Weaponised space ships

Will we see them in our lifetimes, how will they be equipped? Picrel is my own desing for an orbital/intraplanetary interceptor powered by nuclear thermal propulsion and armed with an analogy of anti-ship missiles

    Define "space ship"
    ASAT weapons already exist.

fighting "in space" is like fighting a battle in the middle of the pacific ocean. there is nothing there to fight over

You know what I meant, calm down Black person. Don't get upset and get killed by the police.

Do you hear that? It's the sound of the hole you're digging

Exactly, what moron would bother putting resources into that? Pic unrelated.

    >Weaponised space ships
"There is no such thing as an unarmed spacecraft"
The Kzinti lesson is, "a reaction drive's efficiency as a weapon is in direct proportion to its efficiency as a drive."

Fighting in space will be missile based. It will be all missile carrier that rule. The bigger the better, the one with the most interceptors and attacking missiles win.

This has been my thinking too, but if anti-missile missiles or ciws analogies become more efficient I could also see ultra high velocity "dumb" ammunition be viable

At the distances we’re talking about, you need something maneuverable. Otherwise your target can just dodge before the projectiles get there. Shotguns are another option but that’s risky if you’re in orbit and don’t want to create debris. Lasers will require a lot of power but might be viable.

shoot out a rocket with a railgun, problem fixed

one thing im wondering about is if unmanned, remotely controlled combat ships will be that big of a thing once we get serious about colonizing our system and we start to put some bigboi weapons up there, just because of the lag due to insane distances? seems like the choice will be between either fully manned or fully ai, or is there some way to make rc work in a meaningful way without the delay fricking up the pilot?

You could go halfway with big droneboats. You could stay out of weapons range with a reasonable delay time while your drones approach the target.

    yes
we will sea orbital gun/missile spacecrafts a few years after the orbital rush when it's clear that orbital industry and mining is the next 100 trillion $ industry

I feel like it could be similar to the early sail age in the Caribbeans/Atlantic with chartered companies engaging in guerre de course, piracy and fighting for control of asteroids fields

no earth analogy will work for orbital warfare or crime/law enforcment

for one piracy is not viable in most scenarios
