The Smith and Wesson had issues with cartridge length and power, so had to use the 45 schofield rather than the 45 colt. From what I can find, the standard 45 colt load was reduced from 40 grains to 28, matching the schofield anyway, however.
I agree the gun was better due to the reloading advantages though.
The S&W was actually cheaper because the US Army surplused tons of them after they switched fully to the Colt. Personally I would prefer the Colt since it's both lighter and more powerful than the S&W.
That's literally the worst of all worlds. Pitifully slow reload and no strength.
You could've at least posted an 1858 Remington and argued for backup preloaded cylinders being faster to reload than either of OP's choices.
Colts are for flaccid boomers who were obsessed with The Lone Ranger, etc, when they were children. The S&W was for effeminate Yankee rich boys. THIS was the real fighting man's gun.
>Gay ass small pee pee gun
Come on now, come up with real competition
I have one of these. Accidentally stripped the finish off the cylinder while doing a rust removal.
White vinegar is surprisingly aggressive.
How do I go about restoring that sexy glossy black?

S&W was better in every way, yet Colt garden gnomeed everyone into buying his guns.

The break top makes far more sense as an actual gunslinger gun because you can break it and eject all cartridges with one small hand movement.
Gunslingers were poor as shit, they’d use the cheap colt SAA instead of the expensive superior model 3

>More powerful
I bet you shoot 45 ACP and claim it's better than 9mm too.
Neither

I do not understand how there are still people who think this was ever done.
they watched too many hollywood movies instead of paying attention during history class
Of course it was done. Why would it have not been done?
No, it wasn't. Do you think spare cylinders were readily available? Do you know how much that would run some poor as dirt frontiersman?
Poor as dirt frontiersman didn't use revolving pistols. I'm talking about the military which was the original point of these pistols.
>I'm talking the military
Cool, but the OP is about gunfighters and even in regards to the military, that also wasn't done with them.
people thinking parts and guns were as easily and cheaply obtainable 140 years ago as they are today.
It did happen but mostly with Colt's funnily enough. The Paterson was the only time that it was done by design as far as I'm aware.

big words from a replicaposter
I don't think you realise how hard it is to find a picture of SAA and S&W Model 3 together
I googled for whole two minutes and didn't find anything
>nogunz doesnt own guns so he has to use google images search
Oh no no no
>blocks your path

I have the case hardened Smokewagon. It's beautiful, but just not at all accurate.

>6 shots
>no surprise for the dirty bastard thinking he can rush you.
Colt if it's a .44 or .45. Smith and Wesson if it's a .32 or .38.
