What would be the best primitive weapon to use in an post-apocalyptic scenario?

back to barebackin'
>man's first tool
me-me aside, probably lying would be the most common weapon. atleast in the far past you knew a guy wanted you dead- now because of globalism, justified prejudice is not as common
Flintlocks are apocalypse proof.
Making black powder might be a little bit problematic..
You are not producing pure enough KNO3, nor are you finding Sulphur, nor are you going to be able to get that powder fine enough.
I can/have/will. Organic chemistry ftw. Believe it or not, it's the charcoal that's the biggest problem.
Stop projecting your sense of failure onto others the way your pops did. End that cycle, anon.
>claims to be able to make KNO3
>doesn't know how to char organic material
Every moronic bushhcrafter does it regularly
>I can manufacture, from absolute scratch, an inorganic element and an inorganic compound with my organic chemistry knowledge
>I dunno how to make chat though
Jesus, the levels of underage moronation in your post.
Black person I make charcoal in my back yard.
I do not piss on a pile of dead grass multiple times a day, for a year, then hope enough KNO3 formed that I can purify and crystallize it out.
And then even if it did work, it would be enough for about 5 grams of BP.
>Every individual would have to make their own black powder, there'd be no communal attempt to make it.
Why are you assuming everything would just remain in this Anarcho Primitivist vacuum state?
Well in a few thousand years they might figure it out.
blow darts are only viable with poison really. bows and arrows are the main pick really . it would depend which would be the best all rounder tho . you can compensate with different arrow tips for different targets and game but i still probably wouldnt pick a long bow as i would want to be fast on my toes what ever the apokalypse was caused by . humans are still a big threat . comanche style shooting as to rain arrows in fast succession paired with a good mid sized bow and multiple different strings are a good option . a regular crossbow would have more umpf tho . otherwise , well spears because fricking spears .
then again you bet your ass that people will start producing and hoarding their own ammo even if they have lower quantity overall .
>bows and arrows are the main pick really .
Bow takes a lot of skill. Crossbow would be more viable weapon with less practice needed to be effective with.
Crossbow would be good, but it does require metalworking if you need to make one by yourself.
yes and no . i build my assumpion upon the fact that you have no access to any decent materials or tools . crossbows mean more parts and its either specific composits plastics metals a different string and so on . you dont have to be great at tool making nor do you need a lot of tools to make a bow from scretch either and they need less maintenance . beyond that you can require more rapid fire ,general utility and mobility once you have learned the bow . of course it still has short comings which a crossbow would negate . its just what i think is more crucial in a survivalist scenario .
like i mentioned . if you had the tools you might aswell make ammo yourself if you start running low and use a bow and crossbow at the same time to safe the actual more deadly stuff or if you just dont want it loud .
Find a manual on how to make homemade gunpowder and make some bamboo boom boom sticks
Slings.
Just need some twine and river stones.
>Slings.
homie you have to be trained from BIRTH to be good with a sling.
So then buy a helmet and go innawoods…
If you’re lucky, you may even be able to find an instructor.
you're probably better off with a wrist rocket.
A sling in the right hand can produce bullet velocities. Elastic degrades.
>in the right hand
not yours
>projection
Question is, is it your poor strength, or lack of faith in your ability to master the release timing.
its not projection. its actually a very safe guess to say you are not very good with a sling because hardly anyone is good with them. if i was wrong you would have posted your sling already.
>used to practice
meaning you were shit and gave up
Not him but at 35 yards with gravel and a Paracord sling I could consistently nail a sheet of plywood with a decent hit on the central target. You don't have to be a dead shot to hurl heavy things into a group you may never be small game accurate but anyone can become a skirmisher with a sling a couple weeks
I used to practice with slings, it's fun and the ammo is free. It's fairly easy to use a sling well enough to get rocks to go in about the right direction, difficult to hit distant targets spot on. Does it take a lifetime to play golf, tennis or baseball? Only if you want to be the absolute best.
Practice more.
Use manufactured ammo so the weight and shape is consistent.
I practiced with a sling when I was still in school and summers were more or less free. Marriage and kids puts a crimp on my free time
My sling was denim from old blue jeans + whatever rope or cord was around. Ammo was whatever was lying on the ground.
Break action shotguns firing trash shot

Bow
Spear for melee
Why not have two spears, one for throwing the other for melee?
Bow is the superior ranged primitive weapon.
But you can have as many spears as you'd like.
People would probably be able to manufacture primitive ammunition/propellant that will work in muskets/shotguns/revolvers. But you would occasionally see people using modern automatic firearms if they got lucky and found a cache. Eventually people would organize enough to form new nations with the industrial capacity and know how to manufacture modern weapons again
A good knife is what I would wish to have always with me.
In reference to OPs pic, I will NOT be blowing anything.
Pipe mouse trap gun
Pressure cooker
Lmao there so many ways
Let’s say every first world country got nuked along with geopolitically relevant 2nd/3rd world countries like Russia/China/India/Pakistan/Iran/NK. But South America and Africa along with large parts of the ME, SE Asia, non NATO European countries are left untouched by nukes but might have to deal with fallout. How fricked would the worlds arms manufacturing be? Do South America or Africa have the ability to independently make small arms?
>Do South America or Africa have the ability to independently make small arms?
>South America
Have not been in many of those cartel homemade gun threads have you? Frickers doing almost industrial quality occasionally.
I think the harder part is ammunition. Making smokeless powders is not for the faint of heart
Blackpowder, explosive, and incendiary weapons. Steam tanks and ironclads. Airships.
Tldr We go back to 1870s tech
I weld and can do simple blacksmithing, so a long knife or machete when things get really close and personal, a poleaxe or halberd for making intruders go away and a crossbow for hunting and people at longer ranges.
Why all this? I'm fairly strong, and I can build things but I haven't spent a lifetime training in primitive weapons.
It always amazes me that no one ever mentions probably the longest used and most effective weapon of the prehistoric world, the Atlatl
>atlatl used longer than the spear
No
>atlatl good
Lol no
I tried using hook + spear and I suck. The spear would just tumble end over end.
The atl, is a great hunting weapon but the range is that middle ground longer than a ha d thrown javelin but well.within bow range. Idk how it would dare in group combat.
Bola them and then stab them with a spear.
>After humanity has used up all ammo
What have we been doing for fifty years that hasn't at least got local black powder production going again?
Even Mad Max had new munitions production after a while.
Different weapons are effective for different needs.
> t. All of human history.
just let the leaked radiation from all the nuke plants take care of them.
AIDS
Throwing spears when used by group
How the FRICK do people hollow out bamboo? Seriously, that shit is chamber after chamber, wall after wall. You'd almost have to polish it internally too, no? PVC + construction flag bundle + tape is so much easier.
>cut flag shaft to length with hacksaw
>smooth ends with file if necessary
>hammer one end flat on an anvil, which can be improvised
>file edge to sharpen, use bench grinder to rough shape before filing if necessary
>cone of duct tape on the dart tail to seal in the PVC
Easy to do, already prepped, and despite the bright color, it can be painted any color you need. Really only good for small game like squirrel, rabbit, and (in Florida) iguanas, though. I'm sure you could go bigger but your darts need to be bigger and therefore more complicated.
