> “We have been very surprised at its effectiveness,” said Hayes (Raytheon Technologies' CEO), of the Patriot, which he said alongside other air-defense systems has intercepted as many as 90% of incoming threats in Ukraine. He said Ukraine has tweaked the Patriot’s software to enable it to track and destroy hypersonic missiles flying twice as fast as it was designed for.

WTF! All you need to defeat hypersonic missiles is a software update. Speed really is a meme?

    >The missile knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't. By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or deviation. The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the missile from a position where it is to a position where it isn't, and arriving at a position where it wasn't, it now is. Consequently, the position where it is, is now the position that it wasn't, and it follows that the position that it was, is now the position that it isn't.
    >In the event that the position that it is in is not the position that it wasn't, the system has acquired a variation, the variation being the difference between where the missile is, and where it wasn't. If variation is considered to be a significant factor, it too may be corrected by the GEA. However, the missile must also know where it was.
    >The missile guidance computer scenario works as follows. Because a variation has modified some of the information the missile has obtained, it is not sure just where it is. However, it is sure where it isn't, within reason, and it knows where it was. It now subtracts where it should be from where it wasn't, or vice-versa, and by differentiating this from the algebraic sum of where it shouldn't be, and where it was, it is able to obtain the deviation and its variation, which is called error.

It's from a 1997 air force training video. The transcript also popped up in multiple training documents. EG: https://www.afmissileers.org/Newsletters/NL1997Dec97.pdf
Apparently however this is the first time the audio was publicly released online: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VUrMuc-ULmM it seems some student got the original video when researching for a project and. Well. He decided the world needed to listen to the Chairforce's insane ramblings.

What the frick did you just fricking say about the missile you little b***h? I'll have you know the missile knows where it is at all times, and the missile has been involved in obtaining numerous differences, or deviations, and has over 300 confirmed corrective commands. The missile is trained in driving the missile from a position where it is, and is the top of arriving at a position where it wasn't. You are nothing to the missile but just another position. The missile will arrive at your position with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this earth, mark my fricking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit about the missile over the internet? Think again, fricker. As we speak the GEA is correcting any variation considered to be a significant factor, and it knows where it was, so you better prepare for the storm, maggot, the storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You're fricking dead, kid. The missile can be anywhere, anytime, and the missile can kill you in over 700 ways, and that's just by following the missile guidance computer scenario. Not only is the missile extensively trained in being sure where it isn't, within reason, but the missile also has access to the position it knows it was, and the missile will subtract where it should be from where it wasn't, or vice-versa, to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could've known what unholy retribution your little clever comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would've held your fricking tongue, but you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price you goddamn idiot. The missile will shit the deviation, and it's variation, which is called error, all over you, and you will drown in it. You're fricking dead, kiddo.

Why has no footage emerged of shooting down any hypersonic?

Why did the battery in Kiev need repair if it shot down the hypersonic?

The whole story sounds like bullshit that the company has an incentive to run with to help avoid hurting their stock value.

      >Why did the battery in Kiev need repair if it shot down the hypersonic?
did you know that if you shoot at things in the sky they come down? even if in pieces? and those pieces can hit things?
we've seen plenty of pictures of those pieces too.

We have also seen confirmed pieces of the Patriot being sold on the dark web afterwards, which implies it was blown to smithereens

The missile has to come down to the lower atmosphere where denser air will slow it down. Ballistic missiles are at their most vulnerable at the highest and lowest point of their arcs. All you need is a system that can plot an accurate intercept at one of these stages and you're good.

I mean, it's "only" a prediction issue, right? If you know in advance that the enemy missile will be at specific coordinates at a given time, destroying it shouldn't be too difficult.
