The original Galil is the worst AK variant. It's the heaviest and bulkiest of all, and the upturned charging handle negates any use of optics. It's a Valmet copy anyway not a direct AK copy, but boy did they frick up the design. The Galil Ace falls down the same pit. You don't put plastic on an AK. It's the worst modernized AK.
There's nothing at all wrong with using plastic magazine well and trigger pack.
The receiver itself is still steel. And you've saved weight and added corrosion resistance.
Not quite.
It still doesn't fully solve the issue of the top cover losing zero. Just using tight tolerances to be 'good enough for government work'.
If it was a more proper monolithic system or otherwise more properly locked the upper in place, it'd be a better gun.
THIS
Not to be confused with the shitty AK12
This is the true modernized AK, i'd only change the ugly uggboot wannabe stock for the AK12 one, otherwise this is perfect
Honestly I prefer the Gen 2, but I seem to be in the minority.
I want to pick one of the pistols up in 7.62, but I also wanna snag an AP5 while they're cheap.
Gen 2 is ugly and a downgrade so IWI can save money, since r*ddit homosexuals were just dremeling the plastic off their Gen 1 ACEs anyway. It doesn't even come with iron sights or lightening cuts.
>modernized ak
why do people keep trying to modernize something that cannot be modernized
just start with a new gun, this is like trying to make a 1920s ford model a compete with a modern car, it's just moronic as frick
The Robinson above did that.
The SIG 550 series did that, but its unfortunately unobtainium much of the time.
The FN FNC did it mostly, and its also unobtainium.
The M10x tried to do it, but failed because of shit build quality.
And now the Galil ACE tried it, to greater and lesser success depending on your view.
And there are a few others.
Bad luck really has been the great limiter.
Either the guns are impossible to get. Or they're bad.
The Galil ACE doesn't truly fix the top cover problem. But its a step.
If you can get your hands on one, the SIG 556 series is probably the best currently. Otherwise its the Robinson XCR most likely.
>Foregrip just floating below handguard >Accessory bracket ask precariously mounted as far forward as possible making the gun front-heavy >Optics on the side rail instead of on the dust cover, which holds zero by itself >No enhanced selector lever >Same old shitty pinned flash hider
T: bitter RK-62 user 🙁
Came here to post this. The final missing ingredient is spring loaded dust cover for the gap so shit can't get in. Then you have a modernized AK that is like an AR, but more aesthetic because proprietary shit is always more aesthetic.
>Lmao a fricking bracechump, have a nice day >”Better than AR ergonomics”, yet feels no better than an other modern piston competitor >Lost to the fricking SCAR, never forghetti >Initially offered with a horrendously stupid barrel system, >Can’t even be easily converted to select-fire to give it SOME justification for people to want it
XCR peasants never cease to amuse.
Why wouldn't an sit be able to convert it? The trigger mechanism iirc is m1 garand based which means it's similar to the AK.
Full auto is a meme anyway unless it's belt fed tbh senpai.
Robinson has not released any F/A components, and it has no “mil spec”, so it will be on the user to fab up the parts and figure out dimensions. Unlike, say, the superior SCAR, which requires no milling at all and merely a handful of parts which occasionally pop up online.
F/A is fantastically useful to have, and anyone who says otherwise is coping that they don’t have it, because they’re either too poor or too cowardly to do it themselves.
I wanted a modernized AK as my main rifle after playing R6S, BF4, and watching Resident Evil Damnation. Had to get the 12 because I always loved to use it in games. It fell out of vogue after those guntuber videos came out shitting on it (not to mention the Ukraine/Russia war breaking out), but I have no regrets and I like it.
>Handguards that are too skinny and do nothing for heat >Stock has an annoying shape and is too short >Lmao get rid of that stupid grip and get a FAB on there >Mediocre aftermarket >Mounting optics beyond a red dot over the dust cover or out on the handguard in a pain, compounded by the shit stock >Ugly and gangly looks with a muzzle device >Annoying recoil impulse due to the short stroke system (which is arguably bettter though)
It’s a pretty decent rifle for manlet conscripts who only use irons, or if you need a not-AK cope rifle. But the AK blows it out of the water overall.
outside of using two pieces of rubber like the Sig 556
The Robinson above did that.
The SIG 550 series did that, but its unfortunately unobtainium much of the time.

I don't think its much of an issue realistically.
You can add a grommet to it. Or change the safety.
But given that nations as picky with their guns as the Israelis and the Finns kept the hole and the same safety design, I don't imagine that in service even in the desert and snow and mud, its ever actually been a problem.
The Finns used and still use the Valmet.
Which is a milled receiver take on the AK. Complete with the same safety design.
The change they made was tightening the manufacturing tolerances on the top cover to allow mounting of a rear sight on it.
The Galil was based on the Valmet, and largely cloned its properties, rechambered in 5.56NATO.
It was dropped eventually because of cost of production for the M16, that the US was providing for free. Before that was replaced by the TAVOR.
The original Galil made it through testing and a few decades of service with the standard AK safety. And still is in use in South Africa in desert and bush conditions.
The ACE changed it largely to mimic Western standards of a Left Hand charging handle. But did add a shifting dust cover, to be fair.
Only the Israelis were dumb enough to have people constantly using magazines for the job to the point where building a bottle opener into their combat rifle was a good idea.
I hear the US M5 will have a built in deep fryer for similar convenience reasons.
Should AK's be modernized or is the original design still #1? I was thinking about a vertical foregrip, a holographic sight, and a laser pointer. Its a PSAK Moekov so its already a sidefolder with the collapsable stock and covered in M lock.
This. The AK-47 is literally the most ubiquitous and deadly firearm in the world. There's no point to owning anything else unless you just like collecting oddities.
soulless
too much soul for 2022. even 1970s israelites had more soul than the world does in 2022
this versions alright its the gen 2 with the ugly mlok rail that's """souless"""
Just because a gun is old and shitty, doesn't make it cool.
The original Galil is the worst AK variant. It's the heaviest and bulkiest of all, and the upturned charging handle negates any use of optics. The Galil is more SOVLFVL than the Ace, even if they're both in the running for Worst Girl (AK Edition)
There's nothing at all wrong with using plastic magazine well and trigger pack.

