The scope isn't to shoot far, its to shoot small things at 50-150m. The HoB is a bit extreme because he has the iron sight on, but its nothing that a good zero won't fix.

        Anonymous

Yup. It's the only scope I had on hand it's just a basic hunting scope but it can go up to 9x magnification and nobody is going to shoot a .22 past 200M anyway.

Why the frick not I pick clays off with irons at 100 200 is easily achievable with a scoped 22 and a small adjustment

that's not correct. 200 yards/meters is pretty standard for sighting in a rifle. the mid range rise isn't much because the velocity is high so you aren't aiming very high at 200 above the line of sight so it's not a lot of difference. 200 meters is a fine sighting distance for a .22 LR

            Anonymous

You want to sight in a rifle a the range you intend to shoot,
There is no standard in hunting, other than the middle of the distance you expect to encounter game.
For deer, 200 is a good number.
For target shooting you want to sight in at the exact range the target is placed.

            Anonymous

The frick you talking about? the bullet drop for a .22 at 200 yards is about 4 feet.

      Anonymous

There are better tools to shoot past 150-200 meters than a .22 rifle anyway, you're getting about what you should expect from one.

I shot a pest raccoon square in the head with a 22 rifle from a couple yards
Smoke started coming from its mouth but it otherwise just looked angry, definitely not dead. So I walked closer and pretty much point blanked it in the head again.
Still not dead, but thrashing now.
Another shot to the body and it settled down and resigned itself to die a minute later.
So are .22 lr overhyped or do I have some sort of damage debuff on me?
      Like honestly?

and I blew one half apart with a 12 guage from about 4 meters and the bastard crawled into a bush 12 meters away and died, there were bone fragments and hair covered meat chunks scattered everywhere and a trail of coonblood.
Had to powerwash that stuff off the pavement. He dragged half of his intestines dangling a foot outside of his gut to where he died. Raccoons are just tough bastards.

The problem with the .22 at long ranges (just like the .223) is that the tiny bullet with low sectional density rapidly gives up velocity to air resistance, gets blown around by wind etc. That being said .22 is a great survival round. Everyone should have at least two .22 rifles and pistols.

22 is ok, just ok. Ammo can be finicky, highly anemic, unreliable at long range. The cartridge itself does not perform well through light barriers like glass or drywall. Just get 556 because that’s what literally everyone has, and there’s millions upon millions of rounds in circulation.

Trust me, my 10/22 came with high mounts, and shitty ones that came loose due to cycling of the bolt. I got new high quality low profile mounts and I can deliver 50 rounds through a 1 inch hole at 50 yds every day of the week on a bench rest. The new mounts have transverse locking bar on a rail so they never slip.

Bullets of any caliber in the right place will kill. It's just a matter of a.) how quickly they will kill and b.) where you put them.
.22lr is a dog shit cartridge for self defense because, unless you are putting a bullet right into some Black person's occiput from up close cartel style, there is just too much margin for error. Very high chance of an anemic bullet like that deviating or getting stuck upon hitting bone.
Either way, it won't kill or incapacitate in a useful amount of time, whereas the Black person magdumping you with literally anything slightly stronger will.

.22 rifle is nice, but you can get many of the benefits of a .22 rifle in a .22 handgun and then get a 5.56/308/7.62x39 rifle(thinking AR AK SKS etc) for big game hunting or man to man combat. quite frankly the AK should be the first and last stop for the majority of shtf applications

The thing is that buying an AK will get you on a gubarmint list for bad goys and if you use the rifle everybody will hear it making you a target. I agree that it's way more effective for combat.

.22 air rifle. Ammos even cheaper and it's quiet. Mine throws .22 out at 1300fps as fast as low grade .22 ammo.

I own a .22 airgun and I've shot a pig with it killed it instantly. Granted, it was point blank bc I didn't want to make the pig suffer but still. Having said that, the actual 22 lr still better but air guns are def a must have.

A 9mm is also a small round. I don't know much about guns but I used to shoot cans with a 22 as a kid and there's no way you can say with a straight face that the stopping power of a 7.62 or even a 5.56 round compared to a .22 doesn't matter.

