Which seems like a pretty way to commit suicide.
I have posted on here before that I think the US has broken their comms and I am typically shouted down. It reminds me of how the nazis thought their codes were unbreakable and managed to rationalize every single disaster as being the result of some other cause. Meanwhile they might as well have been using cleartext for all of the difference it would have made.

Besides using baofengs, all their tanks, BMPs, APCs and other vehicles are also using soviet-era vintage comms which are completely unencrypted and can only communicate with infantry through those fixed open channels, not to mention the infantry lacking radios to communicate with those besides heavy soviet-era backpacks and the new, scarce handheld sets.

Comms are probably the singular worst thing soviets and russians were doing, period, especially since a big part of any military training is properly using them to be able to coordinate actions between units and crews effectively, and soviets had none of that, only petty theft, plunder and theatrics. The suicided murz's story for the last 10 years has been trying to unfrick this problem and failing due to russians being unwilling to address the problem even when directly pointed to it because it cuts into their corruption schemes and exposes the higher ups, not to mention requires changes of command and training to actually utilize these things. His blog is one sad story of him basically doing this on civilian donations and against the russian command and constantly b***hing about it on every corner fruitlessly.

I guess if you got hit by just a couple stray BBs in the chest or head area you would have massive internal bleeding but the entry/exit wounds would would be very small.

If it misses major blood vessels even huge wounds can bleed very little, with tiny 3mm puncture wounds even hits that would normally bleed can close up enough to keep the bleeding internal.
Gunshots tend to bleed a lot more because the hole is too big to close up and the bullet breaking up has much higher odds of hitting a major vessel.

Those dudes dropped like sacks of shit, instant death. Beats bleeding out while some tiktok zoomie asks for tips over drone footage after dropping a grenade on you. One moment you’re there, the next moment little tungsten balls have shredded your brain and body.

        Anonymous

        >instant death
        Not necessarily. Watch more carefully.

You get instant death if you're lucky enough to have tungsten pass through your brainstem. You bleed out "fairly quickly" if you're lucky and have a dozen or three tungsten pellets pass through your major organs and heart.

A fair percentage aren't so lucky, and get their bones shattered plus numerous punctures that bleed slowly. If the major organs get missed or nicked, they will spend a day or several alive while their body slowly fails from multiple trauma.

And, some will survive, with various chunks of their bodies removed due to tissue & bone damage that can't heal or be repaired.

However, you're correct in that if people are more or less directly under a tungsten thunderboomer, their chances of getting their brain mushed is pretty high. So some will die instantly or fairly quick. Not necessarily all.

        SEE:

        https://i.imgur.com/2bZA4XP.jpg

A miracle some survived. Must have been in the blind zone created by the missiles warhead. You only get large chunks of the proxy fuze and the guidance section in like a 3-5 meter circle directly under the missile.

People have been posting that there are two sizes, 1 mm and 3 mm diameter tungsten balls. See picrel to compare to shotgun shot sizes. It doesn't seem like a match, and there's another pic floating around of someone with the tungsten shot in their hand. I think the shot sizes are larger than 1 mm & 3 mm, but not by much (if so) and there are definitely two sizes, not more and not random sizes.

SEE: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tungsten for properties of tungsten, but basically it's harder than steel (and doped so it's slightly alloyed to make the raw tungsten even harder) and damned fricking dense, so when it travels at velocity it packs a hell of a punch. Due to the density plus velocity plus small size, it is designed to massively over-penetrate. It will punch a hole through a an I-beam or an engine block and still pass completely through a human body. Body armor doesn't stop it. You have now been pierced through bone, flesh, organs, brain, etc. It may be travelling as fast as 6000 to 7000 fps up close, or "only" 2000 fps at distance, or after passing through two or three other people near you.

Imagine a BB, travelling at 5000 fps, but it's almost three times as dense and at least twice as hard. If one of these passed through your body center mass you'd be having a frick-all hard day. Now imagine 20 or 50 of them passing through your body. Everywhere. Bones turned to meal, meat turned to paste.

