If farmers actually got that much money they wouldn't be b***hing about getting so little government money.

I'm so fricking assmad that I pay 12% of my income to health insurance that I don't even have access to, and then my actual health insurance isn't even tax deductible.

Doing new things is hard, it takes work and requires a willingness to admit failures, be humble, and accept that this is part of the improvement process.

        Learn from it.

This is why the US has consistently dominated the aerospace field until recently, as our culture begins to dehomogonize with increased foreigners. By design, but not ours.

back then, stuff wasn't just less advanced but also a lot smaller. plus, people back then worked in factories rather than starbucks and pigs didn't demand as much of a markup to pay for yachts or whatever

      Anonymous

They couldn't really demand a markup, the government basically just told companies like International Harvester "You WILL make this many M1 garands at this price". Now, the price was always at a profit, but negotiation of contracts was very very much not in the companies' favor. That said there were tons of opportunities to scam off the top of ww2 money. Like in Alaska there was a bunch going to like Reindeer research justified as something something there are reindeer in Europe??

      >Why so low
Our only real competitor is China at this point. Vietnam we were spending like 11% of the GDP. After the Cold War we really downscaled spending.

Try to understand, WW2 bankrupted everyone except America. the Soviets were on famine footing until the early 50s. The UK was dick broke. France had been absolutely looted by the Nazis. Germany was split and two AND rebuilding. Japan was already rocky going into the war and it just got sad by the end. Even America wasn't in perfect shape, we were rationing into the 50s too, but we walked away real well compared to everyone else involved.

Two world wars basically bankrupted the empires of Europe and ensured that there was room for the USSR and USA to rise in their place. Had WW1 never happened we may be in a world where the Euro empires were still alive

Not that there also weren't contracts and bids even back then. But the rules and stuff for getting a contract were vastly different than today. Much more strong-arm price negotiation and fixing went on then.Even if you came up with some great tool or weapon of war there was a good chance Uncle Sam would pass out that blueprint to other companies to expedite the process of manufacturing, which is why you have Springfield M1s, IH M1s, etc.

WW2 US vehicles were generally lighter and cheaper than German ones
Nowadays US vehicles are some of the thoughest but also heavy and expensive
This can be attributed to most of their modern wars being small scale ''police actions'' rather than WW2 style total war
          >You don't need to spam vehicles that much; so you can make them better
          >Shithole insurgencies that keep dragging on don't generate the same popular support as ''stopping Japs and Nazis from taking over the world''; the treshold for ''acceptable losses'' is lower and morale at home is more important (So protecting the crew is more important).

They were developed after Vietnam; which already had the same issues with morale.

Which was 11 billion too much. Lend-Lease was a mistake. The American people allowed themselves to get tricked by Red Hollywood and by Stalin's agents in the Federal government.