          Anonymous

Stopping power is a myth and as far as statistics go all handgun rounds are pretty useless in sudden incapacitation. The number one thing for stopping a man in his tracks is shot placement you need to either destroy the brain or disable the support structures in the body like the spine or the hips. Fail to do that and the other guy will only stop through blood loss making him pass out.

22lr in carbine barrel are not joke, depending on load, regular supersonic or high speed 30 smth grains, they are in 32acp to 380acp power range, while in a pistol they are like half the power of a 32acp so like a 25acp, and from this the reputation of being toysh.

      This.
People underestimate .22 ballistics because all they know is .22 pistols. A .22 rifle is far more powerful. Its not anywhere near centerfire territory, but getting shot in the chest or in the head with a .22 rifle is going to ruin your day.

Yea it's all about speed and stopping power. Yea a 40 grain .22lr might not leave the body but it when though the chest and Hart so wtf does it matter.

correct. If you plan to resist against government forces, firearms won't do the job. Build some improvised explosives instead

I too love the long thick boot of big brother up my ass I hope they limit the rounds you can carry on those 22s to 5 and then just out right ban all semi autos

Bolt guns are usually a lot better for subsonic ammo or while using suppressors, in some cases reciprocation of the blowback action can be louder than the actual gun shot. Not to mention reliability.

              Anonymous

              >subsonic
I know the action can be quite load. I noticed the reciprocation can be quite loud when I shot this suppressed AR in .300blk from a friend. however you can buy clamp ons and they'll turn it into a bolt action. but that's only relevant if you wanna be an assassin
              >reliability
Can be a point but only if you don't take care of your guns/ain't have access to spare parts

                Anonymous

Sorry, by reliability I didn't mean the reliability of the gun itself. But how reliable it is with subsonic loadings. Practically every autoloader manufactured today is going to be more reliable with hypersonic ammunition. But a bolt gun doesn't care. It will be reliable with anything that feeds correctly (which depends on cartridge dimensions and projectile geometry, not velocity).

                Anonymous

Fair enough. Did you exp failure with autoloaders after prolonged usage? Sub sonic is quite rare here to begin with

Every 200 rounds or so we just spray CLP or ballistol into the actions and they keep running. I usually go thousands of rounds without cleaning the barrels, just field, strip wipe off the soot and grime then lubricate. Eventually leading builds up and it is a good idea to clean the barrel.

10/22s are pieces of shit- I own several .22 rifles including one of these. You can spend another $500 on them to make them reasonably accurate, but for the money you can buy much better .22 rifles. Give me a marlin 39a, and older remington, CZ, or savage bolt, even a Henry lever- they are all plenty capable of headshots on squirrels, or knocking over a silhouette target, a 10/22 is not.

Another tip for the 10/22 is to get the “enhanced” trigger from Ruger. Especially if you tend to jerk the trigger. It REALLY improved my shooting.

The stock trigger is a legit 10/10 for me.

My grandpa drunkenly shot his best friends wife in the head one night, when shooting stop signs back in 79’ and the .357 round followed her scalp line and never broke her skull. Just scalped her and my 8 year old mom had to tell her she was bleeding before she even knew she was shot. But they were all hammered.

Also, regular AF zogbots are still taught to shoot centre mass (and will be for basically ever), because the pelvic-leg conjunction is a lot smaller than a torse and constantly in motion. It's, in practice, a much harder target to hit consistently.

Interesting.. I was taught to aim for the lower torso when I was in the army. They said that if you shoot high as most people do you hit the gut and if you hit just right you shatter the hip and that's a soldier out of the fight for ever even if he survives. Granted I served as an Lt. the grunts are taught silouette/center mass

.22lr is indeed awesome but .17hm2 is only SLIGHLY more expensive than. 22lr but a bazillion times better performance wise, while still in the same niche as .22lr, but a bit longer range.

I fricking love .17hmr but it ends up exploding squirrels at a shorter range. .17hm2 ends up being way better for that.
But I end up using .17hmr on coons and foxes and fishers that try to hurt my moms cats.

True. .22 no good for self defense, but there probably isn’t a better overall survival weapon out there, just so long as you don’t live in bear and wolf country. For me though, it’s gotta be the .357 magnum. Get a nice Colt Python in .357 and some type of lever action rifle chambered in the same round, and you don’t ever have to worry about anything ever again.

