Trai running isn't PrepHole. It's about athletic performance, not about enjoying the beauty of the natural world. Get thee gone Wrong board

I don't trail run at all but this is BS, these mofos run in hard places and it's a skill in itself to run difficult trails like that. Plus you can take in the wilderness on a deeper level when pumped up on a cardio high.

It's a good thread, if you don't like it hide it.
Anyone using "barefoot" shoes like picture related?
I'm interested in reading other people's routines too.

Honestly I prefer cushioning. That said if that sole is tough enough to protect you from sharp rocks and your feet are seasoned then maybe give it a try. The other day saw this guy racing barefoot on road lol.

I'm using Altra Lone Peak 7 and they are the best of both worlds

You get cushioning for running on trail+everything good about running in barefoot shoes

How are they for hiking with say a 15kg pack?

They’re fine, maybe. Lone Peaks trade comfort for durability and foot protection. They have a decent enough rock plate but very little toe protection (they might have changed that for the latest model). It’s the most popular shoe on the AT, but people only get about 400 miles out of them. I think it’s worth it and have been using them since the original clown shoe model. My base weight is rarely over 20lbs though.

When i hiked the AT. I got 1100 miles out of each pair of my altra lonepeak 5's. But im also 6'9" and my stride was twice the length of most people.

Salomons are have served me well in the past but I don't like the shitty 'speedlaces' they seem to be putting on everything these days.
Bought a pair of Saucony Endorphin Trails recently and they also seem alright, the sole is unnecessarily thick though. Haven't used them hard yet.

Those look like they have zero grip. Can't imagine they'd be any good at all on a muddy slope.

Mad people are actually going PrepHole rather than just daydreaming about it?
Frick off back to the underage morons and schizos in whatever "I'm homeless and living in the back of my car, help" thread you came from.

The pattern is deeper than it looks in picture though it isn't aggressive, the rubber is sticky.

Yeah unfortunately no one makes bf shoes for muddy conditions so you need to be careful. They’re the worst going down hill, I’ve fell on my arse a few times now but it’s a small price to pay imo. One day I’ll try glueing a cut up mtb tyre onto the bottom of them and see what happens.

Inov8 x talons are minimalist fell runners that are similar to barefoot shoes, I have a few pairs and they're my favourite for anything soft and muddy

Oh I like the look of those. I just use chinkshit ones for now. Currently nursing a bruise on the ball of my foot that i got from smashing my foot into a rock I didn’t see. That’s the only problem with bf shoes is that they can’t provide any help if you frick up your foot placement.

Just watched a video about the tor de geants. I need to get into these mountain marathons, they look mega.

Yeah I love barefoot shoes for feeling the texture of the ground but they get get very yucky in rooty terrain where your feet can get into holes between roots. Once your legs and feet are tired you basically have to stop too.

My colleague uses them but complains they are killer on any hard surfaces. Soft, muddy ground is good though
