What is it?

I found this piece of iron on the bulkhead of a transmission power pole. Is it a spacer for bolts? It's iron, and very solid.

The transmission lines are right beside an old railroad track. Maybe it's something for trail or railway work?

You found a dingenhobbler. If you knew where those were made you probably wouldn't have wanted to touch it.

So... It's just a junk piece of art?

It's a tie clip. It keeps the cross tie in place.

Thanks, m8! I figured it was a spike or anchor of some kind.

It's part of the railway. Apparently railway workers, who had a social security before there was such a thing, are not paid extra to pick up parts they leave along the track. It's made out of very high-grade steel, lasts a very long time sitting on gravel (good drainage). And it's a felony to try to sell them to a scrapyard (my guess is possession of a TSA protected transport system, without looking it up).

I've seen piles of spikes and other fasteners along active railway routes. Like they were using an automated machine to replace the spikes, then dumping a cache of them every 500 ft.

That's intriguing. My dad used to cut up and sell old abandoned railroad iron to sell as scrap. He had to jump through some legal hoops before he could start.

Lol no. It's all cheap shit, especially the spikes. Even the ones marked HC (high carbon) a shit

Put it back, it's criminal and deadly to remove parts of the tracks.

If it was just sitting there, it was removed and replaced. They don't reuse them