What you guys don't get is how easy it is to suppress these things. At 75-100 yards you would NOT hear the shooter. You wouldn't even know what direction it came from, really. You would feel the unbearable sting in your stomach as you go down writhing in pain. They may be small and not pack enough kinetic energy for a sudden kill, but you can definitely make people take a wide berth around you.

It's model specific. You need to know the outer diameter of your barrel in order for it to fit properly. It's not the greatest design in the world and I freely admit it. The next one will have a slotted taper that'll accept a huge range of diameters and will secure with a hose clamp. But that's off in the future.

When people start panic buying though .22LR is one of the first calibers to go. I understand, since me and everyone I shoot with will each go through ~300rds of 22 on a range day. When people panic they stock up so they can keep practicing. .17HMR/HM2/WSM will all be some of the last calibers left on the shelf.

Guns are so accessible to Americans most of us take them for granted. It isn't until something scares us, like a potential gun ban, riots or a pandemic, that normies start stocking up. That extra stress disrupts the supply chain and ~~*hands*~~ begin to rub together intensely.
Retailers get fricked, since they're just the middle man and customers get angry when they show up and there is nothing for sale. So stores implement policies like '2 box limits', meaning a customer can only buy 2 boxes of ammo during a visit. Then, suddenly 22LR makes a lot of sense. 2x 500rd boxes of .22 versus 2x 50 rd boxes of 9mm, or 2x 20 rd boxes of 5.56? Suddenly if you like to shoot and want to keep shooting, .22LR makes a lot of sense.

    >The gunfight happened in the early morning hours of 17 August 2018. The location was 867 Bootlegger Lane in Yoakum, Texas. Yoakum is a small town in Texas, about halfway between San Antonio and Houston.
    >There was “bad blood” between Dakota Wayne Kirkman, 19, and Manuel Martinez III, 36. The men lived about 22 miles apart. Yoakum is in DeWitt County, Texas. Kirkman and his girlfriend lived in Hallettsville in Lavaca County, Texas.
    >Dakota did not want his live-in girlfriend to hang around Martinez and his wife. His girlfriend, Martinez, and Martinez’ wife were at Martinez’ house when Kirkman came to bring his girlfriend home. Kirkman arrived in his truck. He had a singleshot .22 rifle and one cartridge, loaded in the chamber.
    >Kirkman and Martinez got into a verbal altercation. The Sheriff reported that alcohol was involved.
    >The altercation escalated into a gunfight. Cartridge cases found at the scene indicated that Martinez fired 15 shots from an AR15 type rifle and 12 shots from a .40 caliber pistol.
Most of the action seems to have happened while Kirkman was in or around his truck. 13 bullet holes were found in the truck. 11 of the bullet holes were from .223 cartridges. Two of the bullet holes were from a .40 caliber pistol.
    >Kirkman is recorded as firing one shot from his single shot .22 caliber rifle. The shot struck Martinez in the chest, killing him.

Doesn't matter how much ammo you carry if you encounter one guy who can tank enough to kill you, even if you end up killing him.

      Anonymous

"Stopping power" isn't and never was real. It's not a quantifiable argument that matters in regards to ballistics.
You have TC (temporary cavitation), PC (permanent cavitation), penetration and mechanical destruction. All of those contribute to the actual lethality of a cartridge, and they are massively determined by velocity (80%), bullet construction and then caliber.

Noguns moron confirmed. “Scope too high” is a nonsensical argument that relies on fantasy. Learn physics/ballistics or gtfo.
      [...]
22 is ok, just ok. Ammo can be finicky, highly anemic, unreliable at long range. The cartridge itself does not perform well through light barriers like glass or drywall. Just get 556 because that’s what literally everyone has, and there’s millions upon millions of rounds in circulation.

But the scope IS blatantly too high. Will be impossible to get a good cheek weld on that rifle and, quite frankly, a scope that technical is completely useless for a .22lr that has a max effective range of 100 meters.

        Anonymous

interestingly enough the scope is perfectly aligned with my eye when I shoulder the rifle (I'm a big guys so maybe it won't be true for most people) and as I said earlier I was shooting the bottom of a soda can at 200M.

    >Penetrates most body armor
