True but they should be. I like being able to use the compression straps and still strap things like a fishing rod to the side. Most regular consoomer hiking backpacks don't let me do that.

You are generally right. It is really hard to live self sufficiently in Europe, though not impossible especially in the Balkans. And yeah overpopulation is an issue, but guess what? Second world nations are experiencing a mass exodus of people and villages in hard to access areas are dying and nature is taking over again. In a couple of decades it'll become wilder than Muttmerica where the population density will continuously rise. So yeah it is fricked, but in the near future it'll become a true paradise.
