What would be a good name for a rifle that shoots lightning?

What would be a good name for a rifle that shoots lightning?

I’m writing something with a friend that involves a tesla gun that works like a Winchester 1887 where it charges up at every wiener of the lever.

Have your character hauling around the weird ass gun. When he gets questioned what it is, have him look at the asker as if he's a moron. Have him say it's a bolt action.

    >What would be a good name for a rifle that shoots lightning?
    Depends on where it's made.

-If it's made in the U.S., it should be called the Franklin rod
-if it's made somewhere in Europe, it should be called the Tesla rail
-if Europe makes the Tesla rail first, the US should call their model the Edison hammer

Yeah he became a citizen and did all his work in America. He would be of no special significance to Europeans.

sounds like a german weapon, using literal kraut space magic. why not name it a sturmgewher. foreign names sound cooler.

Don't Captain Nemo's goons have guns exactly like that in "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," OP?

No. Their rifles fired a physical projectile. Still used electricity. I'm vague on details because it's been 25 years since I read Jules Verne. But, IF I remember, I think their rifles used electricity to fire the projectile, and they also delivered a shock (somehow) through the projectile.

And, no, I'm not even gonna try to look that shit up right now. Probably a stupid simple search away, too.

Also, in The Mysterious Island, Nemo's electric rifles also made an appearance of some significance to the plot. Really stretching my memory here, but I think the rifles were able to operate under the sea as well as in open air.

Electricity always chooses a path of least resistance. Such weapon would be utterly useless as it can be countered with a simple metal rod.
