How the FRICK did they do it?

Seems to be a pretty swampy area so likely not very easy for the Russians to do anything about with regular troops. Likely only accessible though the road going westwards from the bridge.

If they try use any armour from that side they're guaranteed to be hit via Kherson side ATGMs, alongside snipers, so it's difficult to assault even if they hold that side.

Here's a basic rule of thumb: if Ukes have been given the capability, they will fricking use it. If they have demonstrated an incidence of new capability, remember it, they're gonna do that shit again when it counts. If they have a nice boathouse on the left bank, well, they're all over the left bank. What are those defensive lines really like?

I explain: formally, the Ukrainians have a small foothold - they caught on an island of solid land in the floodplain of the river. They put a garrison there, supply boats and boats. In fact, the sense to them (except for propaganda) from this "bridgehead" is about zero. Because from it you can only step into the next floodplain swamp. therefore, it makes no sense for them to create a bridge or a ferry to the bridgehead - there is nowhere to move equipment from it. But the real serious landing - in order to create a real bridgehead - they, apparently, are preparing in another place. Or several.

From my understanding, the actual Russian lines are actually quite a distance away from the riverbank itself so that they don't come under direct fire from the Ukrainian side. That means the riverbank on their say is more of a grey zone that forces from either side enter at their own risk.

Ukies got a fleet of 50 speedboats which they could have used. Supposedly this beach head where they landed is surrounded by small streams and swamps making it a relatively easy position to defend. It's also within Ukie artillery range on the other side of the river. Could the Russians suicide storm it through the streams, swamps and artillery fire to push the Ukranians back across the river? Probably, but they would lose a lot of men doing so. Since the Ukies are just ferrying shit across the river with small speed boats right now there is no real threat of an actual offensive occurring from the position.

Look at googlemaps how the terrain looks there on the southern side of the Dniepr. Its over 3km of marshland before any solid ground. I dont see how it would even make sense for Russians to stage any defence there since any kind of meaningful offensive from there is pretty much impossible.