Getting shot once with fmj .45 moving at 1200 fps is a blessing in comparison.

I think this really needs to be emphasized. Especially since barely anybody seems to be batting an eye about this being a Russian training ground in Ukraine that apparently exists within range of Ukie artillery. You'd ask questions if the bootcamp in Full Metal Jacket was in Vietnam, and Hartman and most of his recruits got splashed by Viet Cong artillery. But they're Russian, so this situation doesn't even raise an eyebrow.

I think there's a cultural gap. The social contract always exists but different cultures at different times want different things. Americans ostensibly like democracy and taxation with representation, to simplify radically. People don't inherently desire democracy though. That's taught, that's cultural.

From my understanding Russians are unhappy, sure, but what they want isn't really democracy or the changes less corruption would require. They just want Big Authoritarian Daddy to win. The social contract is that they suffer what they must and the tsar claims the world in their[Russia's] name. It's all worth it as long as they live in a great country. The lack of delivery on that is the issue.

The main difference between Navalny and Putin was that one of them had power and one didn't. Don't believe the handwringing about him being some democratic crusader, he was just another wannabe tsar who had to play nice with the West because he was less powerful than the actual tsar.

Nah. Young russians and the ones with means are opposed to this bullshit. Haven't over a million fled last year? I would bet most college educated russians would rather leave or stop this shitshow

              >I would bet most college educated russians would rather leave
Nah, something like 90% of Russians support the SMO. You don't get those numbers without majority support across basically every demographic.

                Anonymous

Problem with polls like that is smart Russians who don't support the war and are wealthy, have already left. And smart Russians who aren't wealthy are "smart enough" to say they support the war.

There are also Russians who support the war because it is "current thing" and "society" says they should support it, after all 90% of Russians support it, and 90% of my countrymen can't be wrong.
There are also Russians who know its probably bad but are so mind broken by propaganda that they think other nations are just as bad and their wars were as bad for them as the one in Ukraine is for Russia, so its ok for Russia to prosecute the war, and afterall, better the devil, you know

Polls can be very ureliable and may not reflect the true and private feelings of people on the ground. I bet if you somehow remove the pressure from "peers" or government, there would be a plurality of neutral answers

            Anonymous

There is no such thing as a social contract. Not only is it entirely manufactured to explain to plebs why they have to pay their taxes when all other reasons have fallen away, it is an internally inconsistant point of view.

I am convinced that russia won't see any real uprising or mutiny in the military because of this, no one is gonna rise up over democracy or freedom. And there's no proper strongman to act as a challenger now, at least that would get support from the public.

          >its not like they dont have access to this information.
They simply don't believe it. The thought of that even fraction of presented information is true causes such a severe cognitive dissonance in russians that their mind subconsciously refuses to believe it, and this concerns all of them, no matter if they personally support war or oppose it. It's just way too far of a picture from what even most opposition minded russians had in their mind, so absolute majority of them would think it's some kind of psyop, or at least partially a psyop, or at least this exact case is real but that's a one time occurrence made up to look like it's common so it's still a psyop. Essentially, they feel the same way as would you if someone tomorrow tried to gaslight you really hard into that USA is ruled by alien reptiloids.

          >They just want Big Authoritarian Daddy to win.
Not exactly. Their real core desire is to simply be left alone. All that normal russian wants is to get into his secluded rural shack where no one can reach him, especially government, and never leave until he runs out of vodka.
The rest is a job of propaganda to make him think that supporting this new and young 80yo totally not senile dictator is the way to achieve all his dreams! (it will work this time trust me bro)

He also would be raking in the money from Nordstream 2 and his arms exports wouldn't have been shown to be all garbage. Meanwhile Ukraine would continue to be poor with an under-equipped military and eternally cucked out of EU/NATO membership and US gas contracts by Crimea/Donbass. And speaking of NATO, Finland and Sweden wouldn't have joined either.

