Was Ted right about the industrial revolution and its consequences?
All sorts of mental illnesses are up, and people are less satisfied even those who lived in the haydays of 20ths century before the shitty economy of the late 20th up to modern days.

I've heard an argument that it is just evolution. We evolved for primitive hunter/agri living, and we're not built for modern society.
This will lead to a slow evolution of us being made for modern society.
I think we are developing way faster than evolution, and expect some collapse or stagnation, whether slow or fast, for evolution to catch up.
It will be unconscious, obviously, and just the result of human interactions.

Yeah, I got the IQ to make good life decisions.
I am talking about the average Joe. Millennials are the poorest and most mentally ill generation.

If the trend continues, then frick. Zoomers might be worse.
4chin autistic zoomers are not a good sample for all of genz.

ok if u want to talk about zoomers, then theyre screwed in a lot of ways like how technolgoy gives instant dopamine and unrealistic perspectives from social media. deliberate, thoughtful reading/thinking is being destroyed by technology. attention spans have decreased from 12 secs to 8 secs, https://time.com/3858309/attention-spans-goldfish/. as a society I think we are doing good. we just have to counter the negative effects of technolgoy and learn how to use its power properly instead of consooming and watching netflix all day long.

Its wild to think people used to have the memory power to pass down the odyssey or biblical oral traditions etc by word of mouth and now were talking about attentions spans measured in seconds.

I spent time in a mental ward and had nothing but a bible and paradise lost. I could memorize about 30 lines a day. And even now I can recite most of the first book of Paradise Lost off the top of my head. It's not hard to memorize texts if they're in verse, and committing yourself to memorizing a work makes you appreciate poetic structure and understand one of its purposes. It would've taken twice as long if it was prose, easily.

If I was given a year or so I think I could have all of paradise lost comfortably memorized. You could probably get yourself to 50 lines daily with studious memnomics.

My attention span is atrocious and zoom zoom tier as well. So like it's not as hard as people think or a skill unique to the ancients.

If I recall correctly, the oral traditions did cheat a bit with generic battles being memorized that only need names to be swapped out. Seem to recall reading one story of some Balkans oral traditions that was able to make up an epic using a journalist's name using a bunch of those generic scenes.

I think there's some truth to saying we're not living in an "ecosystem" we were adapted to thrive in to some degree.
The sheer amount of time people spend watching tv is just sad to me

The amount of people taking antidepressants, SSRI's and the like, 86k people died from opioid ODs last year and about half the country lives paycheck to paycheck and this was before a "flu pandemic".
Its bonkers out there bro. Burying your head in the sand or thinking happy thoughts doesnt make this go away.

      >life is good in the west anon.
Physically, in part. Mentally, no. Morally, absolutely not.
      >everyone can get a successful education
      No. Wrong.
Even if one has sufficient intelligence, many fail due to lacking discipline, which iss deeply rooted in the decadent state of contemporary society, such as lack of role models and cultural aspirations.
      >everyone should get a successful education
      No. Wrong.
PhDs, titles, funny academic hats, are all worthless. If it can't be used for monetary gain or cultural/political consensus, most research ends up nowhere. The "Brotstudium" (bread study) that Wilhelm von Humboldt warned us about has taken precedent over genuine commitment.
      >forget generalizing all of human society.
So he can instead let you generalize current human society?
      >you can choose to have a shitty life or a wonderful life.
Bad meme for your brain. I'm saying this because it's the "follow your passion"-type advice that pertains no meaning. You don't create the conditions that you are born in, your parents do. This is a great truth that people have forgotten in pursuit of never-ending egocentric self-finding trips.
      >modern technology allows you to have a much better and prosperous life than was possible in the past. and the peace is unparalleled.
That is true for every technology ever and every peace ever. After outliving several drawbacks, each did better than the last.

ok if u want to talk about zoomers, then theyre screwed in a lot of ways like how technolgoy gives instant dopamine and unrealistic perspectives from social media. deliberate, thoughtful reading/thinking is being destroyed by technology. attention spans have decreased from 12 secs to 8 secs, https://time.com/3858309/attention-spans-goldfish/. as a society I think we are doing good. we just have to counter the negative effects of technolgoy and learn how to use its power properly instead of consooming and watching netflix all day long.

True, the opportunity is greater now than ever. But certain aspects of life have certainly degraded as well. Take for instance the mystery that once was with the age of exploration, or the Victorian gentleman looking at a dog-eared map of Africa - the most of it uncharted and unknown. We have conquered much and moved forward but at the same time it means we can never experience certain somethings as well. To be at the cusp of great revolution or insight. Nowadays in science you have to be completely autistically driven and be of great intelligence to make any meaningful push forward and taste that excitement of intellectual discovery to name but one example.

A poor as shit person in a modern first world country can get better dental than fricking 1% of 1% Rockefeller could. It is literally just a matter of time before the rich person's QoL of today is one held by the poor.

