Updated AUG just dropped.

Most importantly it will be offered in 300 Blackout. Am I interested in this being my first bullpup?

      >cantilever
      >oh jee woweee they now add some side rails from factory
      >brass deflector
Wow great job Aug, you've caught up to the 1990s!
Were there any other meaningful updates?

They are not the same rifle.
Picture in the OP is the M2, which is a flattop which we probably won't get in the states for a long time.
Hence the lack of deflector and hand guard on the PSA side

Does it have a CHF CL barrel?

      Nope

Guns that aren't bullpups, or aren't as light, or don't have rails, or can't swap the barrel rapidly, yeah.

      >yeah man it's better to have to take off a hanguard than an adjustable block that's easily accessible like 99% of firearms that have an adjustable system
      >yeah man it's better cause it can swap barrels instead of an upper which can have pre zeroed gear on it or other systems that also have barrel swaps
      >yeah man 99% of competing firearms don't have rails

You just slide it off in a couple seconds. You'd take more time removing the suppressor.

      >yeah man it's better to have to do a partial disassembly after your gun starts getting dirty with a can and stops running right and need to tune gas to make up for it especially in a combat situation

I think the Aug is a fine rifle(besides it's trigger mechanism), but the way you cope cracks me the frick up.
Lighter/shorter? Sure I'll give you that. Nothing else you listed was a benefit.

        Anonymous

        >pre zeroed gear on it
The nu-AUG's rails are 3, 9 and 6 oclock. The top rail is permanent and thus you don't lose zero from replacing the handguard.

What operations are you doing that require constant, immediate gas setting changes? Reloading a mag takes more time than taking off the rails on the nu-AUG. Stop projection-coping.

          >changing barrels doesn't affect poi shift
          >changing caliber doesn't affect poi shift
          >hasn't shot a rifle long enough where carbon fouling(which is even more exasperated by a can) or other dirt/sand/clay situations requiring more gas, especially when it forces you to manually cycle action
          >even more so for mil armory guns which are prefricked by nature
You're either a nogunz, a moron, or haven't been shooting a long time.
Like I said I like the aug even with it's issues, buddy has a a3m1 and it's decent probably snagging one myself in a year or two. But it is not a superior platform by any stretch, more of a sidegrade.

Who said it doesn't? Sounds like you're strawmanning.

            >mil armory guns
They don't even use suppressors. Australian AUGs were more reliable than the M4 in Afghanistan, by the way.

              >checked
              >strawmanning
homie my statement was maintain zero for the upper and glass and accessories and you were the one that swapped to rail zero only which again, would still be affected by a caliber change or barrel length change.
Yes they were more reliable than the m4, no doubt about that still ran into similar issues where an adjustable gas block would have helped(same with the m4s).
              >don't even use suppressors
Do you know why? :^), I'll give you a hint, the aug was a shit suppressor host, which is why they moved to the adjustable gas block system in order to better support it.
You asked why you'd need to adjust gas in a setting, and I gave you real world examples of when you would.
Having a removable design to access it is a shit design, period, full stop, end of discussion. This goes for any firearm with an adjustable gas block you have to do a disassembly to access, not limited to the aug. Even DesertTechs systems are kinda crap as it's a window to adjust it vs it being easily accessible.
Shit even the chinks have been doing it since the 90s with the qbz95 or whatever the frick it's called.

Your statement was about a loss of zero in relation to removing the rails. The implication being that you were referring to LAMs. The nu-AUG doesn't have a problem with that. If you were talking about swapping caliber barrels, then any weapon will see a zero shift just from the change in muzzle velocity.

                Anonymous

Correct, besides changing uppers that are prezeroed on ar platforms. There will always be microscopic shifts depending on receiver mating but we're talking less than a 1/4moa, I've had good luck on repeat tests for shiggles.
Sorry I should have specified, was referring to the removable barrel aspect. That's on me.

                Anonymous

I see. Carrying a single barrel > carrying a whole upper with extra set of rail accessories, though. We can deal with the zero shift if we get good with our optics or use the new sig optic with 2 separately zeroed dots.

                Anonymous

Depends on usecase and situation imo, reason why most sof groups use the ar platform is quick swap uppers in kit lockers for ease of swap prior to mission or role.
Civie side not so much of an application unless you have a preban lower or poor/buying a super gucci lower and just want to swap top ends. As we usually just buy extra rifles even if they fullfill the similar or slightly different role.
Aug's limited for obvious reasons so I won't hold that against it as it does have an easily swapped barrel which you'll still want to re-zero imo or at least to a 3 round spot check for a new hold at 100(or 25/28/50/52/whatever zero you normally do).

This is a replacement aug trigger pack that takes a cut down (shoe and stop removed) metal trigger. It lowers the pull and pre-travel. I am trying to tune out the remainder by messing with the adjustable engagement point.

Same with the Mini 14 300 blk. It wouldn't look bad but that fat barrel is hilarious. Which is a shame because a quiet silenced mini would be neat.

  24. 2 weeks ago

I've always had a soft spot for the AUG, but at this point I fundamentally believe that Steyr deserve bankruptcy. The AUG has to be the most mismanaged rifle you can buy, those .300 barrels have existed for over half a decade and they are only now coming to the biggest AUG market; and they're only doing that because somebody tried it over here (heresy group). Exact same story with the MSAR, they weren't interested in producing AUGs in the US until somebody else did it and suddenly they're setting up a factory. That kind of complacency, only lifting a finger when you have to; just cant last in the current gun market. Its crazy to me that people constantly b***h about H&K mistreating their civilian customers when H&K guns and parts are pretty attainable for a steep price, when you've got these motherfrickers over the border who treat the civilian market with open contempt.
