Thinking man's tool, timeless design, natural wood handle, folds into a compact and secure form factor, shallow bevel makes for a precise and agile cutting edge
>bottom
Plebeian implement, plastic handle reminiscent of your mom's vibrator, blade too thick, bevel too steep, constantly falling out of sheath (also plastic)
I will accept no arguments to the contrary.
That's nice sweetie, but for me it's a tacticool SOG
Opinel for everday. Mora for innawoods. Personally, I would not trust the opinel for anything requiring too much force.
Looks like they've never been used. Cute funkopops, real fru-fru, designer handles with brand names and all.
Also odd subconscious slip about your other knife.
What's the tang on those anyway?
I actually spend a lot of time consciously thinking about your mom's vibrator.
The best knife is the one you have on you; convenience and form factor is important. If it's easy to throw in your pocket with the rest of your edc stuff then it'll get used. If it takes an extra step to wear or gets in the way at all, it'll sit in a drawer until you consciously think "today I'm specifically doing knife things" and attach it to yourself. You don't plan out specifically what tools you'll use for 95% of your daily activities, you just use whatever is at hand, and it's easy to have a folding knife at hand.
>convenience and form factor is important
I'm glad you agree with my EDC
stainless is annoying in this way.
i have a rat-1 that i've beaten the hell out of and it looks brand new. though, the scales do have some dents and scuffs if you look closely, but the blade itself is 10/10.
my used stainless opinels look brand new too.
What's the point of a folding knife? It's just a more brittle knife. In what kind of a PrepHole situation would the compact form factor not be negligible?
Moras are cheap and disposable. I totally understand using them in circumstances that'd pretty much destroy any knife or if you're homierdly or you just don't fancy paying more for a nicer product.
retvrn to the old ways, you silly little metalworking plebs.
I love a knife that break if I drop it. There's a reason indians universally adopted steel knives, arrowheads and spear points the second they became available thanks to white people.
no, I don't think I will
LMAO uhhh ok
>constantly falling out of sheath
stop parachuting upside down dumbass
One of these knives chips at wood pathetically, the other peels it like butter. Here's your (you).
Opinel was never designed for wood, the hardest thing it was made to cut was sausage
You can whittle with them, but the classic design isn't the best shape for that. I believe they make one specifically for wood carving now.
Are there any scandi grind pocket knives?
Tops MSF
I've got both of those, but they don't compare to this beauty.
>unironically flexxing a buck
Kek
they look like loveless knives next to opinels lol
(i have a mora as well, it's a beater i keep in the car door lol)
nugays
Lol you can even see the faulty heat treatment on the tip
Why are the bills so bright-colored? Is that some Monopoly money?
yes
The worst part is all that's worth about $42 USD
homie you have never used that once.
>constantly falling out of sheath (also plastic)
I unironically wear a mora everyday. And this never happens. Your other criticisms are matters of taste and application. So I won't argue on that.
But they stay in their sheath with great retention.
This fact alone makes me believe you don't know what you're talking about.
Anyone know if you can get a left handed mora knife sheath? I wear my gun on my right side.
Kansbol's sheath is ambidextrous, as is the number 1 and 2's.
Knife goes behind your holster
opinels fricking suck
i'd rather use some shitass swissarmy knife or the knife on a leatherman folder like that shitass homosexual frick moron ralston did to cut his own frickin arm off cause he was so fricking stupid
long story short opinels fricking suck
who hurt you?
Opinel is worse than chink $20 bugout clone change my mind
cant change stupid
I own both of those. Moira to cut wood and do some of the more difficult tasks, opinel to cut meat, bread, vegetables.
they're both great.
A Mora and an Opinel, absolutely GOAT combo
A saw, an axe and all your cutting tool needs are sorted
>that grind
Slop
The frick you talking about?
Scandoslop grind
It's only useful for wood and poor at everything else
Yep, it’s the quintessential grind for outdoorsmen.
But what about muh supersteel ceramic bearings and G10 scales with Ti thumb stud?
This is a bait/moron containment thread, the general knife thread is elsewhere.
i use both, opinel for food prep and mora for 'brushcraft'
>4 knife threads in the catalog already
Shame on you homosexual OP. A thread died for this low quality dogshit ragebait.
Damn guys it's all true! OP is gay and a cheap knife just flew into my Nintendo!
Can you really use olive oil to treat carbon blades or is that just bullshit?
It goes rancid after a while.
the actual utilitarian goat.
I own opinels, I own moras. but for the daily pocket, you really can't beat the modern utility razor blade knife. fight me.
>dedicated pop figure unboxing knife
Why would I be carrying a knife with me daily?
I prefer pic related
>slim profile allows you to put it in your back pocket and forget about it until you need it
>simple structure, hard to frick up
>maybe $1.50
Didn't include pic
I hate those things. The handle is too thin and hurts my hand whenever I’m trying to slice shit with some pressure
>tripgay
opinion discarded
Like anyone gives a frick what you hate, tripgay
I’ll save ya $2 if you never buy that POS. Don’t even pick one up for free. Spend $8 on an Olfa or NT Cutter.
its okay Bepster, i care about you opinion, just, not on cigerettes or LARPing with your "mothers cross"
Points for the Izula, but, come on man, have atleast a little self respect
>thinking those are comparable or suited for the same tasks
I know it's bait, but even the premise sucks.
opinels are the most homosexual ass trash homosexual frick knives out there lol
this post is the most homosexual ass trash homosexual frick post out there lol
and yet you responded to it lol, butthurt opinel shitass homosexual detected lmao
and yet you responded to it lol, butthurt bad post shitass homosexual detected lmao
No more brother wars.