As I said in my post, it was an emotional response. People think Russians are like these ice cool rational chessmasters. but if you actually meet them you'll realise quickly they're highly sentimental and extremely emotional. Russia as a whole was -offended- by Euromaidan, in a very specific jilted boyfriend kind of way. The rejection provoked severe emotional pain and stress. This wasn't like Poland going to the EU, the Poles and the Russians had always hated each other. This was *Ukrainians*, who in the Russian mind are just like Russians, but not as good.
The only real strategic element in this is the idea that because Russians and Ukrainians are so close, culturally, linguistically, sociologically and ethnically that there was a perceived danger Russians might look at Ukrainians toppling their wannabe strongman homosexual and think to themselves "If they can do it, why can't we?". I'm convinced that something like that was playing on the minds of various Kremlin higher ups in the run up to seizing Crimea.

This is a fairly well-known dynamic. Hitler wanted to invade Switzerland for similar reasons, it's one of the main reasons China wants to invade Taiwan. They stand as living, undeniable proof that a group of people can achieve great success without the government/system that the other group has, which requires obvious, burdensome sacrifices to maintain. The Chicoms HATE HATE HATE that Taiwan is democratic, successful, and culturally Chinese. The same dynamic has played out numerous times throughout history, it's far deeper than 'grass is greener over there/I want my borders bigger' it's about conditioning the human mind about the realms of what is possible.

Nah, you don't need to go back to before WWI. You have Stalin literally allying Hitler and helping him dismantle the buffer between their two empires. Then he also purges all his officers right before deciding to invade Finland and has a disaster. This alone would be a grade A frick up but he refuses to build significant fortifications on his new acquisitions in Poland and the Baltics to avoid "antagonizing," Hitler and against all his generals orders forces a stand down right before Barbarossa. Oh, and he sells military aid to Germany until literally the day of the invasion, giving them iron, wood, and oil they are going to use to kill millions of his people. And he treats the Baltics so poorly that 70,000 partisans spring up instantly to attack the Red Army's rear and vastly more Ukrainians also serve the Germans, not because the Germans are acting diplomatically, but because Stalin has been terrorizing everyone.

I think that takes the cake. The only thing potentially more moronic was Hitler starting WWII and declaring war on the US, or Japan doing Pearl Harbor, both of which were cosmic scale frick ups.

Russia made a lot of sacrifices, yes, but at the same time the US population has had enough of wars, enough of Europe. NATO is basically finished, and the US is ready to hand the keys to Europe back to Russia. Most of Europe is going to lose its nuclear umbrella, and French and Bongs don't give a frick about what happens to Eastern Europe. Russia ended up paying a heavy price, but in 5 years we'll be back to the cold war spheres of influence.

I'm sick of pointless wars where we invade a nation that could never pose a meaningful threat to us.
I'm loving Ukraine and would love to see us drastically increase support because for once we are stopping an aggressor rather than being the aggressor.

          >enough of Europe
Why? What has been going on in Europe to stress relations?

          >NATO is basically finished
If Putin could have kept it in his pants another 10 years NATO would likely be dead, instead he waited until people started to question the point of NATO and then demonstrated the point of NATO only 2 years later. There is a whole generation that needs to die out before NATOs role is questioned again.

              >No more pointless wars
Agreed, defending a nation against a war of aggression isn't pointless and has huge geopolitical implications as letting Russia get away with it will lead to more land grabs and global destabilization.

        This.

Ordering the invasion makes perfect sense if he thought that was honestly going to take Ukraine for *free.*

He, and many others, thought that:
        > Ukraine's military was too corrupt/incompetent to make any meaningful resistance.
        > Any conflict would be over in 2 weeks.
        > The West/NATO would do literally nothing to help Ukraine and would not sanction Russia at all.
        > Russian forces would take minimal loses while being hailed as liberators by a significant portion of the population.

If you are a murderous dictator, then why *wouldn't* you want to invade Ukraine under these assumptions? Free land/resources for no cost.

