    if thermal expansion and direct sun exposure are a major concern then ceramic tile is hard to beat...especially with that cute little floor shredder machine in the picture.

    Of the less common alternatives you might want to look into real old school linoluem (Marmoluem) or natural (ie not dyed) cork....both are softer and quieter than tile but are remarkably durable and take on a pleasant patina as they age.

    Bamboo would be another option but be aware that the stuff that is heat treated to darken it (carbonized) can fade very quickly in direct sun, like within 6-8 months. If you go that route or with a stable hardwood I would pop for something prefinished with an aluminum oxide coating so little shithead there doesn't leave a trail of clawmarks between the door and his barking spot at the window.

      I think marmoleum is what im looking for, never heard of it until i started researching this, thanks
      I like the colour options and it seems pretty simple to install
      Im not against tile but more than half my house is already tile and i want something warmer
      Im not really worried about wear ,i love patina and dont get stressed about scuffs and marks like some people

    Brick/Tile = durable
    Vinyl = Cheap
    Hardwood = nah
    Engineered Hardwood = loud & expensive

    Tile. Vinyl sucks and any plastic-based floors emit toxic fumes to varying degrees, especially if in sunlight.

    Vinyl doesn't expand and contract but you'd need to buy one that claims it won't fade from UV exposure

    I would probably just recarpet it because I would have hardwood floors throughout the rest of the house tho

      Most likely vinyl composition tile (VCT) but could also be vinyl asbestos tile

    Heated tile or engineered flooring, get rid of the baseboard heater.
