bowdrill, it sucked, flint and steel is fun since flint is everywhere around me, and learning the properties of different materials is fun, charring and such.
i once made fire with a bow-drill. friend of mine selected the wood, dried it and brought it with him, because he's a master in this skill. 5 minutes and he's got a fire going. so he taught 2 friends and me how to do it. the 2 friends had enough after 1 hour of trying, but i wanted to success and made it after almost 1,5 hours. it was winter and i can tell you it was one of the best feelings to see that fire burning, the warmth that it gave and the knowledge that i made it just from rubbing wood together. glorious. >would recommend
we once tried to ignite a joint with a super powerful 5 dollar-chink-laser and after about 10 seconds that thing was lit
Bow drill once just because, it works but I didn't like it. Lighter but have played with a fire steel enough times to feel comfortable with it. I use it as backup.
Bow drill is a good skill but it takes too long and too much effort. >it was winter
that would make it tougher
Use the toothpaste to polish the bottom of the can until it’s very shiny. Then reflect the sun off of the can as a focused beam onto a tinder bundle. Google “start a fire with an aluminum can” and you’ll see a bunch of videos using different stuff to polish the can.
hatchet, knife, and a pocket saw
whittled some wood to light, sparked it with some flint and steel, blew it and added kindling until it started up and worked up to bigger logs. did it in a little fire pit I dug out and stacked rocks for
pretty comfy but there went my entire fricking morning, even after getting up at ~5am with the Sun
