Ukraine is buying 40 F-18's from Australia. Are they a good choice? IMO Su-35's will have a field they with these old pieces of JUNK.

>F/A-18
>good choice?
Frick yeah.
It's supposed to be 41 airframes, and they're reported to be well-maintained & upgraded. They will be a very nasty surprise to anyone in the world who encounters them. Very little is peer, and it takes something like an F-22 or F-35 to have clear, overwhelming superiority in a fighter-on-fighter engagement.
In addition to that, the F/A-18 has a wide range of configurations, so very flexible for different missions. It's designed for very short take-off & landing space, so (Ukraine, for example) only needs a short piece of undamaged highway or equivalent to put them down or put them up.
There are parts and airframes available for cannibalization out the ass all over the world. Trained mechanics can keep these flying into the 2050s or even a bit longer. Just outstanding value from every angle.
>well-maintained & upgraded
Nope, RAAF kept using their old Non-Super Hornets for the Gulf3/Daesh overflights.
Thousands of flight hours, frickall bombs dropped, but they didnt rotate in any SuperBug squadrons as they wanted to put all the wear&tear on the old frames.
Yes but remember, dickhead, unlike basically any other Hornet fleet in the western world, the RAAF replaced the centre-barrels so they actually have time left on the airframes.
These are legacy hornets, so shorter range, less payload, mechanically scanned radar. However, still a significant improvement over their current fighter inventory.
Nice. Cheaper in a pack with NATO rocket DLC's.
>untested modern weapons
like what? the newest thing i can think of are switchblades
Untested in the sense that they weren't used before against an actively aggressive enemy. HIMARS, for instance wasn't used for anything besides bombing towelheads before the Ukraine war.
HIMARS getting to shine makes this whole war worthwhile.
First I heard of HIMARS was as a top tier artillery unit in People's General in 1998. I used to use that little shit exclusively
Holy fricking shit I played the frick out of that game. That, M1 Tank Platoon II and Civ II occupied a lot of my 1998 lol. I turned a lot of Chinese into Good Chinese with HIMARS
>IMO Su-35's will have a field they with these old pieces of JUNK.
>field they
the russian airforce is nonbinary now?
It's transitioning. Don't bully.
Australian F/A-18 should be given given to Malaysia while Malaysia passes on their Fulcrums to Ukraine
no months of training or new logistics burden on ukraine
rmaf wins (spares/extra plane)
uaf wins (extra plane)
raaf wins (disposal cost)
usmc wins (they can buy kuwaiti spares too)
china loses
They're not fit for Malaysia's needs, since the f-18s are near the end of their usable flight hours. If I was Malaysia, I'd still send the fulcrums, but try to cut a deal with the US for a discount on some new block 70 f-16s.
you won't get shit maling shit
indonesia pasti menang
Frick off you plate-faced beggar c**t.
Malaysia doesn't have Fulcrums (MiG-29)
they have 18 Su-30MKM
Ukraine doesn't operate those, but I imagine they aren't too different form Su-27 which Ukraine does know, so it should work if what you said is true
Malaysia has mig-29s in storage
The mig-29 was junk
Malaysia didn't bother upgrading them and just retired them
Interesting observation, from none other than the Israelis themselves, for those of you bastard on /k/ who tend to dismiss the MiG-29:
https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/israels-secretive-mig-29-fulcrum-test-program
>“Against the F-15 and F-16, the Soviet-designed jet was found to be a “serious opponent,” superior in certain scenarios to the Israeli fighters.”
Leak photo showed US piloted F-22 “shot” down by a Malaysian piloted Mig-29 during the recent Exercise Cope Taufan in Malaysia. The photo showed the F-22 failed to radar jam the Mig and was releasing flares to avoid missile lock-on by the Mig-29, but was later nailed by cannon fire instead.
It was reported the Mig was piloted by a Malaysian pilot who claimed the F-22 was in ambush mode while going stealth (in passive mode) with no radar emission and using a F-15 to bait the Malaysian jets, but he could detect it with the new Russian radar installed.
The biggest challenge is the difference in operational philosophy between Malaysia and Soviet Union. MiG-29N is basically export variant of MiG-29 with upgraded radar. The Migs had shorter TBO considering how extensive they were used by the RMAF compared to what is expected with aircraft made during soviet union era. The Migs also had shorter range and drop tank had to be installed, which compromised its maneuverability(as designated air superiority aircraft in RMAF) Not only that, the migs also have very limited air to ground capability
Malaysia tried to address these shortcoming with Su-30MKM. The flankers are better built, have extensive air to ground as well as air to air capability and compatible with RMAF's mostly-western equipments, but that also had its own challenges since it took quite some time until they had the western equipment/russian aircraft integration issue sorted out.
