I remember when war was fought by men. Now war is fought by algorithms designed to enslave entire populations. Imagine millions of zoomers constantly cooming and scrolling away. Shits fricked
>Yeah what if you miss or the guy had a shield/helmet?
Arrows at the time wouldn't do anything either, which is why slingers were really good at skirmishing since It would force the enemy infantry into a "shield wall/testudo", thus "suppressing" them and slowing them down whilst allowing friendly troops to do something else (outmanuver the enemy, take a position on a hilll...)
Romans loved their slingers since they could achieve the same suppression effect of more expensive archers without having to worry about ammo (rocks vs arrows)
>What if you use your weapon and you miss?
That's not even an argument moron >What if he had a shield
I wonder why slings were used over several centuries if all you needed to stop them was a shield? >helmet
Yeah mate your iron helmet will help a lot when a lead projectile hits it at close to 200km/h
You are a lot smarter than all those slingers that were able to kill and suppress people with their slings over hundreds of years.
>The horse-archers were forced into close-quartered combat against the legionaries and suffered heavily for it, for they were unsuited for such combat. The Parthian cavalry's will eventually broke and panic spread, many of the horse archers being driven down the slope where they crashed into their fellows in their desperation to escape. The horse-archers eventually fled or fell. Parthian heavy cavalry, which was stationed at the bottom of the hill, was enveloped and surrounded by the legionaries. Instead of immediately attacking with the legionaries, >Ventidius made use of his slingers to rain down projectiles on the Parthian heavy cavalry, which included Pacorus himself. After the barrage was lifted the legionaries moved in and were quickly able to identify Pacorus because of his standard and expensive armour. Pacorus was eventually slain along with his bodyguards, and the remaining cavalry broke and attempted to flee from their entrapment, which not all managed to do. Overall the Roman army had achieved a complete victory.[4]

If you'd hit the helmet at that speed you may not die, but you would definitely be knocked out. Shields are effective, but the reload and aim time for the sling is small and so they can shoot multiple shots while screening an advancing infantry column, and if one would eventually hit you'd definitely be a casualty. Plus, ammo is little to no issue. While they did make their own munition out of iron, they would also just pick up rocks once they ran out of the ammo. Bows need arrows and crossbows need bolts. So there's definitely a benefit for slings compared to bows and crossbows.
I'm actually surprised slings aren't used more during riots, I guess it takes a little more pre-planning than picking up a stick and you could have difficulty getting a clearing to swing and throw at speed, but otherwise it's prefect. Easily concealable and smuggleable, ammunition is anything decently heavy that fits into it, and it'll do serious damage if it hits something besides the shield. Riots are where we can find great modern adaptations of medieval and ancient tactics
Riots are basically just larp battles, like those seasonal tribal wars in Africa. No one's there to accomplish anything or do any real damage, it's just about chanting and beating your chest and throwing a few rocks at shit, setting a gas station on fire, Black person shit.

Late Roman army is where SOVL peaked. It's been downhill ever since.
>gets shot by bodkin arrow
>gets stabbed by a spear
Kilts are for neckbeards
Slings are cool
Yeah what if you miss or the guy had a shield/helmet? You load as slow as a crossbow probably. Fricked at that kind of range.

Apparently a slingshotted rock could pierce through a helmet, or dent It badly so you'll still get a head injury and incapacitate you.
that might be the bigger ones. they tended to use smaller ones that they could fit multiple of into a sling and just shotgun blast the enemy with.

Cope. Slings were only used because bows are expensive to manufacture. Theres a reason why slings were phased out and made obsolete.

shut the frick up crassus
Thanks for admitting they were not only a sufficiently effective weapon for the defences at the time, but also a more economic weapon.
>Theres a reason why slings were phased out and made obsolete.
Slings are literally still in use
Wow
Slings saw use in Europe all the way into the era of gunpowder, though staff slings were more common as you got away from the Mediterranean.
Blunt force trauma bypasses helmets and armor unlike arrows which needs to penetrate in order to do any damage
These were used in formations of skirmishers as support. Is a battle, not a duel.
BTW those guys used metal bullets more often than not.
Do not underestimate 10 men chucking small chunks of lead at hundreds of miles per hour in your general direction, even more when using a sling staff.

Closes the distance and hacks away
Goliath was still a punk b***h
No, it hasn't, don't you know epic maymays, you boomer?
Can’t you read?
Slings had basically created a nonstop warfare

dumbfricks would hit eachother for sure.
keep in mind the kind of people that have been rioting.
oh they definitely would, but just like the suicide molotovs if it only backfires 5% of the time you still don't want to be on the other side of it.
