Unarmed Knife Defense

TLDW: Self-defense experts prove that training for unarmed defense against a knife attacker is as much BS as training to dodge bullets. You can try to RNG your way out of death, but you WILL get stabbed and you WILL probably die.

Yea no shit, run if you can, beg for your life if you can.
Not the time to try to prove anything.

    >can't use your teeth
The scenario is kind of fricked when you're able to hug someone in a fight for death like that.

    We should ban knives.

We already did one better - we banned stabbing people with knives!

To be fair they probably did fair better than had they not been decent fighters and the attackers were certainly not your average chav.

consider that the average knife mugger should just be surrendered to (obviously assuming you don't have a gun) and will not try to sewing machine stab you to death for no reason. these also tend to be the scariest ones as they will be fit young black men.

so who is the average "knife attacker" outside of that? basically white schizos and mexicans under drug psychosis in the US, and smalltime muslim terrorists in Europe.

the exercise in OP is a struggle between two trained martial artists. that's not actually a realistic situation. the average "knife attacker" is a man of average, potentially below average physical ability. they have almost no skill or training in striking, grappling, or intelligent use of their weapon. they have a small gas tank and unimpressive arm strength.

this changes the entire dynamic. imagine joe average schizo dealing with a former varsity athlete that has been training in an MMA gym and has some knife defense theory under his belt. when he grabs the schizo's arm, it will be completely dominated. when he trips the schizo, he will fall.

i'm not saying it will be easy, but its very far from impossible. in terms of practical self-defense, this is why you train. you do not train so that you can get into 50/50 outcome fights with other trained fighters. you train because the majority of men are physically pathetic. so if you are trained, you might as well understand something about the principles behind unarmed knife defense. if you are joe average yourself, then yes, simply knowing these things will be of very limited use (though slightly better than knowing nothing at all)

If they're crazy and don't know self preservation they will do something dumber than your lowest expectation when it matters most.
Not to be defeatist about it of course, just watch out.

      imagine an ordinary average man.
Imagine him being supplex, hip throw or uchi-mata on concrete floor.

Can I say that I did that because of self defense?

      Yeah, this.
With both parties of equal training then knife has much upper hand.
But if one unnarmed party is much stronger and trained he has good chance with proper technique (going to knife hand grab and control with two hands than wrestling from there).

      >the exercise in OP is a struggle between two trained martial artists. that's not actually a realistic situation.

What special stabbing techniques and demonstrations of physical prowess did you see the knife attacker use in the first few seconds of each round?

it's nothing so complicated. have you ever wrestled someone much weaker than you, like a girl? that's the difference between a strong man and a normal man. the strong man grabs the normal man's arm, and suddenly that arm is going to have a ton of trouble doing anything useful. get two arms on that arm and it's even more true. whereas a man with strength close to yours, even if they are a little weaker, would have a knife arm that is very hard to control.

likewise on the ground, someone trained in grappling is going to swim all over you if you have no ability in it, especially if there is a serious strength differential. but these guys are all strong and they all know how to grapple, so even when they get taken down the progress tends to stall out. and they are similarly fit, so during this 100% output mortal struggle they take that much longer to gas+lose strength than a normal person would.

there's no "special stabbing techniques" but a schizo also won't for example have the wherewithal to sneakily pass their knife from one hand to the other in the middle of wrestling a trained person, which does happen in this video.

Yeah, knives are a complete gamble to fight against unless you have something way bigger and know how to use it

Not true. I saw a Black person try to stab a dude outside a bar one time - drew the knife, charged full pelt at the dude ready to sewing machine him, dude stepped like a foot to the side to dodge the charge and KOed the Black person with a single punch to the chin. Then proceeded to stomp the nig's head for a good 30 seconds while I stood in the background trying to flirt with girl over the sounds of skull bouncing off concrete.

    >Self-defense experts

He'll get b***h if you call him that. He's just an MMA coach with some understanding of hand to hand fighting, but his specialty is ultimately comabt sports (which is like a game). He will say that what self-defense teachers teach is hogwash, but won't venture into what to replace that with implying there are no simple easy answers.

Really cool idea - I think they should score by least amount of stab attacks. There were clearly some who did better than others. The goal should be to challenge and get the score lower and lower each time. It's a bit of a game.

Woah woah. Don't come at me like that pussy. Do you have any fricking idea who I am? This board isn't completely comprised of mouth-breathing trannies living in their mommy's basement... Some of us are former special operators. I formerly served in devgru's special psyop cyber unit. I could have access to your porn search history in under 20 secs if I wanted to. Bee careful whose toes you step on... you might get stung and find yourself in hypodermic shock without an eppy pen.

regardless of your own skill or the attackers skill, if they have a weapon and you don't, you're at a huge disadvantage. The people who claim otherwise are the same people that claim they can fight a grizzly bear and win

I love knives and all, spent hundreds of dollars collecting them, carry one all the time and consider it my favorite tool. But that's all it is, a tool. I'm not moronic enough to think I should use it as a weapon instead of simply running/using a gun.
