Being destroyers sized frigate with actual armament as previous Kraut destroyer sized frigate was built for asymmetric threats in post Cold War environment and is armed more in line with corvette than fricking frigate.
Aside from being 10k tons it is very conventional frigate. Virtually only thing in it that doesn't scream average frigate is having 127mm gun instead of 76mm. What is unsettling is that it has only 16 cell VLS at 10k ton displacement. Ship of that size should have about 64 VLS cells, at least 48.
If you haven't noted drones have become cheap as frick, next step in the game might be spam of discount cruise missiles. 3d printing will make small jet engines cheaper. Electronics are getting more and more sophisticated yeah decade that passes. That discount anti-ship missile might not sink warship, but it might take out or seriously degrade performance of half a billion dollar radar system.