Opinel mogs Mora forever.
Inox Opinel > Carbon Opinel.
I don't care what you say but wooden handle, carbon steel and hard to disassemble is not a good combo.
I don't take folding knives seriously. They're not tools, they're toys. Fun to flick open and shit. But I would never trust a folder with the same degree of confidence as I would a full tang. There's not a single criteria in which folders exceed fixed blades, so they're pointless to buy
>portability
moron
Bullshit argument cause folders are less portable. The need to fold, while making them shorter, also makes them bulkier, and the only place you can really carry a folding knife in is pockets. Meanwhile a fixed blade can be holstered in kydex and attached to any part of your body - shoes, belt, shoulder, worn as a neck knife
>less portable
False
>bulkier
By the width of the blade, which isn't much
>only pockets
False
>shoes, belt, shoulder, worn as a neck knife
You can carry a pocketknife all of those places
hey just out of curiosity did your mom drink during your pregnancy?
I had an opinel once. Got it slightly wet first time I used it, the wood swelled so that I couldn't close the thing, I threw it away and never gave them any thought ever again.
So what do you guys use your knives for? I go backpacking several times a year and I never needed more than my SAK for the occasional duct tape cut.
If you stay on trails, live entirely off rations, stick to a strict itinerary, and basically don't do anything except photograph scenic views, then yeah I guess you don't really need basic survival or bushcraft gear. Sounds pretty lame to me though.
Pretty much this. "backpackers" and "hikers" don't really need a knife for anything more than cutting open packages. If you're engaging with the outdoors in any meaningful manner (hunting, fishing, bushcraft etc.), your need for a bigger knife will make itself evident.
Yes, and then once you grow up you'll start carrying a hatchet instead and sell all your stupid rambow knives at the pawn shop
You use a hatchet to skin game and gut fish?
Yes, because the upper horn gives you an easy way to skin game without risking piercing the hide since it lacks a sharp point much like a specialized skinning knife. It also gives you a lot of control since you're choking up right under a very short edge. Knives suck for skinning and even for most carving.
>Yes, because
compulsive contrarians are so predictable
You're a moron.
Just stop.
I've probably been using hatchets since before you were born I suspect
you are too old for this website, boomer. go spend time with your family instead of arguing with kids online.
Skinning with hatchets is a traditional method mentioned repeatedly in historical literature for precisely the reasons I've explained. This is why so many old hatchets have upper horns that are filed flat and rounded off.
>So what do you guys use your knives for?
cut rope, cut wood, cut food, cut animals (food) cut whatever my heart desires
Moras are OK but getting too expensive for what they are. Opinels are too flimsy to be anything but picnic knives.
I'm still seeing the Companion for 15-20 dollars, which isn't bad, but if they go much higher it'll start to seem a little silly.
The companions and bushcraft models are stupid. They're not big enough to be any good for hard use so the extra thickness accomplishes nothing but making them harder to sharpen, not cut as well, and weigh more. The 511 basic is the best Mora and incidentally the cheapest too. It also has the best finger guard and ergonomics. It's the only "small fixed blade" I would ever buy. Though I prefer to just use a box cutter for 90% of shit and a hatchet for everything else.
I wondered why you were saying so much dumb shit but then I saw "box cutter" and now it all makes sense
There is nothing you can do with the thick Mora models that to can't do much easier with the thinner and cheaper ones. And there's very few things you can do with a knife in that size range that you can't do with a retractable utility knife and disposable razor blades.
There was even a Frost/Mora rep who said that they only made the thick ones to satisfy the American consumer demand. "Rambo-ized" Moras for fat dumb Amerifricks who are obsessed with battoning.
>thick
Are you homosexuals talking about the blade thickness? Because the Companion and the 511 are the same. Or do you mean the handle is too big for your hands?
No they're not moron the companion is 50% thicker. Much harder to sharpen and use with no tangible benefit, and the grip is not as good.
From the Mora website, the blade thickness of the 511 is 2mm. Fascinatingly, the thickness of the Companion is also 2mm. Feel free to tell me the company that makes the knives is also wrong.
Then they made a mistake. The companion is 3mm. I own both of these knives. Blade HQ records the correct thickness in their product specs, they do a good job with stuff like that. Knife and tool manufacturers having incorrect product specs on their sites is an issue that has frustrated me for 20 years. The difference between the 511 and the old school models and the companion and Bushcraft series is visible with the naked eye immediately.
>I own both of these knives
Then surely you won't mind posting pictures of your measurements
I have never posted a personal photo from my device on the Internet in my entire life. Just buy 511 and you'll see. They're like $10.
I have a comp and it's 2mm
My companion is just as thick as my Mora black Bushcraft and sucks. Got it a long time ago. Maybe they changed it or something.
I have 2 companions and four 511s
2mm all. It's a height difference not a thickness difference.
They're both the same, you're full of shit
>no I won't back up my claim
Unsurprising
>itt Europoors and their kiddie knives
the opinel is great for everyday use and fine carving work. The mora, however, is the choice of multiple world-class survival schools. I'm going to bet the only thing you use knives for are Amazon packages. Stop being a fricking virgin
