Thanks for the link. I think it's pretty obvious she died of exposure.
A woman surviving alone in the wilderness is already unlikely, but if she was also naked? Possibly took drugs as well (since she said it was a spiritual quest).

Weatherspark claims that the area she was in, outside of Portland, can get down to 45F at night in June, with 25% chance of rain.

The terrain is rough, with some of the biggest mountains in the U.S. That can make it tough to go even 5 miles. She had no map. Mountains can form a kind of labyrinth. Even if you're 5 miles away from civilization, it doesn't mean anything if you're stuck in an impassable valley and you can't climb out.

She might even have broken an ankle in that terrain, which makes movement even slower, if not impossible. No emergency phone meant she couldn't call for help.

She was an amateur. She was probably counting on being able to light a fire to keep warm at night without clothes. Getting rained on will suck the heat right out of you, even in June, especially in the shadow of those mountains.

In addition, rain makes it hard for someone inexperienced to light a fire. The hypothesis that she died from exposure seems likely.

Without food or water, the body shuts down rapidly. Maybe she did manage to find water, but she didn't have anything to purify it with, which meant that even if she lived more than a couple days, she might have been delirious from waterborne diseases.

I attribute deaths like this to the Dunning Kreuger effect. She liked being out in the wilderness, and she was pushing her limits, but she didn't have enough experience to know how dangerous her lack of experience truly was.

We have a lot of deaths like this up here on Mount Washington. It's a story that's all too common.

45 and rain while naked is peak comfy, after a few days of being soaking wet in this weather you will feel much much warmer by being naked instead.

This is easily the dumbest outdoor disappearance I've heard of. Both her and the party she was with was moronic. They were most likely fricked on mushrooms. She prob died of exposure that night because coming down on any drug naked in a forest even in the summer going to be a horrifically bad time.

      >her trail ends on a road
      >her "friends" for some reason is awfully fast to declare her missing
I think foul play is involved here, and the group who was with her is pretty suspect.

She said she’d be back by midnight, and wandered off into the woods. They called authorities the following morning. In your opinion, how long should they have waited?

You heard that on TV. It’s a myth; there is no waiting period.

You declare somebody missing as soon as you think they're missing. Why would you wait to ensure they're dead first?

            Anonymous

It depends on the circumstances. In a situation like this, where someone went out without supplies for an overnight, and doesn't return by nightfall, it's obvious that there's a problem. For missing person cases in cities, especially when the subject is a young person who might just be staying someplace else and not checking/ignoring their phone, it's a little different.

            >i believe it's normally 24-48 hours
lol just some myth. You can declare someone missing almost immediately if you believe there's something wrong or they're in trouble.
EX: Some autistic kid wanders out of his backyard and disappears. You can call the cops and immediately declare them missing, cause the kid might get hurt. You don't have to wait days.
Some chick saying she'll be back soon, but isn't by next morning, totally would be taken seriously.

She was definitely shrooming, and she almost certainly died of exposure. It sounds like the scope of their search was incredibly narrow because they assumed she couldn't have gotten too far with bare feet, but if you're a hippie chick who's used to tromping around barefoot, your feet are going to be a heck of a lot tougher than the average person's. Chances are once she started to come down, she realized how lost she was, and she tried to find shelter somewhere, which led to her inadvertently hiding her body.

Died of exposure or hitchhiked some crazy guy who raped the shit out of her when he found her freezing, naked and high then buried her in a barrel somewhere. Probably exposure.

Crazy that her friends let her go. You’d think there’d be at least one of them that was into her and would jump at a chance to be alone with her, naked in the woods

      >Crazy that her friends let her go
I'm surprised none of her family members took legal action against her friends.
