Went camping for the first time ever with my friend and took a bunch of these we got at REI.
First off they aren't very big we had to eat like 3 of them to get full.
Second while my friend was fine they gave me bloody wind for like 3 days. We had to go to the gas station so I could get canned food.
I premake grain mixes in bags, instant rice, bouillon cubes, home dried veg for example.
Toss it in a pot, cover with water, and you get a good base for adding meat too.
Cheap too.
>taking ultralight thru hiker richgay slop on a camping trip
Why? Camping implies you're going to have a stove and a table to prepare food
That is what the guy at REI recommended.
He sold us a little stove for boiling water since he said you should always boil your water and he said once you have that these bags are the easiest way to make a hot meal.
That dude fleeced the frick out of you noobs
>boil water
Get a gravity filter or some purification tabs.
You can make your own stove out of garbage lmao
>listening to REI employees
lmao, anon got bent over by the retail employee
It's alright friend. Live and learn.
>thru hikers eat these
No they don’t.
No it doesn't, moron.
It would be hard for you to be more wrong.
That stuff is for people going on long hikes not casual camping. If you're just going out for a couple or few days a decent cooler with real food is 100% doable even by a moron.
That brand has acceptable quality and is reliable, however very expensive. I'd use them as nothing more than a nutritionally balanced supplement.
>had to eat like 3 of them
Trolling or megafauna euro
They only have like 500 to 600 calories, so you do got to eat like three of them a day.
>600 calories
>70% daily sodium
If you eat three of those in a day you deserve whatever you get
>letting the feds tell you how much sodium to eat
Look at this sodiumlet.
Fact is sodium is good for everyone except people who have broken their cardiovascular systems by sitting around all the time. If you are hiking or backpacking or whatever other physical activity, electrolytes like sodium are great.2arts
600 calories is nothing, even three of them is only 1800, with all hiking you've burned off a decent amount of that. Sodium I'm not worried about, consume more water and you'll be fine.
>her body is so weak a little salt once a while completely destroys her little stummy :c
I like readywise more. They have more calories, I can find them for 5 bucks at my local Walmart.
I like these packs a lot, they don't have any meat so you have to add sausages or chicken. I like bringing packets of chicken or tuna along and just mixing it with pasta or rice. Vienna sausages are great too.
Another option is MREs from milsurp stores or websites, they usually come in flameless rations heaters so it's convenient if it's wet or windy. They're still pricy but not quite as expensive as the stuff at REI. Walmart sells MRE type things too but I haven't tried them personally.
Bear Creek has good soups and chili's also. Add water and simmer for like 10 minutes and you get plenty for 4 people to eat.
>they gave me bloody wind for like 3 days
Haha....what does this mean?
It means OP was a glutton and ate way too much dehydrated food loaded with preservatives so he could feel "full"
What it means is I had bad wind after eating 3 of these for dinner and it just kept going. We got to a spot on the trail and I felt like I needed to check and sure enough just like I thought there was some blood on my unders that had come out with the wind.
Kept up like that for 3 days I had to bleach my unders several times to get them clean.
>just like i thought
if this is so common for you that you can be like "oh yeah there was probably blood in that one again" you have problems that another ration couldn't fix. go to a doctor
I can make a 1000 calorie meal for less than 3$ with macaroni
The Breakfast Skillet one is about like eating dog food. I take these on kayaking trips along with other foodstuffs. Usually a good bit of frozen meat. By the time we make camp the meat is thawed and ready to cook. If you have access to foodstamps/EBT you can use them to buy these at Walmart and save the little bit in taxes. Their biggest advantage is in their shelf life.
I like Peak Refuel for dinners. Way more calories compared to Mountain House. Frick doing dishes in the woods.
Couscous and SPAM singles is all you need. Thank me later.
