5.56 SBRs, .300BLK and PDWs are all trying to solve problems that SMGs already solved, let rifles do rifle things and SMGs do SMG things

5.56 SBR is kinda dumb, but the PDW concept is simply the natural evolution of SMGs. The P90 was a bad implementation, but you could have a little 10" .300 BLK that kicks the shit out of any SMG. Use something like a high pressure 9x25 Dillon and you can make it exactly the same size as an MP5 with massively superior ballistics.
With a bullpup Textron NGSW you could have a rifle the same length as a P90 with the same power as an M4 and the same ammo weight as a 9mm. It could replace all assault rifles, SMGs, and PDWs at once.

At any barrel length, 5.56 will push a heavier bullet the same speed, or faster, than 5.7x28

i like the idea of assault rifles designed to be used as an smg, especially since older smgs tend to weigh just as much or even more than them, and yet have the same rates of fire
