half of the lower

the frick do you mean the upper half of the lower? that seam there is the seam between the upper receiver and lower receiver. why are you posting on /k/ when you don't even know how AR15 receivers go together?

        [...]
        Colt Lower, random upper

manufacturers don't split the rollmark between both receivers and you can see that everything is tilted, have you never seen an AR15 from the left side before?

        >Colt Lower, random upper
        No. The lower was shopped.
The prancing pony is fully visibile on a proper Colt lower, as is the roll mark for who/where the lower was made.
        tl;dr: it's a shop

It's not fricking shopped, you utter goondick. It's a blem lower mated with another upper.

Because some /k/uck wanted to have a Colt lower but coundt afford a proper one so he saved a buck and bought a blemished one.

You're a homosexual JEET it's a shop-cope made by BLM trannies who spend $3000 on a QC rejected, non-milspec DOGSHIT POOP "rifles" from DD(demonic), BLM, KCI.

Nucolt. Every time I comment about their shit quality on gun forums, boomers always come in on droves to tell me how wrong I am and they're still as good as ever

They really haven't got a reason to keep QC up if DD does the contracts now.

But they have contracts now, and their QC is probably the best in the Industry, Get with the times grandpa.

Is that not a lower that's been cut and rewelded? Because seriously...

I've seen a new colt barrel come in to my local gun store, new from brownells, that had the barrel extension pressed in backwards and crooked, and the muzzle threads cut crooked. I've never seen anything like it. I would 100% use a Del-Ton or Doublestar rifle before a newly made Colt rifle today.

I bought a Doublestar in 2012 and I think this is the first time I've ever heard anyone mention them since. It's just a basic b***h M4gery but with a heavier barrel, but it's been fine

To strengthen the bottom edge of the magwell, which would otherwise be the weakest part of the lower in lateral compression.

The mag well? It's so you don't have to load stripper clips into an internal magazine. I fully understand why people thought mass conscripts would be too stupid to actually lose magazines and used internal magazines with strippers instead, weren't competent enough to load them and not lose them. One time I ran a firing course and I was dropping magazines everywhere. You don't think mags would fall out of a pocket you got for them but if you don't button a thing closed, or use a elastic band to keep them in there you dolphin dive one fricking time and you're trying to pick up 3 of the fricking things it's horribly embarrassing. No matter how much you think you can walk around upright and not lose a magazine try fricking crouching and diving or jogging around obstacles they're going to fly out everywhere. A dump ouch or something would be nice if you could just throw that in there but you try to throw them back into a magazine stack and you dump the entire stack and just look like an butthole. I mean I'd consider them as good as gone and not bother if someone was actually fricking shooting at me. It's better for realoading if you have loaded magazines and don't drop them. Otherwise an internal magazine you're suppose to load from strippers would be a lot lighter to carry around.
