Was watching a lot of drone videos now and got a bit uneasy.
Let's pretend that (you) have been sent to the front lines in Ukraine, doesn't matter which side, doesn't matter which front exactly. Doesn't matter how you got there either.
Now, here you are, in a 1x1x1 meter hole with your AK and whatever else trash you got in your kit. A few friendlies scattered by your sides.
THE FRICK DO YOU DO?
Drones can come at any time and you don't want to spend your last few hours rolling around in absolute agony with half of your face and legs missing.
What would you lads do if you ended up in this situation?
>inb4 I wouldn't go
You're there already.
Pic related, can happen at any time.
build a roof
Pull a grenade and use it as a dead man's switch. What else can you do?
>get light injury from a drone
>in panic let the grenade go and it falls by your feet
>roll in agony as per usual
How? You have no radio, almost none of hole vatniks has one. Even if you do have your shitty baofeng, who are you going to call?
And mobiles are often confiscated. If you still have it there is a chance a drone is already heading your way due to triangulation of your signal.
Message AFU that I want to surrender, announce my coordinates.
russians poisoned the well so surrendering is like a 50/50 chance of horrible torture and death
No, deciding as a FPV drone is 2 seconds from impacting your butthole that you'd like to surrender gets you killed.
>youre infantry, wat do
follow orders, hope my superiors are competent.
if they arent, surrender if possible, otherwise die
Build overhead cover.
Shrugs and hope for the best, the drone lottery isn't 100 percent accurate, most of the videos we get are the ones which succeeded at hitting something.
>Build a roof
The problem is, with what materials, and even if you made it you will still have to face mortar and artillery attacks, what is more, chances are you will have to move out of your position depending on your unit task.
Ultimately it's all a matter of luck and what the higher ups decide.
>All right, all right, you get to have some access to supplies and unit coordination
Make turns to scan the skies with my teammates, have some semiautomatic shotguns along with whatever ARs they gave us, the moment you see something you start shooting and everyone too in the general direction.
Again, it's a matter of chances.
I'm confident that digging a grenade pit around the perimeter of my fighting position improves my odds of survival by about 40%
Poi~
do you morons not know about grenade sumps? its basic fighting position construction.
>dig a trench on either side of your hole
>grenade appears
>kick it to side A
>roll into side B
alternatively put the hole in the very middle and dig it as deep as you can. maybe it works and you get a concussion, maybe it doesn't completely do its job and you still catch some frag, but its better than doing nothing.
See
based fellow digging knower
Why don't we see that in this war?
because Russians are not truly white and are not possessed of the Aryan instinct to fortify his position, idk
Never been in the military, but I know situations where you're exhausted, tired, hungry, and just want to lie down and do your most basic responsibilities.
Seeing all these Russians lying in shitty foxholes ready to kill themselves at a drones notice makes me think less of the person in that hole and more of the situation they're in.
They're overworked, exhausted, probably only a snack left in their ration bag, and in a hopeless situation. You think they could just dig a few square feet and they'd be fine, but they're nut the same people they would be sitting inside on a comfy chair. It's sadder than calling them "moronic Mobiks".
Not*
This type of exhaustion isn't everything though. Even at persons last leg, they could probably do the minimum to survive, there are plenty of examples of people going through literal hell and coming out on the other side by pure willpower, but there's no chance these Russians have that.
They've known for months what's awaiting them. Demoralized even before putting on a uniform. I doubt they even care about what they're fighting for months in advance.
>grenade appears
>kick it to side A
>roll into side B
Are you watching the same drone videos that I am? The ones where they are dropping mortars that explode on impact? I don't think I have seen a single drone video where the soldier would have had time to kick the grenade away
They happen all the time

I've seen a lot of footage with just straight up grenades, obviously you're completely fricked in that scenario
no shit I'm a keyboard warrior, what else do you think is happening in a thread discussing a hypothetical situation? tongue my anus.
>they are dropping mortars that explode on impact
Mortars need a lot more velocity to arm properly
Impact grenades or whatever they may be, in the videos the instant kind don't do much visible damage
Just roll the frick into side B and or see pic related
You guys understand that with the drones they can just hover up from 5 or even less meters above those holes and see right to the right? There's videos of grenades dropped into similar holes like that.
Yes, we all fricking understand that. The entire point of the OP is "drones have made frontline trenches incredibly fricking hazardous, how would you improve your odds of survival". Nobody is claiming their design eliminates the danger, just makes you more likely to survive.
oh my god you are so fricking gay just shut up already
What is the higher priority?
Grenade sump or overhead cover?
R8 my fighting position
>sloped roof to dump traditional frags into sump
>spall shield to absorb VOG drops
>strong fishing line strung up between trees to snag FPV drones (nearly impossible for them to see)
>just dig for hours into frozen ground to prepare a position
>oops looks like your commander has just ordered you forward 100 feet, looks like you have to start all over again
>repeat
you guys are pure keyboard warriors.
What the frick do you want us to say then?
>bring a baseball bat
>knock the grenade away
>????
>PROFIT!!!
What they should be doing is dog proper fighting holes and cover them with tarpoulin and debris
It's not rocket science
The true horror is that the drone genie is out of the bottle. The IED drone could be used anywhere, even against you, in your civilian life. We live in a frightening age.
