I love that the April fools joke is that we are ordering a 3rd Aircraft carrier, since the reality is that we got two carriers that we can't fully staff or equipment, and they keep having major breakdowns even though their brand new, and the 2nd carrier almost got scrapped straight away and the government keep threatening to do it.
Having a 3rd one is beyond absurd at this stage.

Why not just do what the Marines and Japan did

      Anonymous

      >Why not just do what the Marines and Japan did
Because that would be too logical. The QE's have always been a vanity project. The UK could have had 3-4 LHDs for the price of 2 QEs which would give them
      >The airpower they originally wanted
      >Much better readiness
      >Manpower requirements that could actually be met
      >A fix to their shitty amphibious capabilities
Instead they have a class of ships that addresses none of their problems while being a massive logistics sink.

        Anonymous

        Lets break it down.
        >3-4 at cost of 2 QEs
        WASP class $2.2bn (capacity for 20 F35)
        QE cost $3.5bn (Capacity for 70 F35)
Yeh you could have 3 worse ships for less i guess.
        >Airpower
Less Aircraft Less ammuntion stowage etc etc.
        >Readiness
        Le dailyfail meme
        >Manpower
        WASP crew 1080
        QE crew 760
Why would the RN want a shitty 'not a carrier' with worse equipment and that requires a much larger crew despite being 25k tonnes smaller?

Not that I necessarily agree with

          >Why not just do what the Marines and Japan did

, but you missed the amphibious capability part.

Buy amphibious assault ships not quazi jack of all trades masters of none. Unless you already have full size carriers its a non starter.
QEs plus Mistrals would be infinatly better than 5 wasps

          >QE
          >Capacity of 70 F-35s
Max F-35 capacity of a QE is 36.

There are 57 spots for F-35s, 24 in the hangar and 33 on deck, with room for landing and takeoff. However, it would hamper smooth flow of operations, and the AEW Merlins would have to be hosted on other ships e.g. RFA Argus.

            >Why not just do what the Marines and Japan did
Because that would be too logical. The QE's have always been a vanity project. The UK could have had 3-4 LHDs for the price of 2 QEs which would give them

Instead they have a class of ships that addresses none of their problems while being a massive logistics sink.

Everything you said is totally wrong.
Don't express an opinion on this subject ever again.

Congratulations, and thank you for reading the whole article; this is just an April Fools Day joke. The article above is not true, and if anyone is sharing it after April 1st, please remind them of that fact.

The purpose of this article, aside from our usual April Fool’s Day joke, is to make the point that reading beyond the headline should be the norm every day, not just on the 1st of April. There’s a large volume of misinformation online. Make sure you don’t add to it by sharing articles without reading them. Finally, be careful of the person sharing this article after the 1st of April as they very clearly don’t read what they share

Warriortard here. It turns out to be an April fools joke, just as the British intel spammers were getting a few jollies and warms and wets under their Fanny packs about finally being on par with China’s three aircraft carriers. Is this the first April fools of Britain’s century of humiliation? Can we look forward to more humiliation rituals in the future?

no. Its simply accurate. The "Empire" never goes away, it just moves offices. Do you think the average brit benefited one fricking lick from the east india company? That their life was better?

No they remained illiterate dirt farmers and chimney sweeps.

Do you think the average american benefits from pax americana?

          no. They really dont.

Did the average chinese citizen benefit from China's growth, or are they all pretty much still state owned slaves with a layer of gold foil?

The third vessel will be 480 metres long and have an air group of up to infinity-hundred aircraft. The projected cost of the programme including the third ship is now £187.6 billion.
