The FN MAG and G3 are pretty solid, the PK machine gun is very nice as well. I can't really think of any currently used bad GPMGs of the top of my head
Anyone know how the AA-52 is? I have always thought they were interesting. But I am gonna have to agree with other anons and say the FN MAG/M240 is the best on that list.
Mexico actually uses it as a squad MG for recon and armored troops. They seem to like it a lot. They're surprisingly compact and are actually pretty easy to handle.
Fired it in training in the French Foreign Legion. It’s just a belt-fed machine gun. The MAG is superior because you can just crank the gas and shoot a million rounds through it no problem. The AA-52 is lever delayed blowback like the FAMAS so once it’s all dirty and starts failing to eject you can’t do shit to fix it except clean it.
FN MAG stomps on both of them
it replaced the M60, in fact, as the only advantage the M60 had was its size and the M240 handily outperforms it pretty much everywhere else
Its the E6 now, and the funniest thing is that it was going against the MG4 and 5, which are essentially HK upsized Minimis.
The new generation of MGs seems fairly uninspired, the Sig XM250 and the Evolys(gay ass name) dont have much else beyond DUDE WHAT IF THE FEED TRAY WAS SMALL, NO REZEROING OPTICS
Isn't pretty much every nation that uses these machine guns just using the FN Mag in the actual combat stuff? I thought the M60 and MG3 were relegated to training or reserve use only in the US and Germany respectively.
>Isn't pretty much every nation that uses these machine guns just using the FN Mag in the actual combat stuff?
either that or or they buy russian
> I thought the M60 and MG3 were relegated to training or reserve use only in the US and Germany respectively.
variants of the M60 are used for specialist purposes, where the semi-bullpup design might matter
the MG3 is widely used outside of germany, but mostly as a supplement to the MAG, the leopard 2 really got around and no one is turning down a free MG3 to go with it
The MAG is everywhere because they are built like fricking brick shithouses and they will literally never break even if they are so worn down they are smoothbore, single shot muskets. Armies buy them and they just tend to outlast other guns and remain static in the inventory even if they dont always actually get used, though a vast majority of them are vehicle mounted because they suck ass for infantry without burger sized logistics and vehicle space.
You see PKMs used in the field a lot more and not just because arab and slavic shitholes are at war, next are minimis which are much, much more practical and then everything else.
Somehow PKM manages to be lighter than most intermediate using machine guns.
But I hear that it isn't eternal and can't be shot when pointed to the space
what the hell are you talking about, PKMs are only really used by people who were russian-aligned to begin with
and the MAG is used in both vehicle and infantry roles since its a general-purpose MG
PK iland PK inspired machineguns are used used by virtually all post soviet republic including NATO ones and a shitload of countries in Africa and Asia, they get around a lot. FN MAGs have a shitload of users but not all of them or even most of them field them with infantry, they are way more popular as mounted guns or static defense for some guard. They are not well liked by infantry, the weight genuinely makes the added firepower less worth it.
again, youre talking out of your as
the M240B is the standard machine gun in the weapons platoon of the US and the FN MAG is the standard issue one in the UK
the MG3 is the only mostly used in vehicle mounts in Canada, because the vehicles they bought came with an MG3 already installed
they use the MAG in their weapons platoons same as everyone else
>though a vast majority of them are vehicle mounted because they suck ass for infantry without burger sized logistics and vehicle space.
Wat
Anon, the US was late to the party on the MAG compared to the rest of the Western world.
Many countries that have them in inventory have them at platoon level weapons squads or even as the main squad level MG.
The MAG and it's variants are great vehicle mounted guns they however suck donkey dick for dismounted use when the poor fricker has to carry up to 10 extra pounds of gun instead of ammo. The M60 and PKM are var better for dismounted use
FN MAG and its derivatives like the M240B
By what metric? The Negev is pretty good as a squad MG, but an M240 would be better for tripod fire.
The FN MAG and G3 are pretty solid, the PK machine gun is very nice as well. I can't really think of any currently used bad GPMGs of the top of my head
>I need to walk around in the fricking jungle or the city
M60
>I'm anywhere else
I want the mg3
whatever one you have the most parts & ammo for, so basically either an FN MAG or a PKM
Anyone know how the AA-52 is? I have always thought they were interesting. But I am gonna have to agree with other anons and say the FN MAG/M240 is the best on that list.
from what i've seen people liked it a lot

Don't they need lubricated cartridges or something?

MG3 and M60
But only because OP isn't aware that MG42 is fielded in Ukraine
FN MAG stomps on both of them

nta
the M60e4 mogged those in the danish trials

I want a nazi gun
Maxim.

As a former FN MAG-operating infantryman, I call bullshit.

FN MAG. You can't argue with success.
The other half is probably largely PKM and derivatives, but it's a good MG too
M240, PKM, MG3
None of those have real sovl
The MAG and it's variants are great vehicle mounted guns they however suck donkey dick for dismounted use when the poor fricker has to carry up to 10 extra pounds of gun instead of ammo. The M60 and PKM are var better for dismounted use
How much does the FN MAG weigh compared to the PKM and the M60? I just googled it and it said they were both 26lbs with the M60 being 23 lbs
Sorry you have girly wrists/are stupid and carry unnecessary trash.
100% the PKM
M60E6 is a runner up
