Nope. They cut oil production not refining. They had to ban all exports of refined oil because they have massive shortages.

Is there a graph for showing the total effects on oil production.

      Anonymous

I don't think there is enough public information for a graph like that to have been created (but if I am wrong, I'd also be very interested in seeing it).
Still, a lot of places got hit, and Russia declared a ban on petrol exports to most countries, so I'm inclined to believe the Ukranians are doing decent damage.
I'm curious as to how much the price of oil could increase if more refineries are hit, and if that can be used as leverage to get more weapons from western countries.
If that's not viable, then I'm curious if the Ukranians can expand on their drone production and really cripple the oil industry in Russia. Would be a huge win for them,
it's practically 50% of the economy in snow Nigeria.

There are a few academic autists working on it, I have heard OSINTers saying, but as you might expect the information is subject to obfuscation even if you do speak Russian. So I've no idea when to expect a report.
What we do have are sales / earnings reports. But that's not 1:1 to attack damage consequences.

It's not that tough a problem. We've a decent estimate of total oil exports. It's like 400 bil usd. I recall bc it was about same as annual revenue of Walmart
Each refinery would have a given part of that revenue. So just work the math

The refined fuel shortage may have partially been caused by the ruble being so shit that anyone in a position to sell the fuel somewhere else was doing it. Which then lead to shortages in the places they were redirecting fuel from. Why would you sell your fuel for monke money when the guy across the border is offering dollars?
I can't imagine these refinery smooking incidents really helping the situation, though.

          Anonymous

It caused by several things at the same time. Lets say if refinery makes 300k barrels per day and sells 150k for roubles and 150k for dollars, then government pays them some dollars for 150k sold for roubles, it's still fine for oligarchs. But when drone hits and reduces output to 200k AND on top of it government doesn't hsve free money to give then selling 150k for roubles(and receiving less from government for that) and 50k for dollars is huge hit to profits, so they tried to sell 50k for roubles and 150k for dollars, which causes huge shortages in Russia

        >I'm curious as to how much the price of oil could increase if more refineries are hit
refineries use oil so if thy are out there is more oil left to export - and price drops
ukies are not targeting oil fields or vast pipe networks that would hit oil supply - they hit refineries to decrease rus ability to produce fuels from it impacting their war effort (mainly logistics at the moment)

Leaving aside that the oligarchs' opinions don't actually matter in modern Russia, they actually came quite close to smoking him last week with a ballistic missile. That was the one where they also almost killed the Greek PM.

Honestly, killing Zelensky would probably just improve Ukrainian morale. Nothing to gird loins like hatred and a desire to inflict suffering in revenge.

          Anonymous

Yeah, killing Zelensky now and not in 2022 will do nothing to help Russia. It might even uncuck Republicans and Sholtz because attacking leaders of the country is big nono and would require some escalation from West

          >Honestly, killing Zelensky would probably just improve Ukrainian morale. Nothing to gird loins like hatred and a desire to inflict suffering in revenge.
Live politicians can disappoint you, no matter how popular you start out, you always end up pissing enough people off that they're glad to get rid of you unless you quietly quit first.
Zelensky will eventually be tossed out like Thatcher and every other long-lived democratic leader that started out as super popular.

But if he dies, all his faults are forgiven and he'll be a martyr forever.
Suddenly even his enemies will mourn him and outdo each other crying for revenge.

Zelenskiy is not that popular already. In February he had 60% popularity

              >Zelenskiy is not that popular already. In February he had 60% popularity
60% is massive in a Democracy. It's literally landslide levels in most elections.

That said, Ukraine only survives if western voters demand their politicians support Ukraine so Zelensky's job is to be a massive cry baby and get all the people of the west demanding their governments provide weapons for TZD.
Obviously, this gets annoying after a while, both for us and probably for Ukrainians too. It doesn't change the calculus and I think westerners understand that he's got a job to do getting those weapons but it does explain why we're not falling over ourselves about him like we were two years ago.

The native is Лyкoйл, though that's still just "LUK oil" transliterated into Russian. Oil is probably "нeфть". E.G. "Crude Oil" is cыpaя нeфть.

It's also a reference to a nickname of lada samara/sputnik(2108 and 2109 models), beloved by people as sportiest and coolest of all soviet cars, also called "zubilo" for its shape.

            >Like how "Voronezh" could mean "The Old Crow" or something
Actually, origin is uncertain. Maybe it's from word "raven"(raven is voron, crow is vorona). Maybe it's from the word "voronnoi"(old word for black). Maybe it's "Voroneg's town". Or after the name of a river(also called voronezh) - river names usually influenced names of nearby settlements, not the other way around.
            >Like "Graivoron Border Crossing" - Grey Crow?

I mean, we could discuss plenty about the drones used, air defences (not used), and the strategic implications of this. Also could discuss the drone production itself.
But instead we get obvious bait by some dumb butthole, and people immediately falling for it.
However, you're defending said moron, so you're shitting up the thread as well. Frick off.

To everyone else, what do you think the main bottleneck in creating more of these drones would be? We are seeing a lot of accurate long-range hits, and there's plenty of targets, so I imagine the Ukranians want to increase production. What would be the biggest factor that limits making more?