Wait doesn't the mig29 not have aesa or even pesa?
>Interesting observation, from none other than the Israelis themselves, for those of you bastard on /k/ who tend to dismiss the MiG-29:
The MiG-29 is a no legs trash toy fighter for wannabe nations. Awful engines, awful external carriage options, awful avionics, no room for upgrades. There's a reason it got its teeth kicked in in the export market. Flanker is better and more cost effective in every respect, Mirage-2000 runs circles around it as a mud mover, F-16 is cheaper and better equipped (AMRAAM actually works and the R-77 doesn't lmao).
Spoiler ALERT: You put EO/IR and HOBS on literally _any_ jet fighter with an afterburner (eg an F-20 would eat the MiG-29 for lunch) and they become deadly, because WVR is a chainsaw fight in a telephone booth.. See AIMVAL/ACEVAL Hence HOBS got ditched and the AMRAAM was developed. Fast forward to the present day where every MiG-29 has been swatted with ease in every engagement with AMRAAM equipped western fighters because real life isn't some sky knight turn fight bullshit.
The Flanker and Fulcrum do 2 different mission profiles in Ukraine. You'll typically see the Migs firing HARM missiles, while Su-27s do bombing missions and shahed clearing missions.
In the context of the Russian Air Force, it's competing with comparable aircraft, hence how they've survived for so long.
>HARM missiles
you know what the "m" in "HARM" stands for, right, right?
Fine, then. HARM issiles.
Contrary to what people say, Malaysia bought russian and american aircraft out of necessity, not simply because of shit and giggles. For years malaysia had been denied access to more modern aircraft because the US is playing favorites with singapore, philippines and thailand. At one point they just said "frick this" and went to the russian instead. America putting both Indonesia and Pakistan under military sanction really spooked Malaysian decisionmaker hence why they're willing to buy russian made equipment which is generally cheaper and russia is willing to accept almost anything as payment.
>Malaysia wanted more F/A-18
>Malaysia looking for second hand USN/USMC F/A-18
>Uncle Sam said no. Instead offered up F/A-18F
>Malaysia tempted to buy F/A-18F but didn't want to surrender their existing F/A-18D as part of buyback option
>Deal went dead
>Suddenly US came back and "hinted" that they may export F-35 for Malaysia if they could permanently stationed their F-15/F-16 in Malaysia because reasons.
>Malaysia said "take that F-35 of yours and shove it up your ass" subtly
Til now American suffering loses because Malaysian opened the market gate for Russian and European arms sales on SE Asia and destroying the American arms sales monopoly.
>The mig-29 was junk
Only if you don't know how to cook it. See: MiG-29MU2
Only if the US should give Malaysia F-35/F-15EX/F-18F in exchange. Su-30MKM are known as South East Asia most Advanced and Heavy Flanker and are more valuable than standard Flanker because Malaysia has already upgraded to use Western weapons. So Ukranian pilots do not need to be retrained to fly them (unlike F-16) due to similarity with UAF's Su-27, but can still use Western supplied munitions including crucially JDAM and Paveway.
SU-30MKM avionics and its weapons system were mixed between Western Block & Eastern Block. Malaysian SU-30MKM are the only Sukhoi SU-30 series that capable of using Sidewinder, Paveway and JDAM. Currently RMAF is able do do SEAD with Su-30MKM + Kh-31P. SU-30MKM "Growlerski" is also the first ECM/EW Sukhoi platform designed and build outside Russia.A multi-role platform with SAP-518 ECM pod and mix of SAP-14 jamming pod is considered similar to the United States ALQ-99 jamming system installed on the EA-6B Prowler and EA-18G Growler. Funny thing is the Russian are following Malaysian example that successfully integrated Russian-Western technology into their SU-30MKM.
Yeah but Malaysia is a shitshow who can't afford their own air force - I doubt you'd be able to tell the difference between the decaying human shit in the wienerpit from the decaying rat shit. No way those aircraft would be maintained anywhere near an acceptable level to put them into combat, best to use the Malays as a sponge in the event of a war with China
t. a racist idiot who has no idea about Malaysia
You're probably talking to an Indonesian.
