When any other mech performs better, the definition of the urbanmech's performance is not "great". It would be more like "below average".

The only time when urbanmechs have shined was when the local head of come city's security had a big brain moment and realised he could get 100 urbanmechs for the price of an Atlas and equip all the urbanmechs with an AC/20.

It's basically a mobile turret for city defence. Use it for its purpose and it works well.

They’re absurdly nasty in city defense and ambush. The LB-10 X version and RAC/5 variants can shred mechs very quickly or kill vehicles just as fast. The Urbanmech also is surprisingly tough in the tabletop in the environment it was built for.

Id rather have a 4/6/4 mover and pay a little more BV in a city fight. If im locking down a firing lane id rather use the same BV in tanks.

Tanks can’t jump. And find me a 4/6/4 city fighter for sub 600 BV akin to the Urbie

Beat me to it. Trashcan armor, barely mobile, not at all made for frontline service. But you can slap a big frickoff gun on it and it's incredibly cheap.

I dislike the urbie and it's memes. It's a shit mech that gets stomped by even the most basic locust or flea. No amount of big dakka makes up for its zero mobility combined with junk armor.

I always hated the BT rule where mechs had to expend 1 movement point to change hexside facing. I get it was done for a rule on a level higher than tactical, but it made no sense if a mech could swing / flip its arms for aiming (as well as torso turn).

That’s part of why the Urbie has a special 360 torso twist rule. It can shoot directly behind itself.

Pick literally anything Russian. No, the one variant that mounts an AC/20 doesn't make it good. It only makes it fun.

    closest would be the valentine
which was a small-ish tank that had the armor of a medium tank and engines that would have been seen on a scout car
and was extremely cheap and could be spammed, it was the most produced british tank of the war

ironically, while the urbanmech was deigned to maneuver around tight urban areas as the name implies and was useless in open combat
the valentine saw heavy use in north africa, where its armor allowed it to close the distance to enemy forces despite its slow speed, but saw very little actual urban combat as it was phased out by the time fighting in western europe occured

    Bob Semple

lets not get ahead of ourselves here, the bob semple was built in a garage using off the shelf parts using a tractor as a base
at least the urbanmech is useful in the role it was designed for, even if hilariously useless anywhere else

the bob semple is closer to boss borot

if the Bob Semple had been put into mass production, it would have been pretty close to the Urbanmech I think
