I never bring a Bluetooth speaker, and I tell my friends not to either, but they keep it quiet until camp/ during dinner and usually blast death metal or calm meditation music. No in-between.

      >Calm meditation music

Christ I hate that shit. It is completely antithetical to what meditation is. Buddha actually forbade the enjoyment of music to his monks, AN 8.41:

"All arahants, for as long as life lasts, have given up singing and dancing, the playing of musical instruments and the watching of entertainments, which are stumbling blocks to that which is wholesome."

as well as the fact that seclusion is necessary to enter the most basic stages of meditation, AN 5.28:

"There is the case where a monk—quite secluded from sensuality, secluded from unskillful qualities—enters & remains in the first jhāna: rapture & pleasure born of seclusion, accompanied by directed thought & evaluation. He permeates & pervades, suffuses & fills this very body with the rapture & pleasure born of seclusion."

So whenever your new age friends start playing ringing bowls or whateverthehell you can confidently tell them to shut up and frick off. In a compassionate way, of course.

Really just camping alone is the only way to guarantee a decent experience.

Holy frick the monks are brain dead dummies sedated to lower their IQ Each passing day.

        This is sad really.

When I think of legit music-haters, and I think Amish or something. I think t.youre wrong, and monks love some good music for the soul .

DOOM metal music 24/7 radio on yt.
But I usually use my OG wired headphones light weight 90's style when I do on hike
Wear them above my ears, not covering my ears so I can hear the wind and terrain under my feet.
Last night I heard a *groonk* but i thought it was a tire going over a rock.
Heard another like sound 2 seconds later.
Two huge javelina pigs were about twenty feet away on my north as I walked west (bare foot, carrying my shoes bc exercise). Big fat piggys scrambling in the night, just glad I was by myself, my dog would have freaked out.

Back in the day, I worked on RF countermeasures for the military (i.e., ECM/EWAR).

Bluetooth speakers can be remotely destroyed with off-the-shelf components, I'm quite sure. I'm going to look into this.

I never. The only acceptable thing is singing the Rennsteiglied, Das Wandern Ist Des Müllers Lust, etcetera yourself.

When I've sent up camp, got the fire going and am hitting the booze I like to play some Irish/Scottish folk music on the speaker or maybe an audiobook. Nothing better than gazing into the fire listening to some grizzled old man voice read me some Cormac McCarthy and glugging whisky as the sun goes down