>any thread mentions australian f/a-18s
>this malay Black person starts screeching that they're not getting our gibs
EVERY
TIME
This sounds like a pretty good idea, even if the F18s are better there's a lot to be said for a fulcrum useable now vs. an F18 useable after a year of pilot training
Frick OFF Malaygay holy shit, buy your own hardware.
Isn't that what he's trying to do?
Just buying it by trading goods rather than money.
A large amount of Malaysia's air force (the Sukhois and Migs) were actually partially paid for through the barter of palm oil
>a field they
Are these bugs or super bugs?
If they gave them the jamming pods that could be pretty huge for being able to operate in contested air space. Obviously they won't use the Growler, but they have older ones IIRC.
Regular bugs, but the most upgraded ones.
>Ukraine is buying....
Bullshit.
Ukraine hasn't spent a shekel on anything except Hunter Biden's 'expert business assistance'.
They'll be begging Australia to gift them, plus extra cash to pay for parts or something...
The whole Ukie defence is just part of the financial scam.
What weapons would be delivered next after ATACMS? I want to see miles of dead ziggoids.
>The whole Ukie defence is just part of the financial scam.
Source.
>Sauce:
Cash and free weapons going in.
No cash being used to buy weapons.
= Suitcases of cash somewhere.
Probably some more cash from selling donated weapons.
Why instead of providing source of what you said in previous post you pushed some new agenda without back up?
That's not how it works unless you count the charities. When a country gives Ukraine cash, it's like a voucher that they can only spend on what the donation is meant for. Say humanitarian or military aid. The cash is held by the donating country until Ukraine says "we're buying this right now".
>Source
The reputable Donald J. Trump
Don't care, kills Russians.
>Incel Z told me so.
>a field they
canada almost bought these instead of f-35s
AFAIK Canada did buy some Australian F-18s to hold them over until F-35.
No downed hohol aircraft in the copefensive yet, fixed or rotary? Right when they need close ground attack?
So this is just another cash grab huh? Some scrap that won't ever be used, but will definitely be paid for?
Su-24s and Su-25s are still flying for Ukraine.
The Hornets will do fine.
Very little air to air.
If anything they'll bait Russian air to air with the Hornets and kill them with patriots and nasams.
The main thing is Ukraine gets more air assets up.
Plus U.S. navy, Canadian, Australian and Spanish air force can keep them supplied with Hornet spare parts
>Su-24s and Su-25s are still flying for Ukraine.
Source?
Internet videos and pictures
Ukrainian su-25 still making rocket and gun runs
Ukrainian su-24 is what they used to fire the recent storm shadows
Dumb Russians didn't eliminate the Ukrainian air force like they claimed
If the Ukrainians are still flying their mig-29, su-24, su-25 and helicopters, they can fly hornets
Su-24 flying with storm shadow
It’s only worth it if they’re also getting all the required maintenance tools and parts. If they have to purchase that separately then they’ll just end up grounded.
US Navy
US Marines
Finnish Air Force
Canadian Air Force
Spanish Air Force
Australian Air Force
Have or had F/A-18 Hornets
U.S., Canada, Finland, Spain and Australia all are supplying or have supplied Ukraine with some weapons
Hornet spare parts won't be a problem
I love field theys
some will be shot down
but so also were su34.
such is war
>Su-35's will have a field they with these old pieces of JUNK.
>the poor craftsman always blames his tools
The pilots make the difference.
Lol ESL have fun getting dabbed on by Western leftovers yet again.
>a field they
It's "day" Pytor and Su-57 can't even handle F-14 so F-18s are more than enough
>t. a racist idiot who has no idea about Malaysia
Hornets are singularly well-suited to the current needs of the UAF. It has short landing distances and rugged gear, perfect for operating off the rough airstrips and highways they are using.
And that's before you get to its versatile weapons load. Strap some anti-ship missiles to them and the Black Sea Fleet may well have to frick off back to Russia.
The are better than the old Migs and Flankers they have now
It they use them to perform strike missions they should be extremely valuable but they should stay away from any CAP roles. Supposedly they are getting grippens from Sweden soon which would be perfect for that especially if they they are armed with meteors. That, in my mind, would be the best way forward for the ukies. Meteor armed Grippens performing CAP while legacy F-16s and F-18s conduct strike missions unmolested
Give Malaysia what ever they can maintain, but demand basing rights for a squadron of B-2, 21, 1, and F-35.
