What weapon do you currently have to defend with? those walls will stop next to nothing so any caliber being fired in this place is going to at least go out into the hallway or into the other rooms
I don't have currently have a gun which is why I was asking what the best weapon it would be to have in this situation. I'd figured buy a gun based off a hypothecial situation like this would be a good idea.
assuming overpenetration and that you currently dont have a gun (and assuming little experience shooting/handling them) a 12g shotgun of any flavor really, got the shotgun general to get ideas there. Its you best bet to cover that small hallway assuming your dumbass roommate doesnt exit from bedroom 1 when you take the shot.
in such a small corridor a bat or even an axe will not be easy to swing. You coudl even that out by trying to square off with them in the living room. But its best to not let them in too deep, especially if we assume they too may have firearms.

Also I need an escape plan as well, I do have a window so I can see them entering the building ahead of time and can act accordingly. I have the stair exit/entrance(a key can be used to unlock the door and acess stairs) and the elevators. On the other side of the hallway with the elevators is another set of stairs but there's something special on this one.

Most intruders will run hard and fast away from the threat. So even if you drop 1 of 3, the other 2 are going to run for it.. Your best move is to stay put, call cops and so forth.
So the other set of stairs lets me go to the backally and escape from the side of the building AND has a door to the lobby to enter and leave from the front.

this assumption is based on luck that they choose your unit at random over any other in the building. It is ok to assume if you see people at the building door who are clearly there to break in. If you aren't up to something where you could expect people to be out for you, just make reasonable assumptions but dont be too paranoid.
Again I would advise against this escape plan you keep talking about getting to these stairs. Once you fire off a shot, they are going to run. You are not going to know which way they ran and dont want to risk bumping into them. Your safest course is to remain in the unit. Also keep in mind Bedroom #1 person, dont leave them behind with a potentially half dead robber in the hallway.

Get a ring camera so you can see who's approaching your apt door and what weapons they have. It'll also allow you to communicate to them via microphone "hey fricknuts I have a loaded gun, keep stepping"
A couple of these are perfect deterrents for a darker shade of 'unknown enemies'.