Old and wood furniture? SOVL
New and plastic furniture? Soulless
t. (You)
Yes.
>trigger slap on $1700 rifle

why do israelites hate lefties
because they're competition for the position of Satan's favorite children
at least satan loves me then
my Tavor is completely ambidextrous. israelites hate White people not lefties
Which Tavor model has a charging handle on both sides?
>why do israelites hate lefties
Hitler was a lefty.
How about you fix yourself instead of demanding guns cater to your disability?
>modernized AK
It cannot be modernized, it needs a new chassis without the top cover and probably an SVD style bolt
*blocks your path*
That thing is vaporware just like the one that was being designed by that Slovenian company.
Not quite.
It still doesn't fully solve the issue of the top cover losing zero. Just using tight tolerances to be 'good enough for government work'.
If it was a more proper monolithic system or otherwise more properly locked the upper in place, it'd be a better gun.
Wonder if the AKV 521 is any good? Seems to have a bunch of improvements over the standard AK formula that actually matter unlike the AK-12.
this at least conceptually is probably as far as the AK can go development wise
It goes for some of the original prototypes minus the bolt.
It's a really good start at improving the ak if it wants to keep pace with ar designs.
Hopefully the Serbs or someone copies it for the American market.
It does look pretty slick.
Only real hope is Armenia
And we are still waiting on AK103s and AK12s from them
It is but never ever worldwide (due to Ukraine situation).

Pretty much the state of AK MoDeRnIzAtIoN
yeah
The Kalashnikov action is the best ever developed for a shoulder rifle.
The method to the madness is finally putting it in a modern shell.
My dick action is the best ever developed for your mom.
Russians get the bullet.
there's no other gun that killed more russians than the AK
Adulthood is understanding the elegance and beauty of the Kalashnikov action.
Really been interested in the Robinson XCR.
Is /k/ so far gone that people will shit on the AK and anyone who likes it for being Russian? Everyone knows you don't belong here.
Yes. The Ukraine psyop has been shockingly effective, even among people who should know better.
The AK is german actually sweety
If it’s that good and so simple that all it needs is a new shell, why hasn’t anyone done that in 75 years?
The Robinson above did that.
The SIG 550 series did that, but its unfortunately unobtainium much of the time.

maybe the AK action is just cursed on account of being built on an ancient kulak burial ground
most guns did
now why has no other gun copied the AR DI system?
That looks disgustingly ugly

Here bro
Post the gun with a timestamp you subhuman Black person homosexual.
I love the galil the ultimate rifle that stands as symbolism for trans allies like myself
Wrong
>long stroke piston with AK bolt

XCR peasants never cease to amuse.
Pisses you off doesn’t it? Heh heh. Good!
I don’t get upset over peasants that make poor firearms-related decisions.
Then why post anything at all? I know you SAY it, but you sure don’t act it. Hahaha
You hide your seething with false laughter.

>XCR peasants
Delusional moron cope
>modernized AK
people like it because it's hard to break
what's the point of upgrading it when the upgrades will just make it easy to break?
wrong pic
The new AEK is so ugly, the stock looks awfully uncomfortable
i prefer the classic one
> we have HK at home
They discontinued it
>plastic receiver
Just get a VZ58, add ambi selector and bolt release. Modern AK, lighter and more accurate than that POS.
How is the rail about holding zero?
just get superior gun
Based beaver barf enjoyer, jackpot.
These would literally be perfect if they accepted AK mags and could accept optics over the bolt.
how is the vz superior
it just looks uglier
>Lighter
>Has a bolt release
>More accurate
It's better than the AK in every way
Besides reliability
>Handguards that are too skinny and do nothing for heat
>Stock has an annoying shape and is too short

It’s a pretty decent rifle for manlet conscripts who only use irons, or if you need a not-AK cope rifle. But the AK blows it out of the water overall.
>properly modernized AK
How tough would it be for aftermarket to address the AK's hole? Is it possible without redesigning the rifle?
outside of using two pieces of rubber like the Sig 556

I thought they were using the G3 and are now using the AR-10? And as for Israelis I thought the Galil did not have the hole period Pic related.
The Finns used and still use the Valmet.

galil gets away with it by having a sliding dust cover and left side charging
>Brace
yeah and?
It's not even free floated. I want to see Zastava M17s in the USA, let's see what 6.5 Grendel can really do in a rifle actually designed for it.
>Ar-15 style charging handle
>no bolt-release
Hell on earth
Quite possibly the ugliest rifle I've ever seen.
>not a sub-bullpup
FAIL
are these meprolight red dot sights any good?
what's to fix ?
The old polymer and triangle stocks don't fold properly when the side rail is in use, that is a design flaw IMO.
Should AK's be modernized or is the original design still #1? I was thinking about a vertical foregrip, a holographic sight, and a laser pointer. Its a PSAK Moekov so its already a sidefolder with the collapsable stock and covered in M lock.
As long as you can mount a modern optic on it, it is essentially "modernized." Anything else is just user preference.
Not really they fixed the gas block in the AK 100 series
I think that was mainly just for ease of manufacturing.
There's nothing cool about having a less capable firearm unless its specifically a collectors piece.
This. The AK-47 is literally the most ubiquitous and deadly firearm in the world. There's no point to owning anything else unless you just like collecting oddities.