      >He took Crimea for free FOR FREE
You're still not thinking monke enough. Here's the thing, In 2013, support for Russia was MASSIVE in Ukraine. Look at these fricking numbers.
Those upstart kids in Maidan were meaningless. A smart guy would have let it burn out, let them have a new Cool Guy(TM) leader and then gone to work on co-opting the next election cycle. What's 4 years? At that point, the situation in Ukraine was still salvageable with some canny polticking, especially in a country as corrupt as Ukraine.
But monke was personally insulted, as were all russians by the maidan kid's rejection of Russia. So he essentially went full monke to punish them.
I cannot stress enough that you all need to stop thinking of Putin as some kind of chessmaster before 2022. He was just as impulsive, greedy and stupid then as he is now. Crimea was a strategic disaster. It crashed the Russian economy. It put Europe on the road to rearmament. It reaffirmed NATO's purpose at a time when serious people were seriously starting to think it's purpose was done. It was a terrible mistake that Russia will pay for for the next 50 years most like and means that Ukraine and Russia will NEVER come to an accord over and genuine reintegration is now impossible.

Funny thing, it was salvageable even before it began. 2014 maidan was not this "street fighting, burning riot police, shooting and trying to ram the barricades with a btr" shitshow from the beginning.
It was boring, civilized picketing with posters and chanting, which was on its way out as people became tired of it after some time and only a few from initial protesters remained. But
then yanukovich decided to clean it up, and disperse those few remaining with force.
Then, the barricades and street fighting began. He could have done nothing, happily remain in the office to the end of his term, and be replaced by another putins pawn after election. But no, he had to show force.

My guess is that possibly they just want to have as many boots inside Ukraine on standby as possible, to the point where they finish training them near the front so that they can still throw bodies at any possible breakthrough.
Either that, or their standard training before getting deployed is so shit that frontline commanders have to retrain them when they come in (while also being prohibited from straying too far from their position)

It worked ONLY because of the lack of ammuntion, which was confirmed by soldiers. With enough artilery, avdiivka would surive another year until 1-ton bombs destroyed it.

Interesting. So they accumulate mass at the front by just dripping dudes in and telling them to wait until enough survivors are clustered together to form a barebones platoon, then advance while more dudes drip in behind them. Those tactics are just basic infiltration, except without much attempt at stealth (since drones will spot you no matter what) and more of a focus on trying to be unworthy of an artillery strike. I'd call it "drip infiltration".

What is the ballistic equivalent for each of those tungsten balls? .45 bullet? 5.56 round? 12ga slug? And what is the percussive impact from the explosive charge detonating? 5 hand grenades? Box mine? 1 stick TNT?

I believe it's something like picrel. There's like 182k of them in the warhead, some anon claimed that the balls have around 6-7k fps right after the explosion in the near proximity. It's probably very hard to even calculate this shit and sadly there's not a lot of info about these.

They walk out of the forest and are immediately struck with precision artillery. Obviously their location was compromised. How is the big question. Either bad comms or a spy. Anon above said they were using commercial gear and the US can crack that stuff instantly.

Why are training grounds in contested territory?

      Anonymous

      >Why are training grounds in contested territory?
That question is getting asked a lot. I'm beginning to toy with the idea that they can't use or don't have training grounds elsewhere. For some reason(s), other training grounds are unavailable, or not properly equipped/configured for whatever they're trying to do.

One plausible, simple answer is that they are shipping fresh meat waves directly to the front because they need to be deployed IMMEDIATELY to keep the meat wave pressure up. There's not enough time to ship them elsewhere, train them there, then ship them to the front. Smells like a desperation move, so little time to accomplish what is being planned that they're trying to save a few days by shipping them directly to the front and training them in place.

Also, the training is probably nothing more than two days of "Run exactly where we tell you to run, or get shot if you turn away or turn around." Saves another twelve days off the two week standard training.

      I'll add,
      > "contested territory"
monke probably has a very different idea of what "contested" means. We see it as obviously contested, but vatBlack folk think it isn't/ Or, is much less so than reality. It's probably not a single answer, but a combination of factors.

        Anonymous

Might have somthing to do with them pulling their training personnel into the meat grinder early into the war so now they want the survivors to do double duty training mobiks while being available on the frontlines.
