What kind of tool belt do you use?

What kind of tool belt do you use?

I'm in the market for a new one and I'm split between Occidental Leather and Akribis leather. Occidental tool belts look classic but for me they either have too many or not enough pockets, and I hate having the tape measure holder above your tools so it makes it awkward to pull the tools out. The Akribis belts look super functional and around the same price.

I had co-worker that brought his cousin to work for a week as a laborer and had his cousin wear his tool belt for him.

That's a good way to start learning the job, unironically. On my current project we hired a temp and he learnt what tool I needed and would give it to me before I asked. We hired him pretty fast after that.

My old boss used to always tell me that a good helper is like having 4 arms. They know the process, they are watching what you're doing and they are ready to hand the next tool to you when you need it without even asking.

I use a tool bag. Hate belts when you're trying to kneel down or get under something laying on your back. Work pants have massive pockets these days if I'm swapping between tools on a job

      You never use a ladder?
Did i tell you about the time I left my framing hammer on top of the ladder, and then I forgot and tried to move the ladder? Something bad happened.

Almost never. I spend most of my time under sinks and baths on my knees or on my back. Stepladders occasionally but I just put what I need in my large front pockets

Best belt I ever had was a custom mcrose before it was stolen. Cheaper than oxys and same if not better quality. The sheepskin lining was money too. Right now I'm just rocking two suede 10-pocket clc bags on a padded lowes belt. They're good enough, easy to repair, and most importantly, light.

I have an Akribis setup. I’ve never worn Occidentals but I’m satisfied with my rig. In my opinion Akribis is higher quality, but the pouches are smaller and hold less stuff. I don’t like to be a walking tool box so it doesn’t bother me much. I did get the fancy quick connect belt and it’s pretty sweet. The bit index is hugely helpful as well

I use toughbuilt cliptech pouches. I like that I can remove them easily and can attach spare clips to my parts cart or even the top of my ladder.
