Tobacco prices in the UK are getting out of hand (+100% in the last 10 years)
How the hell can i make my own tobacco or are there cheaper alteratives i dont know about?
some foreigners are selling really cheap "tobacco" but it tastes like shit and doesnt hit the same..
>How the hell can i make my own tobacco
Tobacco is pretty easy to grow here in the southern US but might be too cold/not sunny enough where you are. If you could put a greenhouse together you might be able to make it work. Not sure if it's legal where you're at though.
Turning the leaves into something smokeable is a challenge too, but doable for someone at home.
Oh, and as with most of this taxes stuff (and per OAI
) UK home grown tobacco is legal.
Much like brewing your own beer or stilling your own whiskey, it's when you start selling it that the government gets involved. Taxes, you know...
> Return flight to Spain €200
> 1kg of tobacco €160
> Hotel 3 nights €100
> Total €460 for €700 worth in tobacco plus 3 nights in spain
> Turning the leaves into something smokeable is a challenge too, but doable for someone at home.
This is kind of a stretch. Maybe you can make something like American spirit. Even if you manage to get the curing right (it’s an expensive process), the tobacco firms do steam expansion, add a load of preservative and flavouring, and have 24/7 temperature and humidity control until it’s bagged and sealed.
Apart from that growing it is pretty easy, and if you put a tobacco plant together with other plants it keeps pests away
Except for tobacco worms, but they're fun to pop, so...
>$1000/kg
What
the
frick
It’s like mid grade weed prices in the US. Guess it makes sense if they ever want the NHS to have a chance.
>have really israeli scene playing in my head
>remember 90% of that goes to the government in the from of taxes and lobbying
well half of it is tax and half of it is lobbying for less tax
>prices of products follow inflation
imagine my shock
LOL I can still buy pipe tobacco in 1kg bags for $20 in Georgia.
You can probably grow tobacco in UK, it will come down to varietal that works. Virginia is a nice all rounder for pipe and cigar. Burley is a bit harsher, more cigarette.
I briefly considered growing some in S FL and researched it. The issue is less growing, more what to do with it afterward. It has to be cured, which is time consuming, and ranges from hothouse to leaving it in a dry garage until done.
It's mostly bad-behavour taxes that come hand in glove with socialized medicine.
Bing
you can actually just buy untaxed whole leaf tabacco and cut it up yourself
Where? I've never seen this in usa and op is in UK.
Legit.
Every time I've looked into growing something, I find it's easier and cheaper to buy it from a real farmer.
>I find it's easier and cheaper to buy it from a real farmer.
this is true but if you grow your own sometimes the quality is better; tomatoes for example
>it's easier and cheaper to buy it from a real farmer
economy of scale
the raw produce is the cheapest unit in the whole processing chain, 90% of the energy that went into making that leave is from the sun
that looks great . can you just roll it and smoke ?
Easy to grow even in the uk, we used to have a lot of tobacco farms in Sweden. The painful part is curing them since you need to keep them at like 30-50c for weeks or months. There's boxes you can build or buy for that bit it's not cheap.
Quit smoking.
