If you already have a semi-auto handgun that works than having another won't change your life in the slightest

      Neither will a sword.

Is your price range going to be the same for both or will you spend more on one rather than the other?

      >Oakeshott Type XVIIIb
      >Walther P99 gen 2
      Those are the options

Price is nearly exactly the same.

Then just get the handgun and put money aside for a nicer sword later

Get a gun, then shoot a swordsman and take his sword.

I just like them. I wouldn’t buy one that wasn’t made decently well thought. I’m looking at options from Darksword and Windlass

both junk that will break easily. If you want a REAL sword save up a little bit more and buy an Albion sword.
Very high quality, durable, and ready for "real world" use. They're like nearly 1000 per sword and you have to wait a year if you want a custom made sword. They have some premades that are still nice though

The issue I have with Albion is that they don’t come with sheaths and they want nearly the price of the sword for one. They do seem nice but I can’t do $2200+ for a sword and sheath right now.

Actually it looks like the Mercenary by Albion is less than $900 and I could get a sheath made for less than $300

go for it bro, you won't be disappointed. Albion is the kind of top tier shit a real knight would use

The Albion has a 16-20 month wait. I’m going to go ahead and buy the Walther and put a deposit in on the Albion.

if you are a eurogay, look a eastern yurop blacksmith
they make sparring sword for HEMA for quite cheap (bought mine 200€)
finished might not be incredible, and you'll have to hone it yourself, but its made to hit stuff with (actual combat sword)
as for the sheat you can now invest your money in it
look for medieval fest often there is craftsmen there

windlass is good though, especially their royal armouries line
i dont know what happened exactly, but suddenly all the factory made swords started catering to people who care more about accuracy and durability rather than cool looking sword hangers

Windlass isn't great, but break easily is not a problem they have

From what I've heard they're kinda middle of the road quality, but I've never had one myself because I don't want to deal with putting an edge on it myself just because Italy has some autistic law about exporting sharp blades

Kult of Athena has a sharpening service, idk how good it is though.

                Mediocre
Like, it's "sharp" and you could probably cut something with it if tried really hard but it's really only useful as a way to get a start on making a better edge but you're still having to do a lot yourself

Speaking of swords, any anons out there got a rusty, fricked up, heavily corroded antique sword?
I find myself in need of restoration projects. Excavated condition, river finds, unstabilised lumps of rust. That sort of thing.

either way, you shouldnt cheap out, get something atleast $500
I know a guy selling pic rel for $1300
(an albion squire, which is 1k on its own, so the scabbard with it and the upgraded leather grip is 300)

That really may be a fair price if the blacksmith is skilled and the skill went into making the decorated sheath as well. It's the responsibility of the craftsman, to the weapon builder, to be fair.

This one was bought for 100 shillings, a shilling is 20 so that's 5 pounds total, a pretty low price for a israeliteeled sword, and a ceremonial sale for the symbol redemption of the sword

It is for the king to defend against iniquity and evil in the name of Lord Jesus Christ from what I've learned

The king may have a nice sword but I just work with what I got. These are for gardening mostly.

jeweled swords and gilded armor weren't meant to actually be used on a battlefield, but to let the enemy know that the wearer was wealthy and worth the effort to ransom, and not just kill immediately

Collecting swords is addicting as frick. Just like shooty bois.

  10. 10 months ago

Assuming you have neither, I would get the pistol first and then a wooden sword to swing around (bokken/bokuto) and save up for a quality sword that won’t loose 1/2 it’s value once you get it.

You should buy more ammunition for the guns you already own. If you already have enough ammo (and you will *never* have "enough"), then you should prioritize buying more magazines and other accessories along with high performance replacement components. If you now own more rifles than handguns, then you should buy a handgun. If you have more handguns than rifles, then you should start buying bladed weapons such as swords & axes, optionally along with archaic armour or at least some period specific regional clothing & footwear so that you can LARP @ Ren Faires.

:,( <-- mfw sad cuz too much of a lazy fricking stoner to bother going to the ren faire with muh oakeshotte type xiv arming sword strapped to my side and some non-period bullshit attire

      Anonymous

      >high performance replacement components
lol I don’t put aftermarket shit that may or may not be in spec or adversely affect reliability. I already have several pistols and rifles though so I was leaning sword. I’m probably just going to put down a deposit since the wait on Albions is so long.

      get the walther

This is like saying "I want a new synthesizer. I also want a new violin. Help me choose"
homie, I'm not you. You decide what you want. Yeah I can say "Well a synthesizer is more useful because..." but it doesn't matter what I think.

Synthesizer is objectively the right answer though.
