you might be moronic because the bottom two missiles are clearly not inline with the missile pods, though the top two are uncertain. Modern Vehicle Health Monitoring systems means they would know about a gear failure.
There exists a universe where the US is equipped with Land Warrior, Steyr ACR's, XM25's, Comanche's, M8 Light tanks, Boxers instead of Strykers, MARPAT for all, F32's F23's, and a 140mm Abrams.
WAKE ME UP, WAKE ME UP INSIDE.
Attack helicopters are losing their edge IMO. A ground platform combined with a cheap recon drone can launch missiles with similar ranges and target options. Bayraktar style drones can do the same, and they have similar speeds and higher range and loitering times (they just can't stay stationary in place). Both are far cheaper. Competent enemies won't let helicopters in autocannon range stay alive either (every last combat unit needs AA autocannons in the future, just to deal with the drone threat). IMO the one thing helicopters can still do well is provide protective autocannon fire (against drones, maybe as CRAM) from above, with a better field of fire.
Helicopters can take off vertically, Bayraktars need an airbase.
They make good firefighters.
Say you are being attacked in force by a company of tanks on a thinly defended frontline, a helicopter can get there very quickly to blunt that attack and prevent your lines collapsing.
Ground vehicles meanwhile, might be no faster than the tanks in practice.
Ultimately you have to go down to first principles to understand the continued role of helicopters.
You cannot assume they are armored gunships and work from there.
Ultimately a helicopter is a vertical takeoff aircraft, that needs minimal ground infrastructure, has moderate range and moves much faster than any ground unit.
>Bayraktars need an airbase
I would guess they have a short starting distance and can be launched from highways. And they have a long range, can be launched from safe places far back. >a helicopter can get there very quickly to blunt that attack
So can a bayraktar. So can modern arty and ATGMs with ranges of 50km, or massed rocket artillery with ranges of 80km.
I'm not saying there's no niche for helicopters still... it's just getting smaller, and the remainder is getting occupied by far cheaper options. At some point it stops being worth the expense and maintenance.
it's a shame that it has to lose because the v-280 is going to win the upper portion of the program and the DoD won't let sikorsky-boeing eat shit like they deserve
yeah thats a helicopter alright
THE COMMANCHE NEVER DIES BAYBEEEEEE

head empty, moisturized, in my lane, vibing.
i bet the landing gear will fail on one during a mission and they will blow it off while trying to strike with a missile.

not inline with the gear*

"Why is the theme music to Airwolf playing in my head?"
Wrong intro music.
Man that was such a great early flight sim game. Even managed to get things like an osprey in it.
This intro sounds better
Superior Electronic Arts Intro Music for a Helicopter Game:
Same
Looks more "normal" from the side
it looks like a slightly tubby cross between a shark and a tuna
I kinda like it
a pregnant Comanche?
looks cool as hell, too bad it's going to be used to create a techno dystopia that will infringe on my rights

I'm sure taxpayers great great grandchildren will be paying for them for decades.

Give back the original, damnit.

I like it. For the most part I've liked what the Army has been doing for their modernization.
Yes that includes MPF.
I think it's neat. Kinda disappointed they ditched the ducted tail rotor and It's a little tubby but I still think it looks cool.
>they ditched the ducted tail rotor
meh
How fast can they be built and rebuilt/repaired?
>it's another "reformist demands everything be cheap shit so we can pump out 1,000,000 per day for a war that will never escalate to that point"

get back in the fricking box, Sprey. I'll fricking call a priest, don't make me