What I don't understand about Ted is what on earth did he hope to accomplish by bombing those people he bombed? No-one knew is agenda so none could conform to it, and none could predict what would trigger an attack, so none knew what behaviour to change.
A bizarre circumstance indeed, to attack like he did and then expect his thesis to be taken seriously. If he had instead simply used his big-brain to push for and publish his works instead of exploding people surely his ideas would have been taken a lot more seriously?

IIRC he bombed people working at university's working on (at the time) cutting edge AI type research. He was basically targeting people who would make computers more integral in our daily lives.
I can see the method to his madness, but I also see with hindsight how fruitless it was

        >Are you assuming that a genius autist would have proper communication skills?
He wrote his thesis, knew how to communicate with academics. His self-exile was just that - self imposed, seemingly so he could carry out his bizarre bombing campaign which did much more to harm the emergent green movement.
He could very easily have been the RMS of the green movement.

Did he really believe it would work? If he's as smart as we think he is, I have to believe there was more motive to it, otherwise he's a fool to think that bombing some AI researchers (without knowing that computer work was the cause for their bombing too) would prevent computer work from happening and continuing.

A totally the bombings came first to "get peoples attention".
Heres the first paragraph from his wiki...

          >He witnessed the destruction of the wilderness surrounding his cabin and concluded that living in nature was untenable; he began his bombing campaign in 1978. In 1995, he sent a letter to The New York Times and promised to "desist from terrorism" if the Times or The Washington Post published his essay Industrial Society and Its Future, in which he argued that his bombings were extreme but necessary to attract attention to the erosion of human freedom and dignity by modern technologies that require mass organization.

Theres something about communication technology and even just dopamine stuff like games that makes people WAY more aggressive. Im old so ive seen the change firsthand.

Though i will say, nothing has come as worse as our current last two years. MASSIVE uptick in aggressive women and super-prostitutedom. Super gonnoreah is out now because of the super prostitutedom. Go on ticktok and its all YOUNG AS HELL girls getting naked to what can only be described as porn music. “Ride the curved dick” “big breasts little waist” that one song where the lady screams “BIG DICK DICK DICK” and the girls on tiktok record themselves screaming it too. What the frick is wrong with society. Ive seen girls do that “my wet pussy” song in front of their parents and the cuck dad just smiles and nods like a moron goof. Just smiles and preps the bull.

Sick and unbelievable, the workers should hve stayed poor.

The one thing Tes got wrong is that its not the tech, its the people. The tech only gives people a way to unleash their evil. But the evil is already there in the people.

So yes communications technology like the internet and cell phones and even widespread video games were big mistakes, should have put a ton of expensive licenses behind it all.

Then again, the internet was ~~*preplanned*~~ a full decade before it went public. And social media was too, from the 80’s. The israelites know what they’re doing.

    >I think we are developing way faster than evolution
This development IS evolution. Don't you understand? See "Genetic Pacification", both the papers on the Roman Empire and Western Europe and the Middle Ages.
Evolution sped up 100-fold through agriculture and it sped up even more via the Industrial Revolution.

In pre-industrial society, child mortality is at 40% and another 50% of the population don't reproduce because of other reasons (celibacy, inability to find partner, homicide, suicide, death in war, death due to disease, miscarriage and others). Effectively, only the genes of the fittest 10% survived. These were truly Darwinian conditions.
With industrial-level agriculture and medicine child mortality dropped to 1% and suddenly almost the entire population could successfully reproduce if it wanted to, even the "spiteful mutants".
What this means is that you have a bunch of mentally ill people that would have otherwise never survived constituting the majority of society. High mutational load of the body entails high mutational load of the mind, because the brain makes up roughly 84% of the human (autosomal) genome. This is why we have a rapid explosion in depression, ASD, schizophrenia, narcissism etc. and wacky political extremism.
The effect worsens because these mentally ill people reinforce their grip on society via environmental effects. For example, being in contact with depressed people can cause depression.

All in all, this is why industrial society sucks so much. Though no worry, we've been through this before. This is also what the early aftermath of transition from hunting&gathering to pastoralism&agriculture felt like; lots of wacky religions/ideologies, degeneracy, new sense of property, lots of immigration etc.

There are two archetypes that defy such trends and cause stability. High-IQ autists&religious people. They will inevitably return balance to (industrial) society as especially the latter have the most reproductive success.

The real redpill is that what people do for recreational purposes (hunting, fishing, hiking, etc.) is what people did to exist before civilization.
Basically society is the sacrifice of joy for stability.

The industrial revolution is just another mistake piled on the agricultural revolution.
We are literally the physically deformed and mentally ill versions of our hunter-gatherer ancestors.

It happened too quickly for society to adapt to it so we are suffering some shock from it but it's an evolution in one of the most humane things that exist, that is to control the environment and adapt it to our needs.

Maybe climate change will ruin everything but it was worth the risk. We can't live medieval for ever, that's antihuman to stop development
