Pepper spray and the largest blunt weapon you have. You blind them and once they can't see you break their arms or legs with a baseball bat, tire iron, large wrench, or anything else similar. Small warning though, if you hit them in the head with the blunt object then its no longer non-lethal.

Can I ask why you feel the need for non-lethal so much? As a civilian either your life is in danger and lethal is justified (and possibly necessary) or your life isn't in danger and you probably shouldn't escalate.

I hate tazers, thick clothing can defeat them and some people have hearts so strong that it doesn't work on them while others have hearts so weak that it isn't non-lethal.

I would like to be able to escalate and use non-lethal in situations where my life isn't in danger. Old lady cut in line at the grocery store? Time to bust out the pepper spray and the tire iron

Tazers are short range and require solid contacts on a target, and thick clothing is enough to counter the barbs.

Beanbag rounds are underpowered and unreliable to anyone posing a serious threat.

Rubber rounds are generally dangerous, packing a punch but skirting the "less lethal" line with broken bones and partial penetrations (as they're meant for deflection fire, but get used in direct fire irresponsibly).

CS gas is questionably reliable, poses a risk of collateral effects due to its indirect nature, can be countered by masking or by some individuals with a tolerance, and damages property substantially when used indoors. I believe I recall that it's also flammable.

I'm going with a microwave gun, something portable but similar to the crowd control microwaves mounted on vehicles. With the proper settings it provides a maximum effect while being virtually harmless. Combining the sensation of one's skin boiling with concussion tools like flashbangs, or the laser-dazzler rifles, you achieve total disorientation, deterence, panick, and pacify the threat without causing any direct harm. If it doesn't simply demoralize an enemy into surrender or retreat, it renders them incapable of fighting, and with no real risk of collateral damage to property or persons.

You're confusing OC (oleoresin capsicum) spray AKA pepper spray, with CS (chlorobenzylidenemalononitrile) gas AKA tear gas. Old school pepper sprays used to contain ethanol which is why the person in your picture getting pepper sprayed is engulfed in flames.

Anon, there's a reason this doesn't exist. A shitty little home microwave operates off 600 watts. An 18650 battery is only capable of doing 88 watts max. You may fit 2 in a grip. Idk how much I'd trust a weapon that hits with 1/4 of the power it takes to heat up a bowl of soup in 3 minutes.

These are solvable problems. You could run them via tether to a vehicle, or a backpack equipped external power supply. Remember that the device doesn't cook them, nor are you looking to have any amount of physical damage inflicted; these devices only give the sensation of burning, but they don't penetrate more than the upper layers of skin, and have no lasting effect when used properly. It doesn't need to be self-contained to be practical, and unlike other options, its effectiveness isn't subjective and dependent upon ideal factors like tazers or kinetic pain compliance. The tradeoff for a less mobile device is an almost totally safe and incomparably effective tool. Even the most uncooperative or intoxicated threat wouldn't be able to resist its effects. It wouldn't solve every situation, no kit can, but it has its place in crowd control, and so other uses are possible to extrapolate from its performance there.

Look up Active Denial System. Smaller units are already in use in some prisons. Downside is it won't get through tinfoil so won't be good at conspiracy events

CS gas is also highly carcinogenic. Clothing exposed to it should be chucked and never used again.

The frick, how have I never heard of that? And this too...
        >Although described as a non-lethal weapon for crowd control, studies have raised doubts about this classification. CS can cause severe pulmonary damage and can also significantly damage the heart and liver.[20]
        >CS gas can have a clastogenic effect (abnormal chromosome change) on mammalian cells, but no studies have linked it to miscarriages or stillbirths.[20] In Egypt, CS gas was reported to be the cause of death of several protesters in Mohamed Mahmoud Street near Tahrir square during the November 2011 protests. The solvent in which CS is dissolved, methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK), is classified as harmful by inhalation; irritating to the eyes and respiratory system; and repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking.[21]
And I'm not sure how similar MIBK is to MEK (methyl ethyl ketone), but MEK is nasty, cacinogenic shit. Great for repairing cracked ABS though.

Objectively, CS gas canisters that can clear out a whole area and make them cry and shoot snot out of their noses.

Individually, tasers and OC spray if used properly. Taser means the ones with the prongs, cops don't carry the noise maker ones because they don't actually work. Cops also wouldn't carry shit that doesn't work so you know tasers and OC work.

And the worst I gotta say is pepperball. I could stand there all day and get pepperballed, barely causes an annoying cough. Good for crowd deterrence and not much else.

Having been gassed with both, CS is way worse. But OC can be effective if you don’t frick around with those little compact stream models.

12ga rubber slug (subsonic) or beanbag (supersonic). Yes, they are a lot more dangerous, but it's the only actually reliable "less lethal" projectile weapon. That and pepper spray, obviously very short range.
Taser is literally a lottery, I've seen them fail an untold number of times in arrests. Sometimes the perp has a thick jacket, sometimes theres no reason at all. Everything else is a joke. When you have a man coming at you from 20 yards away you don't get many chances to stop him. And you don't want to fail with nonelethals and be forced to permanently solve his problem with 10mm and then deal with the fallout of that for months or years.

    pepper spray. by a lot.
don't get the tiny stream kind they market to women, get the kind that makes a cloud. a good face full of that will stop an attacker more reliably than a small caliber pistol. no amount of machismo or pcp will let you fight through non functional eyes and lungs.

I've always thought those paintballs filled with OC powder were a pretty good compromise. Don't think I'd trust the handgun style ones that are common on the commercial market, but the rifle style ones seem pretty effective. You have more range than typical OC spray, and can get a sort of area of effect by firing it through windows or open doors to fill a room or vehicle with spicy air, and you also have the ability to inflict pain compliance through direct hits.

Not really that big of a deal. Each individual pepperball isn't that powerful, but when you have a barricaded or non-compliant subject in a confined space you can mag dump into a wall near them and create a pretty uncomfortable place to be.

the only nonlethal that is actually reliable and works is knowing martial art holds or knowing how to use something like a baton to beat people into submission or break there legs

everything else is just not reliable
tazers dont work half the time and have a crazy range of effectiveness if they do even work based on where they hit how far the barbs are from eachother etc etc etc so in most cases even if it works it barely does anything
pepper spray doesnt work half the time and it gasses everyone nearby including you and isnt that effective in the first place
shooting people with rubber shotgun slugs or things like that are both not legally considered nonlethal if you are not a cop and are just plain out NOT nonlethal

if you actually care about self defense (not just throwing a can of pepper spray in your pocket and larping that you are prepared to defend) yourself AND dont want to shoot someone then you have to learn proper martial art holds and grappling or you have to carry and train with a extendable baton

and all that to be able to defend yourself from a UNARMED attacker only

nonlethal is moronic unless you are a team of police officers trying to capture someone to arrest them or if you are a kidnapper i guess
in almost every single self defense situation from a knife to a gun to someone just trying to beat you up and stomp your head on the sidewalk you would be 100000x better off with something lethal like a gun even blackpowder or one of those little concealable crossbows if you cant even have that
