But whoever hasnt seen the movie isnt going to get it no matter how much the wanna lift from it verbatum. and for the sort of stuff in those films where they're "firing" the gun 3 inches from another actor/stuntman's face, would be highly dangerous, if not lethal.
actually, it is
most of the budget goes to lead actors' salary and marketing
ESPECIALLY marketing
trailers, teasers, BTS, guerilla marketing, youtubers, influencers, tie-ins, and reviewers all need to be paid
in contrast, CGI artists have been complaining about sweatshop conditions for nigh on a decade now, mostly blaming Marvel
at a guess (I did 3d modelling for games companies, not film, but know some of the basics) to do that, you'd likely have to chroma green all the gun slides, then you're looking at having to replace every single frame in the entire sequence with CG for the gun slide(s), so instead of adding in a set of frames for muzzle flash, you're having to do every single frame. that would be a massive drain on the budget. For something like the john wick films where a gun is being waved around for 90% of the film, that would be a monumental outlay.
Or you could just add a spring and a small electric motor to run the slides/bolts on their prop guns. I didn't notice it until near the end of the first movie when he runs that ksg25 and no spent shells come out. Cannot unsee though
I wouldn't be overly surprised if even airsoft guns, being pretty solid, are a risk for stuntmen in the sort of really up-close melee fighting there.
the chances are those guns are a single real one (or airsoft) that has been used to make a mould, and all the guns for the film are then cast in soft foam, and painted - really like LARP weapons like foam swords. That way, if you're doing a butt-strike, or jamming the gun into someone's ribcage, or stuff like that, you're not risking injury.
If I were the director of a film (insert hysterical laughter) I might well use the same guns for all scenes, even if they're not right up close and in your face, because you might be switching between multiple scenes or multiple takes during the shoot, and therefore, it eliminates risk of a "real" hard gun being picked up in a "soft" safer scene, and it cuts down on the logistics of the entire production.

There are prop guns that use electric motors or compressed air to move slides and simulate recoil; they're not often used because of cost and added complexity. Most prop guns you see in films aren't functional, and if not shown clearly or in close-up are often solid plastic.
It's a John Wick movie, 80% of the "gunshots" are taking place within a few inchest of someone's face. I hate the rise of blatant CGI effects overtaking actual blanks but there's no real feasible way of doing these kind of movies with their brand of stylized action scenes with blanks.
Just use CO2 blowback or get Coolfire barrels for the existing guns dude, it's a 75 million dollar movie
smoke blanks, these days simunition tries to approximate recoil and muzzle blast, which makes it very dangerous to use up close, but in those days its literally the same stuff in a capgun cap
When you watch older movies that use real blanks, you'll notice that shooting scenes involve multiple cuts where characters are shooting at each other, but both characters aren't in the same shot. It works in movies like Die Hard, but for something like John Wick that was a full 180 from the action movie jump cut nightmare of the 2000s, CGI gunshots worked better.
I'd say that's a valid excuse. Since the 1st movie, John Wick has been just as much about the martial arts Kung Fu moves as it has been about the guns. Getting to watch a scene where the camera has both John and his opponent in full view as they fight it out is great. Without the jump cuts, it makes it feel like you're standing there watching the fight happen rather than watching a movie about it. CGI gunshots is an acceptable price to pay for that, but for what it's worth, I think the 1st one was the only really great movie out of the 4.

I can't speak of coolfire but airsoft gun barrels do not behave anything like a real gun, it would be almost immersion breaking, I think.
Watch a few of the more well known action flicks from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s and see how many actually feature someone firing a blank at someone in the same frame shot. Whenever someone shoots at someone else in a movie from those eras it's practically guaranteed going to be a shot of the shooter firing, then a cut to the person being shot at with the gunshot audio overlaid over both shots to give the impression of continuity despite both being filmed at completely different times.
>We are all a little Tuco friend
I've literally said "if you work for a living, why have a nice day working?" like once a week for a decade to remind myself that my giant corporate overlord doesn't care when I beat myself up about problems at work, and to just turn the work phone off at 5 on the dot.
Tuco as a character has absolutely has been instrumental in making my life better, which is a little ridiculous to admit but still truth.
I've had a wired life but I enjoyed some of the corporate stuff I did a longtime ago. I've never enjoyed the violent stuff or made many friends with it. Tuco for me is the fine art of not giving a shit.

IMHO statements like these don't pass the smell test for me. Back then (2001-2007) weapon effect CGI weren't available at that price to those kinds of production companies.
If that shit was filmed today I will guarantee you that they'd have used CGI.
I was exaggerating but TPB used to use gas-blowback airsoft and rarely even actual guns with blanks. After they moved to Netflix, it's just shitty, static props with bad muzzle flashes.

For me it's the Taran Tactical JW4 pit Viper.
The Pit Viper was created specifically for the most badass assassins, to be the apex fighting pistol. Not only is this gun poised to take the crown for the most badass handgun in Hollywood history, Taran sent it to take the overall title at the first ever USPSA 2-Gun Nationals in 2021. The Pit Viper was designed before the Sand Viper, but had to wait in the shadows to strike until now. The Pit Viper let its sister take the limelight—which completely set the industry on fire with no Hollywood movie behind her... (yet)
Like the Sand Viper, nothing has been compromised in making this serpents hidden fangs strike. With a built in static fiber optic front sight, single port compensator, ghost profile adjustable rear sight, Extreme Engineering LiteSpeed Fire Control System, Aftec Extractor, and seamlessly blended grip safety delivers reliability, accuracy and ergonomics like no other. This is the ultimate handgun.

Fricking sucks that only Cooper directors still use blanks and squibs.
