Looks like they've never been used. Cute funkopops, real fru-fru, designer handles with brand names and all.

Also odd subconscious slip about your other knife.

What's the tang on those anyway?

I actually spend a lot of time consciously thinking about your mom's vibrator.

What's the point of a folding knife? It's just a more brittle knife. In what kind of a PrepHole situation would the compact form factor not be negligible?
Moras are cheap and disposable. I totally understand using them in circumstances that'd pretty much destroy any knife or if you're homierdly or you just don't fancy paying more for a nicer product.

The best knife is the one you have on you; convenience and form factor is important. If it's easy to throw in your pocket with the rest of your edc stuff then it'll get used. If it takes an extra step to wear or gets in the way at all, it'll sit in a drawer until you consciously think "today I'm specifically doing knife things" and attach it to yourself. You don't plan out specifically what tools you'll use for 95% of your daily activities, you just use whatever is at hand, and it's easy to have a folding knife at hand.

stainless is annoying in this way.

i have a rat-1 that i've beaten the hell out of and it looks brand new. though, the scales do have some dents and scuffs if you look closely, but the blade itself is 10/10.

my used stainless opinels look brand new too.

I don't take folding knives seriously. They're not tools, they're toys. Fun to flick open and shit. But I would never trust a folder with the same degree of confidence as I would a full tang. There's not a single criteria in which folders exceed fixed blades, so they're pointless to buy

      Anonymous

      >portability
      moron

        Anonymous

Bullshit argument cause folders are less portable. The need to fold, while making them shorter, also makes them bulkier, and the only place you can really carry a folding knife in is pockets. Meanwhile a fixed blade can be holstered in kydex and attached to any part of your body - shoes, belt, shoulder, worn as a neck knife

          Anonymous

          >less portable
          False

By the width of the blade, which isn't much

      Anonymous

If you stay on trails, live entirely off rations, stick to a strict itinerary, and basically don't do anything except photograph scenic views, then yeah I guess you don't really need basic survival or bushcraft gear. Sounds pretty lame to me though.

        Anonymous

Pretty much this. "backpackers" and "hikers" don't really need a knife for anything more than cutting open packages. If you're engaging with the outdoors in any meaningful manner (hunting, fishing, bushcraft etc.), your need for a bigger knife will make itself evident.

              Anonymous

Yes, because the upper horn gives you an easy way to skin game without risking piercing the hide since it lacks a sharp point much like a specialized skinning knife. It also gives you a lot of control since you're choking up right under a very short edge. Knives suck for skinning and even for most carving.

Skinning with hatchets is a traditional method mentioned repeatedly in historical literature for precisely the reasons I've explained. This is why so many old hatchets have upper horns that are filed flat and rounded off.

I'm still seeing the Companion for 15-20 dollars, which isn't bad, but if they go much higher it'll start to seem a little silly.

The companions and bushcraft models are stupid. They're not big enough to be any good for hard use so the extra thickness accomplishes nothing but making them harder to sharpen, not cut as well, and weigh more. The 511 basic is the best Mora and incidentally the cheapest too. It also has the best finger guard and ergonomics. It's the only "small fixed blade" I would ever buy. Though I prefer to just use a box cutter for 90% of shit and a hatchet for everything else.

There is nothing you can do with the thick Mora models that to can't do much easier with the thinner and cheaper ones. And there's very few things you can do with a knife in that size range that you can't do with a retractable utility knife and disposable razor blades.

There was even a Frost/Mora rep who said that they only made the thick ones to satisfy the American consumer demand. "Rambo-ized" Moras for fat dumb Amerifricks who are obsessed with battoning.

        >thick
Are you homosexuals talking about the blade thickness? Because the Companion and the 511 are the same. Or do you mean the handle is too big for your hands?

          Anonymous

No they're not moron the companion is 50% thicker. Much harder to sharpen and use with no tangible benefit, and the grip is not as good.

            Anonymous

From the Mora website, the blade thickness of the 511 is 2mm. Fascinatingly, the thickness of the Companion is also 2mm. Feel free to tell me the company that makes the knives is also wrong.

              Anonymous

Then they made a mistake. The companion is 3mm. I own both of these knives. Blade HQ records the correct thickness in their product specs, they do a good job with stuff like that. Knife and tool manufacturers having incorrect product specs on their sites is an issue that has frustrated me for 20 years. The difference between the 511 and the old school models and the companion and Bushcraft series is visible with the naked eye immediately.