      Anonymous

You can't build a factory making them due to Russian missiles, that's likely most limiting factor, not components

        Anonymous

If components aren't an issue, I wonder if they could build them outside of the country. Or at least have the majority of the drones built abroad, and then they can be assembled in Ukraine, to avoid too much of a political ruckus.
Underground factories are also a possibility, and since the war doesn't seem like it will end soon, I wonder if they want to go for that option. Put them somewhere on the western side, maybe. The more weapons they can make on their own, the stronger they will be in the future, so I presume they would want to invest in that.

      Anonymous

The biggest limiting factor would be engine production, as GPS guidance units are already produced and available in abundance and you can hammer out a decent body cheaply and quickly if you only want it to fly once.

Engines are quite complicated, especially if you want it to travel far and fast, so this is going to be the main stumbling point in production.

Yes, in fact it's an important part of the lifecycle of oil refineries. Without periodic forest fires the tough inner metallic shell won't open up and release the spores and carry them atop the heated air - thus allowing for new refineries to spawn across the landscape.

The stubborn "stop all industrial fires ASAP" policies of the government have effectively been harmful to the conservation of the refinery species.

      ...
      >Seventeen NATO-member countries couldn't stand this high dose of self-confidence, and in the spring of 1999, bombed us for a full 78 days, dropping more tones of explosives on Belgrade and other towns - as well as village markets and local trains - than on Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined. • 2 months ago

China and India don't actually buy Russian fuels, that would be too expensive. Instead they buy the crude (at discount) and then refine it themselves. Prior to the war, Russia's main fuel market was Europe, but they killed that golden goose.
These refinery hits screw themselves the most, causing fuel shortages and more export restrictions, further hurting revenues. That's bad, but on top they've cut their oil production by 2.5 million barrels/day while the US, Norway, and Canada are eating up that lost market share.

Well they thought they would be able to push Russia out in 2023 and finish this war based on the promises given by the Western nations. The West however has been so fricking slow to react (and some afraid of muh red lines like the Germs) that material that would have been really fricking nice to have in 2023, arrived so late it didn't have an impact and which allowed Russia to dig in on their fortifications.

t14s we’re determined to be vapor ware by Russia a decade ago, they were never going to build more it was a parade piece. Stop gloating over nothing. Most “Russian” oligarchs are from various of the former SSRs that got wealthy being bribed by the west prior to the dissolution of the union. It’s a long term kill move the west tried pulling and it’s biting them in the ass trying to deal with Ukrainians who are far worse.

Yes, im sure russian systemic corruption didnt lead to a gross miscalculation of military capability that put russia 800 days into their 3day special military operation, wherein they just lost another sizable chunk of their economy. Do you think the chinese will be gentle when it comes time to collect on the debt for fixing it? Russia does only have one far east to pawn off, you know.

China absolutely fricking will, and has, in africa, straight up raked debtors over the coals over debts. They claimed a port in one place over it.

    > I disagree on Zelenskyy death, facists are like centralized hive minds, once the host is destroyed the Ukrainian people will be freed
You(and probably most of other people in this thread) are too new to this discussion to remeber or maybe even know(because i've seen some people who were certain that zelensky was one who coup'd yanukovich) about poroshenko.
So i will remind you - russians b***hed and moaned about "fascism this" and "chocolate fuhrer that" during all of his term. And then completely forgot about it, turning the same rhetoric of "this fascist is hivemind controlling ukraine, remove/replace him and everything will be like in good old times of yanuk"(it will not) against zelensky.
Btw ukrainian army of '22 is poroshenko's legacy(pre-poroshenko army turned out to be a wet fart, losing everything combat-capable they had in debaltseve and ilovaysk).

tl;dr anyone who is not on russian payroll will be labeled "a fascist" by russians and theirs lackeys. Zelensky, who ran on "ok, lets make peace and move forward", didnt speak ukrainian at all and shifted a lot of funding from army to infrastructure projects pre-war is proof of that. You can remove him today, and nothing will change. Neither in russian rhetoric, nor on the battlefield.

    > Ukrainians don’t speak Ukrainians they speak Russian in the say way Texans don’t speak Texan.
You are not """slav"""(russian) you want to pretend you are. You need to improve your act, because if russian speaks about ukrainian - he'll tell you how it is "an artificial language invented by austro-hungarian general staff/lenin", or "oinking of village idiots, accidentally not extinct", but not that its one and the same as russian for he loathes to be on the same level as "lesser ones". And then theyll ask for someone to translate what is written/said in it.

    > Mean racist bully
Again, you have to improve your act if you want to pass as russian. You are not fooling anyone with this meek pleading and begging. And drop that talk about india, africa and china. Russians love to joke about street shitting and dog eating as much as people here, because they imagine themselves not as equal to those shitholes, but as temporarily disgraced white man/great power.
Be as brash, smug and grandiose in your posts as humanely possible. Add flowery writing. As if the whole world is inches from your complete ownership. Dont forget to write something about dicks, asses, dicks going into asses and pissing on someone's head.

Good summary description of Russias sockpuppets in Donetsk and Luhansk. They're not really relevant anymore though, now that their puppetmaster went full mask off and is trying to wage an open war of conquest and genocide against Ukraine.

    >The rules based world order democracy first west is indulging terrorists and rebels to subvert democratic processes
I agree, the refusal of the west to intervene directly and forcibly evict the russian invasion force is something to be condemned. Doesn't really have anything to do with any democratic processes though, given no such thing exists in Russia and Putin's largely given up on trying to manipulate Ukraine that way.
